Invasion, Part 14 - Making Friends with Enemies

  1. <DM> **LAST TIME ON ZURPG - Kokiri Edition**
  2. <DM> With Bruce Willis: Fran Edition on your tail, you sent Darte out as bait- I mean as a distraction while the rest of you took the Kokiri along the river path. Partway up, you decided you needed more help, so Melizea & Sephiroth split off to find and negotiate with the Deku Scrubs. Needless to say, they were a bunch of sleezy businessmen, and you decided not to press the matter with force, so you ended up heading back to the Kokiri.
  3. <DM> Meanwhile, Darte faced off against Fran.. and by that, I mean he died. Several times. His Pet Boss Baba intervened to help him out, but unfortunately, it succumbed to the overwhelming might of Michael Bay. In the end, Fran underwent a massive breakdown, and literally everything exploded, sending Darte team-rocketing into the sky as a crispy fillet.
  4. <DM> Back at the Kokiri, Mel and a Silver-haired Tower Shield reunited with the Kokiri at the river gap. While Mido was contemplating how to cross the gap, the One Winged Angel flew him over. Though, before he could do the same with the other 70ish Kokiri, a new foe appeared: Zolas. Melizea took one out with an iceberg, Titanic-style, but they reappeared with a frigin’ Pirate Ship, and a whole lot more Zolas.
  5. <DM> Also, Darte returned to your party in his usual fashion: falling as a corpe from the sky, and somehow flinging one of the ship’s turrets at you. Time to fight some pirates!

  8. <DM> *Gentlemen, swimming towards you, you see- that's the wrong term. Whatever.
  9. <Melizea> 15h, 6m | Ice Materia and Regeneration Shield Equipped | Wearing Hylian Mask | Force Meter: 25 pts
  10. <Melizea> (not sure if this is the start of another round or battle or something)
  11. <DM> *You see the ferocious pirate ship, helmed by at least 20 Zolas, though with enough space to helm 20 more easily. 50 more if they're small Kokiri fellas, assuming they're not cooked and eaten first.
  12. <Darte> (all I can picture now are the Moana coconut pirate things)
  13. <DM> *Weapons of all kind have been seared and forged into its sides, creating a sort of battle hull. At the front of the ship, there's a great skull with sharp, pointy Zola-like teeth, resembling a hungry piranha. Atop it, at its bow, seems to be a big ol' cannon, and you can see some sort of glowy generator on the deck, forming some sort of water barrier in front of the ship.
  14. <DM> *Lined across the sides are Clawshot Turrets, 5 on each side... well, 4 on one, thanks to Darte's entrance incidentally giving you one.
  15. * Darte gives a Terminator thumbs-up
  16. <DM> *Melizea and Silver-haired Tower Shield, you two see your old fish friend, as a crispy fillet, somehow give a thumbs up. It's... kinda disturbing. You're not sure you'd want to eat that afterall.
  17. * Melizea isn't disturbed in the slightest, considering it probably happens everyday anyway.
  18. <DM> *Anywho, in the waters surrounding the ship, there's about... oh, 20 more Zolas. So technically, you outnumber them, though keep in mind, half your Kokiri are either wounded or tending to the wounded.
  19. <DM> *How a boat of this size is managing to stay afloat in this river, especially given it's taking half the river width, you're not entirely sure, though you might guess it has something to do with that mystical purply lightning generator thingy.
  20. <DM> *Alongside you, Mido gets ready to- oh wait. He doesn't! He's on the other side of the gap!
  21. <DM> *He calls out to you all, loud as he can. Which is surprisingly loud for a pipsqueak like him..
  22. <DM> [Mido]: OOOOOOOI! GET ME BACK OVER THERE!
  23. <Melizea> (how wide is the gap again)
  24. <DM> *With him nicely separated from the rest of you all, you notice the ship aim one of its Clawshot Turrets at him.
  25. <DM> (About 100 feet)
  26. <DM> *Darte, with your thumbs-up willpower, you manage to return to life in your usual auto-revive fashion. Your fillet grows feet, stands up on its own, and reforms itself into a full-bodied Zora, albeit with crispy skin.
  27. <DM> *Annnd with the pirate ship entering range... let's do this!
  28. <Melizea> (so, uh, is it the start of a round or)

