  1. She ducked aside, feeling the sharp blade cleave hairs from her head. The force behind Jason’s swipe had unbalanced him; all his weight was leaning forwards. Reaching up with both hands, Halo grabbed the chain around his neck and swung him with all her might.

  3. He didn’t move. Regaining his balance, Jason looked down at Halo and prepared to deliver the coup de grace. Then, for no reason immediately apparent to her, he tumbled forward and disappeared into the shaft.

  5. Halo sat up, stunned, to see Tom and the sheriff standing there. “Teamwork,” said Tom, sharing a high-five with Claymark. “We shoved him in there good.”

  7. “Thanks,” said Halo, her eyes lingering on Tom’s for a second. “I was almost hamburger there.” With something approaching a smile, she picked herself up and peered down into the shaft’s gloom, as steeply as she dared.

  9. That was all she could see. Gloom.

  11. Tom and the sheriff joined her. Claymark’s face was still flushed. He still appeared traumatized by this indestructible being. “But will that kill him?”

  13. “I don’t have a clue,” said Halo, from over Tom’s shoulder. “But it should get him away from us for a while. Now we just need to—”

  15. The words evaporated in her mouth, as the rasp of metal on metal sounded. A series of heavy thumps and jolts followed. Jason Voorhees began to clamber back out of the elevator shaft with a series of hoarse grunts.
