  1. >be me, bonky
  2. >i'm with my pickle horse-man pal, pickle horse-man
  3. >although it's tough calling him a pal right now
  4. >because we're in the thick of the jungle
  5. >and we're lost
  6. >we're looking for a tree
  7. >and all the trees look the same
  8. >we keep sending each other pictures of tree we're looking for and comparing them
  9. >and sending photos of the jungle in front of us just in case the right tree is there in front of us
  10. >i'm getting dizzy
  11. >looking at jungle
  12. >and pictures of jungle
  13. >and jungle of jungle
  14. >when suddenly i hear a voice
  15. >"hey, you two! throw in the towel! look up!"
  16. >We both look up to see what the voice was talking about. We were shocked to see an egg with blazing eyes beaming painful radiation down at us from atop one of the trees.
  17. >We were about to run away but the voice spoke again.
  18. >"Do not worry, horse and horse-man-kind. I'm the guardian of this jungle, here to help you."
  19. >"your radiation is killing us!" we shout
  20. >"oh sorry. let me check my settings. okay. there."
  21. >we scream louder as our teeth shatter like a wine glass
  22. >"hold on."
  23. >blood shoots out of our eyes
  24. >"please hold."
  25. >my tongue turns into a liquid and i swallow it
  26. >"just a moment longer."
  27. >pickle horse-man has bloated into a huge bag of fluid with some pickle horse-man features floating around on top
  28. >"there!" the egg says
  29. >We both look up to see the egg had turned into a beautiful slick ribbons of energy, bound at the center like a sort of butterfly.
  30. >"thank you for your DNA and psychological profiles, suckers!" the butterfly shouts "sorry i mutated you not sorry, bye!"
  31. >and it flies away into outerspace
  32. >i try to scream
  33. >but no sound comes out
  34. >we just stand there in awe, our mouths gaping open, too stunned to move
  35. >we were lucky this is the worst of our fate
  36. >i roll pickle horse-man onward
  37. >we still have to find the tree
  38. >we're more careful though
  39. >we don't raise our voices
  40. >and most of our texts are factual and stripped of any negative connotations
  41. >and this peace that prevails between us
  42. >it starts drawing us to new and interesting places
  43. >places of wonder
  44. >of true beauty
  45. >histories of places gone
  46. >chiselled into stones the size of skyscrapers
  47. >we find graffiti
  48. >it's a picture of the egg that irradiated and mutated us
  49. >it's irradiating the word underneath it
  50. >the word read:
  51. > "NIMBY"
  52. >that's awesome.
  53. >i mean, i guess that punk's name is NIMBY
  54. >what a dick
  55. >the sky darkens and thunder roars in the horizon
  56. >or
  57. >it's the tree beneath us shaking
  58. >we ride out on a limb and look down
  59. >into the etheric blue fog
  60. >we see horror
  61. >far below us we see climbing neon tree-curse
  62. >it coils and creeps, serpentine and metallic
  63. >unfolding itself
  64. >it radiates a sickening warmth
  65. >i collapse
  66. >but pickle horse-man says
  67. >we have to try
  68. >pickle horse-man rolls up onto my back
  69. >he's wet and sticky
  70. >he grabs a big, sturdy leaf
  71. >i gallop off the branch
  72. >i leap
  73. >we sail through the air
  74. >bouyed by the occasional jet of warmth from some distant world below
  75. >into effervescent blue skies
  76. >past trees the size of planets
  77. >swooping and weaving
  78. >we don't know if we'll find our proper tree
  79. >we've lived as wanderers for so long
  80. >maybe this is our destiny
  81. >maybe it only feels like a curse
  82. >maybe our actions
  83. >and the things enacted upon us
  84. >all have bearing in some greater string theory
  85. >but for now i'm intent to glide
