The second that Lois was out of Metallo’s arms, Superman launched
himself at the cyborg with tremendous force, knocking him off his feet and
carrying him out of the park. Metallo pounded Superman’s back and head,
pummeling him over and over as they rushed through the air.
“Hey!” Green Lantern complained. “This is our rescue! Where does
Phantom of the Opera think he’s going?!”
Hawkgirl frowned. “Um, he looks nothing like the Phantom of the
Opera. Why would you call him that?”
“The cape, obviously,” Green Lantern answered.
“It’s red,” Hawkgirl pointed out.
“So?” Green Lantern asked.
“The Phantom of the Opera wears a black cape,” she said. “Not red.
And a half mask. That’s, like, his trademark.”
“Oh, were you there?” Green Lantern asked. “At the opera?”
Hawkgirl rolled her eyes.
Tearing through the air like a meteor, Superman held Metallo tight even
as the cyborg continued to punch him with punishing blows. They soon
reached the harbor. Spotting a construction site, Superman landed near a
pile of steel girders.