  35. <DM> *Alongside you, Saria tries to reform her magic, though she ends up falling to the ground.
  36. * Sephiroth augmentates his robe, and instantly casts Meteor, dubbing the pirate ship itself the target.
  37. <DM> [Saria]: Ugh. I can't quite aid you yet. I'll protect the wounded for now.
  38. <Darte> (I assume the fairy can take effect here?)
  39. <DM> (Fairy?)
  40. <Darte> (Sorry; standard fairy)
  41. <DM> (Ah. If you wanna fairy yourself, you can, I suppose.)
  42. <DM> *There's a rumble from the sky, though nothing drops just yet...
  43. <Melizea> "If we can somehow aim for that purple electrical generator, it may do something."
  44. <Melizea> (i forgot what meteor did again)
  45. <DM> *Saria falls back and starts casting barriers around the wounded. The other Kokiri, those under Mido's fighting force and are still able to fight, ready their swords.
  46. <Sephiroth> 37h, 25m | Nayru's Love: 100h | (Meteor (Round 3 Hit) - Pirate Ship) | Augmented Robes (Enemies lose 6 attack dice)
  47. <DM> *With Zolas manning every turret, they all fire the Clawshot Turrets at the Kokiri! Annnd all of them are downed a bit by a certain robe...
  48. <DM> *Guess that drops the Zola chance for landing this from 1d2 to 1d3...
  49. <DM> *Zolas = 2, Kokiri = Odds

  52. <DM> *The clawshot turrets find, but with this distance and Sephiroth's slowdown effect, the nimble Kokiri manage to evade the clawshots! The claws then quickly retract back towards the ship.
  53. * Darte 's filet-eyes open as a fairy pops from one of his bottles bobbing about in the river, reviving him.
  54. <DM> *From the waters, the Zolas there fire a collective burst of Boilblasts! Some of them target the Kokiri; some target you two, Melizea and Sephiroth! Roll Wisdom to defend!

  71. <DM> *And with those boilblasts ineffective against you two, the Kokiri find no issue whatsoever shielding against them.
  72. <DM> (uhh what are the Kokiri names again- screw it, using generic monikers)
  73. <DM> [Kokiri]: That all they got? Let's return the favor! Flash 'em, boys!
  74. <DM> .......
  75. <DM> okay lemme reword that
  76. <Darte> (...)
  77. <DM> [Kokiri]: Deku Nut 'em boy-

  81. <Melizea> (for once, it wasn't any of us that said any of this)
  82. * Darte thinks this attack is illegal in several countries.
  83. <Melizea> (it's even worse when you remember what kokiri kinda are)
  84. <DM> *Whelp, your uhh... ummm... small friends put their small bods to work and uhh.... fire a barrage of Deku Nuts at the opponent. With their slingshots.
  85. <DM> Kokiri = 1, Zolas = 2

