Betrayed by the Necromongers and left for dead on a remote planet, Riddick learns to adapt to the harsh environment and rediscover his predatory instincts. When a more deadly threat appears on the horizon, he is forced to activate an emergency beacon attracting two ships: one filled with mercenaries, and another captained by a man with a personal vendetta against Riddick.
The infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he&#39;s encountered. The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty. The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal. With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won&#39;t leave the planet without Riddick&#39;s head as their trophy.
Cut out the spaceships, laser guns, and the other trappings of any space opera and you will have the nuts and bolts of a great Conan story surpassing any true Conan film to date. The first half of the movie focuses on Riddick&#39;s softness of being too civilized by ascending to the throne of the Necromongers. This led to their ultimate betrayal leaving him near death and marooned on a savage planet. The later half of the film focuses on Riddick coming back to his noble savage ways and once again becoming the ultimate predator while being hunted by opposing groups of mercenaries. <br/><br/>Vin Diesel&#39;s performance is strong throughout the film, and it showed that even after all these years, he could slip back into the dark, menacing yet charismatic Riddick persona with ease. Katee Sackhoff, Starbuck from Battlestar Galactica, provided a powerful female rival as the mercenary Dahl, who was a great homage to another classic Conan character, Red Sonya. <br/><br/>The special effects of this movie were pretty standard with Vin Diesel interacting with plenty of CGI creatures, but the fighting choreography was top notch, reflecting plenty nods to Frank Frazetta&#39;s cover work for Conan. On the other hand, the musical score jarred against the flow of the movie with its slow, almost oppressively heavy metal beats.<br/><br/>Like any Conan tale, this story begins by Riddick losing both the girl and his horse, and by the end of it was able to win a new horse and the heart of a new woman, as they rode off together into the sunset.
Years after tangling with the deadly Necromongers, the infamous Riddick finds himself marooned on a desolate planet where the dangers are numerous and seemingly endless. With time running short and needing to escape from the hostile world, Riddick must lock horns with a rogue group of bounty hunters, as well as a highly skilled team of mercenaries in order to survive. The only question iswho can he really trust? An improvement over its immediate predecessor the film relies on a fairly straightforward approach with intense, violent action/effects sequences, but it&#39;s hampered by routine plotting, leaden pacing, generic characters, over-the-top acting, and some truly awful dialogue. Essentially a reworking of the original Pitch Black only not as good, though Diesel is game as always. **
The aliens are unscary and easily despatched, Vin’s too silent to be interesting, and the other characters – a gang of bounty hunters on Riddick’s trail – are either dull or offensive.
Riddick takes place in 2196, i.e. five years after the events of <a href="/title/tt0296572/">The Chronicles of Riddick (2004)</a> (2004), which was set five years after the events of <a href="/title/tt0134847/">Pitch Black (2000)</a> (2000), meaning that all three movies happen within a decade. She says, &quot;Let me ask you something, sweet-like...&quot; We&#39;re not told exactly what her question is but, based on Riddick&#39;s words from a previous scene, it is implied that she is asking him to have sex with her. Of course, she already told Santana that she doesn&#39;t &quot;fuck men&quot; but she may simply have been lying to Santana because she obviously despised him. No. Director David Twohy hinted prior to the theatrical release date that the home video releases could contain a longer version of the survival thriller. It was supposed to contain more of the mythology in the background. The movie&#39;s first cut clocked in at 2 hours and 20 minutes, a runtime that is unsuitable for most of today&#39;s cinema films. Twohy shortened it until it reached the desired 2-hour mark but promised to enrich the Unrated Extended Cut with some of that material. And that&#39;s what he did. While the theatrical version is quite short on the matter that Riddick left the Necromonger throne, the Extended Cut shows that for him staying on wasn&#39;t really a life-prolonging option. And the ending was also notably prepared for the theoretical possibility that a 4th film could transport the story in Chronicles of Riddick directions once again. It remains to be seen if that ever happens but in the meantime, fans of Riddick can raise their hopes a little more with the Extended Cut of the film that makes another adventure of their hero more plausible.  a5c7b9f00b
