  1. 1. Install the Dynasty Warriors 9 Trial on steam (https://store.steampowered.com/app/730310/DYNASTY_WARRIORS_9/), or get the clean steam files of the latest version of the base game if you're paranoid about getting banned (I recommend using a legit installation as a base so you can get updates automatically)
  2. 2. Place the contents of this archive (https://drive.google.com/open?id=10hZKZ0wbFb-FDwTpGUOaqv4QyMiC3CLW, includes full game unlock + all DLC as of 4/10/2019) into the DW9 folder (steam/steamapps/common/Dynasty Warriors 9, can also reach by clicking "browse local files" in steam properties for game)
  3. 3. (Optional) Configure SmartSteamEmu.ini if you'd like; I don't think any changes would be relevant for the case of DW9, but you can, for example, change the emulated SteamID from a randomly assigned one to your own, set username etc. If you want to have SmartSteamLoader_x64.exe outside of the game folder you can set "target" in the ini to the game folder, and move the SSE files out.
  4. 4. Launch the game using the SmartSteamLoader_x64.exe in the game folder (and set a shortcut to it if you'd like).
  5. IMPORTANT NOTE: SmartSteamEmu does NOT emulate Steam's controller api, which DW9 relies on for its controller support, so you CANNOT use proper controller support while using this method. I recommend using a controller remap tool such as DS4Windows for DS4 controllers or XPadder for Xbox controllers (I don't know if that's still the preferred option as I only use DS4) to create a profile for DW9 with the keys mapped to their appropriate controller buttons (with left stick mapped to wasd and right stick to mouse), as mapped in game (just make sure to set the menu keys to match with the button prompts used for the regular game, since they're bound seperately, and by default actions that have the same controller input have a different keyboard input)
  6. Credit to syahmixp on cs.rin.ru for SmartSteamEmu, UberPsyX for the life support plugin (I'm not sure if it's necessary but included it nonetheless), and huoyanak47 for telling us idiots in the thread to try using SSE after bemoaning CreamAPI not working for months