  87. <Navi> DM: You flipped 1 coin. Result: Tails.
  88. <Melizea> (my turn has yet to happen, and i am still slow at this)
  89. <DM> *It seems their flashers are ineffective against the carnivorous might of these Zola Pirates. Their deku nuts fall short of the ship, flashing nothing but the grass.
  90. <DM> (Go nuts)
  91. <DM> .......
  92. <DM> (That was not meant to....... Excuse me)
  93. * DM jumps off a cliff.
  94. * Darte thinks it's time for Darte to kill DM for once.
  95. <Sephiroth> BREAKING NEWS: DM commits Seppuku, More at 10.
  96. <Melizea> (so are there multiple ships)
  97. * DM lifts the Darte up, Monty Python style, and uses Darte's seppuku skills to commit seppuku.
  98. <Darte> (Only the one, by the description)
  99. * DM drops the Darte back on the ground.
  100. <DM> wait, did I mention other ships at the end of last session?
  101. <Melizea> (that's why i was asking)
  102. <DM> (hmm, looks like I didn't)
  103. <DM> *Okay, there's just the one big ol' ship.
  104. * Darte quakes in invisible hand overload.
  105. <Darte> (Also uncertain from my end: do I get an action post-Fairy?)
  106. <DM> (ah, yes, go ahead)
  107. <Sephiroth> (If I recall, you were given an automatic free fairy to start off)
  108. * Melizea switches over to her Traveler's Cloak
  109. <Darte> (Ah. Don't know how I missed that. El derp)
  110. * DM returns Darte's fairy back to its bottle, full of life. Unless you want to devour its life.
  111. * Darte keeps the fairies, because he'll probably gosh-darn need them now.
  112. <DM> *Your fairy continues to await its eventual doom in your captivity. And by that, I mean its soon-to-be doom.
  113. * Darte chugs a Super Rejuvenation Potion, and appraises the situation briefly before slamming the Phantasm Spear into the deck of the ship. "Okay, what in Hyrule did you lot /DO/??"
  114. <Darte> Spirit Barrier:
  115. <Darte> COSTS: 7 Magic
  116. <Darte> DESCRIPTION: After feeding your Magic into this spear drive it into the ground, producing a barrier that protects you and all allies from negative status effects until it falls.
  117. <Darte> EFFECT: Roll Wisdom and summon a Spirit Barrier:
  118. <Darte> It has Hearts equal to half the result of your roll.
  119. <Darte> Whenever any ally would receive a Negative Bonus or a non-charge Status Effect, you can choose to have the barrier block it.
  120. <Melizea> (apparently i listed my shield being equipped before battle and now i didn't have it equipped... so uhhhh... it's equipped now as well)
  121. <Darte> Blocking Negative Bonus depletes Hearts equal to the amount of Negative Bonus blocked
  122. <Darte> Blocking a non-charge Status Effect depletes 5 Hearts
  123. <Darte> When the barrier falls to 0 Hearts, the barrier falls.

  133. <Melizea> (was gonna say that you didn't as well)
  134. <Darte> ("Stood up" implied at least on land, if not on ship)
  135. <Melizea> (and i am still trying to figure out my actions)

  137. <DM> (hmm... okay, let's do this then)
  138. <Sephiroth> (I was assuming on the riverside by the rest of the party)
  139. <DM> *Okay, you use your Phantasm Spear to apparently uhhh first literally dart yourself onto the ship (I have no idea how), and then apparently make a Spirit Barrier that somehow reaches between both you and your party, despite you being on the ship.
  140. <DM> *Let's just say you through the spear, grabbed ahold (what) and then me-doken'd onto the ship. Because that's what dead flying fish do!
  141. <Darte> (Oop. Misunderstood. Right, yes, riverside)
  142. <DM> *Melizea, got anything?
  143. <Darte> (Keep this low-complication)
  144. <DM> *Darte, up aboard the ship, the Zola are surprised to see you land, but... oddly they kinda just.. ignore you.
  145. <DM> *In front of you, there's the big ol' purply lightning generator orb. You can see several Zola next to it, using their shock resistance so they can touch the orb, and... do something, I guess.
  146. <DM> (Uhh, Melizea, you haven't done anything this round yet, have you?)
  147. <Melizea> (there's a lot to take in here yeah)
  148. * Melizea attempts to fire a Magic Missile at the generator.

  165. <DM> *You see the generator pulse as the Magic Missile impacts the barrier. One of the nearby Zola gets slightly shocked back, but is otherwise fine.

