✿ BACKGROUND: Joelle grew up in Canada, with her parents ,who immigrated from Korea and her older brother, who was born in 1997 and lives in Seoul to study at uni. Her favorite subject in school has always been music and art. When she said she got accepted by SM Entertainment and would move to Korea, her parents weren’t happy. They wanted her to continue studying and finish school before doing anything else. But after talking them into it, they agreed. It was hard for them to let their baby go, but they knew she’d be happy.

✿ PERSONALITY: Joelle is very outgoing and extroverted. She always approaches new people first, sending them a warm smile. She’s super mischievous and she always pulls pranks. If you get on her nerves, you’ll probably wake up with edding all over your face and a comment from her, something along the lines of “you snore like a damn lumberjack, so I guess that beard fits you perfectly.”, she’ll then just walk away and giggle. Don’t mess with her or her friends, she’ll make sure to show you who’s the boss. If you hurt the ones close to her, she’ll never ever forgive you.
Joelle is unforgiving and always mouthes her opinion, which isn’t always a good thing. A lot of people already told her to calm down and to think about the stuff she says first before just randomly blurting them out. I guess you could say that she’s lacking a bit of empathy at some times. She doesn’t really understand how you can’t memorize a choreography that simple. She may snap easily as she is short-tempered and probably the most impatient person you’ll ever meet. But believe me, deep down Joelle is just a softie who wants to be loved and appreciated for who she is.

✿ HOW DID SHE BECOME A SM TRAINEE: SM Entertainment came to Toronto for an audition in 2015 and her friends tried to convince her to go. When she hesitated and said she didn’t want to, her friends practically dragged her there and forced her to perform. Luckily for her, she was raised bilingually and was always interested in the culture and language back home in Korea. But when she actually stood in front of the judges, her heart sunk to her feet. She tried to stay calm and perform a dance routine she had rehearsed many times before in a quiet dancing studio. She never even thought about dancing in front of people. When the music started, her confidence got a huge boost and she started dancing as if there was no tomorrow.

✿ STAGE PERSONA: Her stage presence is huge. Even the judges told her that at the audition. She seems shy and ordinary off stage, but once the music turns on, her character pulls a 180 degree change and she’s feeling herself. No one can hold her back on stage. She actually has stage fright, but she always manages to conceal it. If she tells anyone, they don’t believe her and tell her she’s born to be on stage.

✿ PRE-DEBUT ACTIVITIES: Joelle had a small role in EXO’s Lucky One MV as one of the nurses when she first joined SM, she also co-wrote NCT127’s ‘Paradise’. She was a backup dancer for Taemins MOVE MV.

✿ SCANDALS: It was rumored that Joelle was dating Mark from NCT, as they were seen together quite frequently. She, however, was just extremely comfortable around him because he was from Canada, just like her.
She was once spotted at a bar, supposedly drinking and smoking a cigarette. The rumor cleared pretty quickly, though, as the original girl from the taken pictures stepped forward and revealed the pictures to be her own.
She once yelled at a staff member of SM to “leave her babies alone”. Her babies being NCT DREAM. She got scolded by Mark and the staff, but she didn’t regret anything.
