- AGDQ 2024
- This was my 2nd GDQ since AGDQ 2019. Like last time, I submitted Crash 1 100% but it didn't get in. Oh well, it is nice to be able to enjoy the event with no stress about preparations for that. I'll submit it again the next time I go.
- Note: I get asked about also submitting any% quite frequently. I have no interest in showcasing any% as WhitePaaws' run from SGDQ2017 still holds up well - the biggest addition to the run is the new Sunset Vista game over skip (2019) and the newer god cycle for that (2022/23) but that isn't that marathon-safe anyway.
- I had am amazing time as expected! A large amount of friends and acquaintances went so I'm happy I was able to make it. The only negatives will be mentioned in the following paragraph.
- Biggest issue for me was getting good sleep. I believe the beds in our room were too small for two people and that combined with the fact that people tend to toss & turn in their sleep makes for a difficult experience. Hearing snoring wasn't much of an issue as I brought earplugs. I HIGHLY recommend others do the same. Next, this hotel sucked ass. Barely functional elevators, bathroom and showers having doors with "translucent but not translucent enough windows," broken locks, and some other inconveniences.
- With the negatives out of the way...
- When I went to GDQ19 most of my time was spent in the casual room. This time however I spent a lot of time hanging out with people in our hotel room. A big reason for this was our room being bigger than most as well as having a nice big TV that also supported PAL. This was fine by me
- - so many fun moments in our room :) it is also nice to not have to deal with as many random people outside my group as I am very shy with that kind of thing - or people FUCKING DAISY CHAINING POWER STRIPS LMFAO
- The food options in Downtown Pittsburgh near the hotel were fantastic. There were many options within walking distance and many more within short rides rideshare distance. I didn't get to try everything I'd have liked, but that's inevitable. Burgatory was one of my favourites - especially their shakes.
- On Thursday, I went to a natural history museum with some gamers. It was super fun and fascinating. Included was a large geology area with lots of stuff that in my head I thought wouldn't be interesting to me but was extremely fascinating. I took lots of photos during this trip and may put hem in a Google Drive at some point. Dinosaur fossils were of course my favourite - but only because the ancient Egypt area was closed off :^)
- We went to two retro game stores. These were cool but I felt a bit let down by some lack of variety and absurdly high prices for usually cheap loose games. Still, I picked up 1 NES cart, 2 SNES carts, and a backup analogless PS1 controller.
- Thanks everyone for being awesome and for all the laughs, talks, gaming, etc. There's too many people to shoutout, but you know who you are. Here's to next time.