  181. <DM> *You notice the Water Barrier expands a moment, dipping into the river. The gaps in the barrier caused by the Magic Missile are reformed, restoring it to 100 Hearts.
  182. * Sephiroth pays his robe's augmentation upkeep.
  183. <Melizea> (or i could have used Guard... OH WELL AGAIN)
  184. <DM> *You also notice, from the cannon at its bow, lightning starts to spark and glow from within...
  185. <DM> *All the Zolas in the river, instead of boilblasting you, decide to cast Steamblade on themselves. They'd cast again, but a certain someone dropped their magic by 1 too much...
  186. <DM> *Those on the ship, they instead decide to focus all their port turrets at Mido!
  187. <DM> Zolas = Odds, Mido = 2
  188. <DM> $1d3
  189. <Navi> DM: You rolled 1 Die with 3 Sides. Result: 1.
  190. <DM> *Mido manages to dodge the first clawshot or so, but the third one catches the little fella and reels him in!
  191. <DM> *With him on the other side of the river, you find yourselves unable to assist him. Not without getting yourselves onto the boat...
  192. <DM> *Except Darte, who's already on the boat!
  193. * Sephiroth casts Steel Shadows and Shadow Speed on himself.
  194. <DM> *Darte, you see a loudmouth pipsqueak get pulled in by one of the turrets, then quickly locked inside of a net to restrain him. Towards the backside of the deck, you see a large uhhh.... boiling pot, where they toss Fran in. It's just filled with warm water... for now.
  195. <Sephiroth> 37h, 24m | Nayru's Love: 100h | (Meteor (Round 3 Hit) - Pirate Ship) | Augmented Robes (Enemies lose 6 attack dice) | +5 Power & Courage
  196. * Darte turns slowly about, striving not to draw attention to himself.
  197. <DM> *The remaining Zolas on the ship Steamblade themselves, drawing their tridents out. They end up not firing Clawshots this turn, as the boat continues to move further upstream.
  198. <DM> *The distance between you all and the Zola pirates shortens...
  199. * Darte reaches behind him for the Ice Rod, lashing it in front of him towards the Zola around the generator, and fires a Gale of Ice!
  200. <Darte> "Let's stop this thing!"
  201. * Sephiroth points out impending doom looming overhead.
  202. <DM> (when's the meteor hit, next round?)
  203. <Melizea> (should be)
  204. <Sephiroth> (Yep)
  205. <DM> *Roll it, Darte!
  206. <Darte> $47d10

  210. <DM> *Since the Zola doesn't have its trident out, it doesn't have a defensive bonus on this...

  213. <DM> *Your Gale of Ice strikes the Zola, knocking it away from the generator!
  214. <Darte> Damage: Halved
  215. <Darte> EFFECT 1: Target loses 3 Attack Dice & 5 Courage
  216. <Darte> EFFECT 2: This causes any Water and Water-affinity enemies to freeze around where the gale struck.
  217. <Darte> They also get Delayed:
  218. <Darte> Target’s next attack is delayed by 2 Turns, which then removes Delayed.
  219. <DM> *It ends up partially frozen next to the great pot.
  220. <Darte> (And any others near the generator / gale, if there are any)
  221. <DM> (ah, hit-all, right)
  222. <Darte> (Damages one, freezes many)
  223. <Darte> (I had to double-check the phrasing too)
  224. <DM> *Correction, you knock away all three Zolas around the generator, partially freezing them!
  225. <DM> *One of the Zolas manning the turrets turns towards you, surprised. It raises its Trident at it, then lowers its, cocking its head to the side. It then tries to... speak? Though it's more like a low hiss...
  226. <DM> [Zola]: You.... Zora.... Attack us... Why?
  227. <DM> *It points at its scales, then your scales.
  228. <DM> [Zola]: Us... The saaaaaaame...
  229. <DM> *Meanwhile, the Kokiri are preparing... ropes?
  230. <DM> (screw it, it's more fun to randomize names for em, let's do this)
  231. * Darte glares right back. "You assault my companions, and the people of the Forest. My people wouldn't stand for this barbarism."
  232. <DM> [Kilton]: Looks like our nuts didn't work. We'll have to ride 'em!
  233. <DM> [Jenkins]: Time to climb aboard. Just need to get a liiiiittle closer!
  234. <DM> *The Zola stares back at you, perplexed.
  235. <DM> [Zola]: Zola... need.... foooood...
  236. <DM> [Zola]: Not barbarity. Food. Surviiiiivaaaaal.
  237. <Melizea> "Knowing Sephiroth, I'd advise against going aboard."
  238. <DM> *From above, the sky rumbles once more. There's the dark clouds from the afar slowing expanding, but this rumble seems to be caused by... something else.
  239. * Darte points the Ice Rod downwards. "Then seek the bounty of the seas."
  240. <DM> [Zola]: Seas? No seas.... Only rockssssss.
  241. * Darte 's eyes narrow. "What?"
  242. <DM> [Zola]: Mad Lady... destroyed river. No river, no seas. Only Kokiri flesh! HUNGER!
  243. <Melizea> (yeah, don't really have much i could do aside from maybe giving myself a +5 to a random stat and awaiting inevitable doom)
  244. <Melizea> (meteorites anybody?)
  245. <DM> *There's a chorus of hissing and battle cries from those aboard, as they ready to tear the Kokiri limb from limb... though of course, they don't exactly know about the impending rock of doom.
  246. * Darte spins a Bioelectric Field around Mido. (Thorns)

