- In Pokemon Stadium, unlike any other Gen 1 iteration, has its own unique critical hit mechanics. This rework was designed to give Pokemon with lower Speed a higher chance for a critical hit, while those with higher Speed have their chance decreased. This brings the average critical hit rate, considering every Pokemon available, to around 14%. The formula for a given Pokemon's critical hit chance in Stadium is as follows; ((Base Speed + 76)*100)/1024. However, this cannot go above 99%, due to two factors: the 255/256 probability issue from RBY remains, and due to the way information is processed, all decimals during division are rounded down to the nearest whole number. Considering these variables, Bulbasaur's critical hit ratio will be 11%.

- Outside of this, critical hits will generally function the same; the level is doubled in damage calculation as usual, Transform keeps the original rate, and the damage formula will ignore any stat modifiers, including Reflect and Light Screen. The threshold value for a critical hit is multiplied by 8 for moves with a high critical hit ratio (eg. Slash), making the formula ((Base Speed + 76)*100)/128 when applied to Stadium. From this, Kingler's Crabhammer will reach the 99% cap for critical hits, for example. However, there is one very big, very notable difference between RBY and Stadium, and that's Focus Energy.

- When Stadium was released, unlike its predecessor, Focus Energy was fixed. This now changed the formula to ((Base Speed + 76)*236)/512, a gigantic leap in the critical hit rate. For example, Nidoking goes from a paltry 15% critical hit rate to a staggering 62%. A Pokemon that has used Focus Energy will almost always have a critical hit rate above 50%, which enables them to deal dizzying amounts of damage should the critical hit go off. In addition, when a Pokemon like Scyther stacks this with high-crit moves like Slash, they will always have a 99% critical hit rate. However, since these generally make the user hit the cap anyway, this is only really useful for LC Pokemon.

- The addition of a functional Focus Energy is huge for any Pokemon that gets it, enabling what's essentially an entire new kind of set. While inconsistent, it's essentially a Swords Dance and Amnesia in one in an ideal setting. For a scale of power, Primeape's Submission can OHKO Snorlax 17.9% of the time on a critical hit, ignoring Reflect to boot. Jolteon's Thunderbolt even becomes a guaranteed 2HKO if both land a critical hit! So long as these threats can get the opportunity to use the move, they become very immediate threats and could potentially pull off a sweep. This acts as solid counterplay to Reflect, especially when considering virtually all the users of Focus Energy are physical attackers.

-

- The following is a list of every possible critical hit probability in Stadium. Since moves like Transform, Mimic and Mirror Move allow the user to potentially use Focus Energy or a high-crit attack, I have not omitted anything. Pokemon that reach the maximum probability of 99% in a given instance have been marked in green.
