  1. Chapters 4 and 5 took unexpected turns. First, let me correct something. The pig Snowball is a representative of Trotsky. Thus Napoleon is a representative of Stalin.
  2.
  3. Chapter 4: Farmer Jones returned with reinforcements with the plan to take back his farm. However, the pigs were ready and launched their ambush. They successfully keep the farm. Here is where conflicting views about how the farm should be ran came up.

  5. I love history. It's the easy thing in the world to learn and retain because it repeats itself. I watched a documentary about Trotsky last night after reading chapters 4 and 5. I then understood why Snowball was Trotsky, not Stalin. Stalin was far smarter than people gave him credit for and he made it work for himself.
  6.
  7. Chapter 5: This made it clear that the two pigs had different ideas. Snowball wanted a country-wide revolution by spreading the word and encouraging other animals to follow suit on other farms. Napoleon wanted to focus on the farm. Arm each animal and teach them how to use guns. Also, he wanted them to focus on growing enough food to feed everyone through the winter. Snowball wanted to build a windmill to power tools which they had no knowledge of the usage. Snowball spent countless hours drawing up plans and figuring out how to wire everything.

  9. Trotsky wanted a worldwide revolution whereas Stalin wanted to focus on Russia. I agree they should have focused on their own country and bring things into the times they lived in. Everything under the Czar was backward and barely worked. The factories were two days from falling apart.
  10.
  11. During the usual Sunday meeting, Snowball made a very impassionate speech about why they need electricity. I agree animals need heating barn stalls in the winter. No argument here. Before the meeting was over Napoleon made a horrible squealing noise they'd never heard before. Then nine dogs which he'd raised in private came running full speed around the corner. The race was on. Would Snowball get away or not? He did barely escape with this tail attached.