  341. * Darte blinks, then turns. "Over here. We might have trouble."

  343. <DM> *The lone Zola starts to come around. It looks up at you, Darte, then sees the Kokiri hijacking its old ship. The fellow immediately turns violent, though it's still weakened by the lightning blast, and it ends up flopping on the ground, biting into the grass and spitting out dirt.

  345. * Darte points to the unconscious Zola. "Caught a couple words before that blasted Meteor hit. They said a Mad Lady blew up the rivers. They seemed... desperate, not aimless-- dangit, calm down." He sets a Red Potion down in front of the Zola, moving between it and the river.
  346. <DM> *The Zola gobbles down the red potion, glass and out. It recovers from its burn wounds, though it spits out some of the potion.

  355. * Melizea starts to fill them in on what transpired during the attempted negotiations.
  356. <DM> *You ramble on about some exposition, and of course, the only proper response....

  359. <Melizea> "We didn't take the Deku Scrubs on their offer since we were uncertain of many things."

  372. <DM> *It points at the ship's generator, which has gone... dormant, thanks to someone one-shotting the shield.
  373. <Melizea> "Tell you what, we were about to head over to the Keaton Fortress for negotiations."
  374. <DM> *The cannon that was also charging up has also stopped.
  375. * Darte frowns. "And she attacked a river to get it? Or to stop you from fleeing with it?"

  378. <Melizea> "Since the Deku Scrubs mentioned that Memphis went mad, and this fellow Zola also said she went mad..."
  379. <DM> *Mido, having listened in on the conversation, and powerhungry from his ship, decides to input a word or two.
  380. * Darte shakes his head. "Can barely make heads or fins of this. But safe to say there's a mad Keaton on the rampage?"
  381. <DM> [Mido]: Hey kids, I got a great idea. We got a nice new ship here, and this Memphis fella has some nasty weapons. Surely there's room aboard the ship for some weapons, eh fellas?
  382. <DM> *The Zola looks at Mido, and it just slowly shakes its head.

  389. <Melizea> "I'm afraid it's potentially far worse, if our other adventure is anything to go by."
  390. <DM> [Mido]: *sigh* Well, regardless of this Mad Lady, I say we stick to the original plan. Go up the river, get the Zoras. Not these knock-off tooth-aches. Who cares if this Keaton fella is wreckin' havoc round here? We're escapin' a war, fellas.

  392. <DM> [Mido]: Exactly, and now we got a big ol' boat to help 'em- wait what's wrong with the boat.

  394. * Darte frowns. "I'm not liking that thing he keeps saying: no river, no sea, no plains. Something horrible's happening."

  396. <DM> *One of the Kokiri calls back.
  397. <DM> [Porkins]: We plugged tha holes, it's still sinkin'!

  400. <DM> *Porkins flips Mido off and goes back to figuring something out.

  402. <DM> [Mido]: Well I'd certainly like to find a way to power it!
  403. <DM> [Mido]: Hey you, Zola fella, yer good with magical lightning orbs, aren'tcha? Do somethin' about it, will ya?
  404. <DM> *The Zola spits some glass shards out at Mido's face.

  406. <Melizea> "Perhaps we could use the ship to negotiate with the Keaton."
  407. <Melizea> "We may need all the help available for this war."
  408. * Darte sighs, and kneels in front of the Zola. "Look. Whatever's driving your people to hunger is probably going to drive ours to the same. If there's a war coming, the Zora should have backup supplies in store. We can make it stretch."
  409. <DM> *Mido removes a now-bleeding shard of glass from his face, using a Healing Beam to heal the wound. He turns towards you all, dusting himself off as if there was no glass in his face at all.

