- Gagnon decided it was time to arm himself. He reached into his bag and removed a spherical device.
- “What’s that?” Tamar asked.
- “It contains a large, concentrated dose of cellular necrosis vaccine. We won’t be able to inject the Necromorph with a hypodermic, so I rigged this device to deliver the vaccine in a more, ah, primitive manner.”
- …
- He was so mesmerized by the Necromorph’s advance that he didn’t realize Brigette had thrown the vaccine deployment sphere—not until the device was in the air and hurtling toward the creature.
- If he had been aware of what Brigette was doing he might have attempted to stop her as well, but it was too late. The three of them watched as the sphere flew toward the Necromorph’s slavering mouth. The creature didn’t slow as it swept out an arm, intending to bat the sphere away. Before the Necromorph could strike the sphere, however, tiny nozzles emerged from its surface and emitted jets of liquid in all directions. Much of the vaccine missed the creature entirely, but a good portion went into its mouth, which was exactly what Gagnon had hoped would happen when he’d originated this plan.
- Even a concentrated dose like this would have no immediate effect on a human, but while the creature had been born from a human, and shared the man’s DNA, it was so much more than the sum of its parts.
- The Necromorph recoiled as the vaccine splashed its face, and instead of being knocked aside, the sphere struck the creature’s chest and bounced off. The creature stopped running and let out a high-pitched shriek as it clawed at its mouth, trying to clear away the vaccine.
- …
- The Necromorph’s exertions were lessening, and its lesions and pustules were once again becoming prominent. The creature was resisting the vaccine. He estimated they had only a few moments left to shock the Necromorph with the stunner, and—hopefully—render it unconscious. Or at least harmless enough to move back to the lab.
