Sample letter to Congress about FBI targeting

The news of Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) employees being targeted is alarming, not just for FBI employees, but for the country they swore an oath to protect. The Acting FBI director was ordered, via a Department of Justice (DOJ) memorandum, to provide a list of all FBI employees who worked on January 6 matters. These cases were lawfully investigated, at the direction of the DOJ, prosecuted by the DOJ, Federal Judges and Juries convicted subjects, some even pleading guilty, and now thousands of FBI employees literally fear their jobs and livelihoods are in jeopardy. Illegally targeting them sends a chilling warning from our own government to all employees in federal law enforcement: you shall not work investigations with ties to politics. The dedicated professionals in the FBI who worked on these cases have specialized skills and years of experience the public benefits from every day as they apply those skills to investigations protecting our country from foreign threats and violent criminals. The sudden and catastrophic loss of talent negatively impacts all Americans by weakening our FBI’s ability to carry out its mission. Even if new hires are authorized later, it takes years to gain skills and experience. This firing or demotion of employees based on involvement with a legal and authorized investigation is not only illegal and retaliatory, but it exposes our country to foreign adversaries jeopardizing national security. Now is the time to use your voice to stop the illegal retaliation, stand up for the FBI and its employees, and protect our country as you solemnly swore in your oath of office.