  411. <DM> *The Zola turns to the side for a moment, contemplating what you're saying.

  476. <Melizea> "Well, the issue is that we're attempting to ally with the Keaton as well."
  477. <Melizea> "Tell you what, if we encounter any enemies that you can eat, it's all yours."
  478. <DM> *The Zola gives you stern stare Melizea. It grips Darte's hand tighter, with surprising force. These fishbois got some muscle on 'em.
  479. <DM> [Zola]: Bring other meat, we eat. If no meat, then Keaton.
  480. <Melizea> "Any leftover meat will go to the Zola first."
  481. <DM> [Zola]: Good.
  482. <DM> *Zola let's go of your hand.

  484. * Darte looks to Mel, shrugging sheepishly. "Maybe coming back with a joint force of Zola could convince them to hand over some of their meat stores, instead."

  486. <DM> *Broken speech Yoda the Zola bids you adieu, then dives into the water, swimming downstream..... for all of about 5 seconds.
  487. <DM> *Suddenly, a fireball strikes the backside of the ship!

  489. <DM> *The Zola jumps back up out of the water and onto the riverbank, along with the other Zola, who have already returned! Or more accurately, are escaping....
  490. <DM> *From downriver, you can see a flurry of more fireballs coming towards the ship!

  492. <DM> *You don't see it, but you also hear the skittering of something arriving through the forest. A whole lot of something, too.

  494. <DM> *You see your new Zola friend quickly communicate to the other Zolas through a series of fast-talking hisses, faster than you can comprehend.
  495. <DM> *All of sudden, the group of them launches Boilblasts at the incoming Fireballs!
  496. <DM> *They collide before they're able to strike the ship, creating a giant wall of steam behind you all!

  507. * Darte hops towards the ship. "Mido, get everyone loaded up! If this works, hopefully it'll get us moving!"
  508. <DM> *Further past that, all the way on the other end of the river, way downstream, there's a group of Deku Babas launching fireballs. You reckon they're firing from a good half a mile away, and yet somehow, their fireballs aren't getting dropped by gravity.

  783. <DM> *In a flash, two bolts of lightning darte outwards from the turret, boring holes straight through through the foliage and striking the Gohmas directly in the eyes, right as their Cross Lasers go off! The lasers end up exploding directly into their own eyes, and with Darte's memories reminding him of a certain Eyegouger, the spirit of Dex himself teleports from Kirran's inventory and materializes over here!
  784. <DM> *He briefly cameos, snipes a pair of juicy Gohma eyes, then flashes back into Kirran's inventory.
  785. <Darte> (Pocket Dex? Pokedex?)
  786. <DM> (Pocket Glitchzard. But yes, that too.)

  788. <DM> *Time unpauses and the lightning bolts, combining with the Cross Lasers, explode inwards through the Gohmas from the inside out.
  789. <DM> *In the distance, you see a pair of explosions go off. Sephiroth, on the other hand, with tea in hand and a scope in the other, got to enjoy the nitty gritty details of two Gohmas being incinerated from the inside out, leaving charcoal legs to melt all over the forest ground.

  791. <DM> *Darte, before you're able to admire your new handiwork, it seems Mel miiiiiight have gone slightly overboard with the modifications. You try to let go of the turret, but suddennly it overloads inside of it, causing both you and the turret to spontaneously explode!
  792. <DM> *The rest of you down on the deck get covered in Darte guts. Except for the Silver-Haired teasipper. He gets to enjoy his tea.
  793. <Melizea> (wait i thought i was somewhere else?)
  794. <DM> [Mido]: ... figures. Darte just can't end a battle without dying now, can he...

  807. <DM> *You get over to rewiring the barrier, and after a few modifications, the barrier begins to reform.

  809. <DM> *Darte, you finally begin to reform. But before you can finish recombobulating all the way, the barrier's reformation gets stuck at 99% and-
