- I went and rewatched Brotherhood for the thousandth time a month back. After the Jan. 6 capitol insurrection, I thought to myself: "Hey, wasn't there also a coup attempt in Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood? I should rewatch that series." It's still as good as ever. So fucking good.
- I don't quite remember how the idea of rearranging "Lullaby of Resembool" into a fancy little jazz trio jaunt came into my head. I know I've been wanting to get more creative with my shit, to start doing things besides just playing covers and arrangements of songs exactly how they were arranged to sound originally. I know I've been meaning to practice playing stuff in a jazzier style, practice comping with the left hand on the piano, practice improvising, practice soloing, all that stuff. And I've been listening to hours and hours of Bill Evans recently. He's my favorite jazz musician of all time. So I guess all of that stuff collided with the fact that I was rewatching Brotherhood at the time, and boom. There you have it. I'm not sure if this is how it went down, but it sounds plausible to me.
- Also, I'm playing a voice on the keyboard that isn't the default grand piano sound, in a surprising turn of events. This is the Acoustic Bass preset. I can't actually play bass, and even if I could, I don't own one, so we have to settle for this. I needed a bass to get the Bill Evans Trio instrumentation (piano, drum kit, acoustic bass) rounded out.
