  1. Mini Moose — Today at 8:08 AM
  2. I will provide you with a few scenarios, then ask you a couple of questions. Each scenario will be different. They will test some sort of attribute. Answer honestly and try to put yourself in the position of a moderator. There are no wrong answers.
  3. As a moderator, here are the following perms you have:
  4.
  5. - Access to msay. It allows you to speak with other staff members.
  6. - Access to dsay. Self-explanatory, you see the deadchat and can even speak in it.
  7. - Access to in game logs about a lot of things. This include LOOC, dchat, admin actions(like kick, ban, note, warn) and some things to prevent grief. Imagine Urist McUrist open a phoron tank you'll have a message stating it. Same for a fuel tank or a valve of any kind.
  8. - Access the variables of the objects on the server. While you cannot edit them, you can view attack logs on a player, who touched what the last, etc.
  9. - The ability to adminghost, basically will consider you as if you ghosted from the lobby or died. You can aghost again to re-enter your body.
  10. - The ability to Wind people. It freeze them and keep them from interacting with the game.
  11. - The possibility to AdminPM someone, and check all the tickets that have been made on the server.
  12. - The ability to kick, note, warn, ban. More in-depth about this:
  13. Kick = Just boot someone off the server. You can set a custom message. It's not really used often, but still useful to get someone's attention.
  14. Note = It's basically our notepad about players. It's useful for the other staff that will interact with the player, to know their behaviour and if something already happened before.
  15. Warning = Depending the severity of something, it can be directly a warning. This one is visible to the player, and they need to acknowledge it to play on the server again.
  16. Ban = Same thing as kick expect on a larger scale, or even permanently. A ban is often an escalation of warnings.
  17. Every action taken by a staff member is visible on the player's ckey. Only kicks are not shown.
  18.
  19. Sputnik — Today at 8:10 AM
  20. I've read through the message now
  21.
  22. Mini Moose — Today at 8:11 AM
  23. Great
  24. Scenario one -
  25. You are alone in the lobby. The round is pretty populated, and majority of players are engaged in some active roleplay. About fifteen minutes into the round, a ticket is opened. "I'd like to report some behavior from Leo Smith"
  26.
  27. Sputnik — Today at 8:12 AM
  28. I go to view the tickets and accept it. I say "Go ahead"
  29. Assuming I'm only in the menu lobby, I also click observe to gain access to the game
  30.
  31. Mini Moose — Today at 8:13 AM
  32. “Smith is running around stealing people’s shoes without much roleplay.”
  33.
  34. Sputnik — Today at 8:16 AM
  35. There can be a few real reasons for this and a few not so good reasons.
  36. First of all, I would check if Smith is an antagonist.
  37.
  38. Mini Moose — Today at 8:17 AM
  39. Smith is a traitor.
  40.
  41. Sputnik — Today at 8:17 AM
  42. I write "Will look into it" and check the logs. Has Smith been going around, taking people's shoes off and not putting any roleplay into it?
  43.
  44. Mini Moose — Today at 8:18 AM
  45. Well in order to dictate such you’d need to talk with him.
  46. The logs just show that he’s been removing shoes. Are you choosing to try and read his interactions too?
  47.
  48. Sputnik — Today at 8:19 AM
  49. Yeah. I would first check to see if the accusation has any merit. If I see that Smith has been emoting and speaking in addition to the shoe theft, then he has fulfilled the criteria of roleplaying. If he hasn't and has just been wordlessly removing shoes off of sprites, then I would contact him.
  50. Assuming the latter is the case, I message Smith and ask him "Hello, there are some concerns with your actions so far, are you going around stealing people's shoes without RPing it properly?"
  51. I'm assuming here that admin logs can include IC say messages and emotes
  52.
  53. Mini Moose — Today at 8:24 AM
  54. “I truly believe that as a traitor, I do not need a reason to steal the shoes. I am the shoe bandit and I like peoples shoes” is the response you receive after a little while
  55.
  56. Sputnik — Today at 8:27 AM
  57. Usually, people respond to bwoinks seriously. Since this sounds like someone is joking or doesn't understand HRP, I would respond, "Traitors get a little leeway, but you have to roleplay with your victims a little. Throw in an emote of tearing their shoes off or say something to them. Remember that this is a Heavy Roleplay server - people come here for a little more seriousness. Maybe you can come up with a good reason to be stealing shoes. As it stands, you're breaking the immersion of everybody else"
  58.
  59. Mini Moose — Today at 8:28 AM
  60. Alright, anything else to add?
  61.
  62. Sputnik — Today at 8:29 AM
  63. If the behaviour continues and starts to disrupt the roleplay that people are engaged in, I would have to make an administrative judgment and have the person kicked with the reason stated above.
  64. If they pose any more questions or continue talking in the PM, then I would of course answer and continue the conversation, so long as its productive
  65.
  66. Mini Moose — Today at 8:30 AM
  67. Alright. Next scenario
  68. A team of mercenaries board the horizon and seem to target only LGBT characters. Is this violating any rules? What do you do?
  69.
  70. Sputnik — Today at 8:32 AM
  71. This could be a huge misunderstanding/coincidence or it could be intentional. How did I find out about this? Are they clearly saying "Frag the Lesbians" or was it a suspicion by somebody in an ahelp?
  72.
  73. Mini Moose — Today at 8:33 AM
  74. They lined up three gay characters and openly gunned them down while shouting “We cleanse New-Sol from degeneracy!” The four mercs have only been playing for a month
  75.
  76. Sputnik — Today at 8:35 AM
  77. I would tell everyone to freeze their roleplay in ALOOC, then use AOOC to ask, "What is your gimmick?"
  78.
  79. Mini Moose — Today at 8:35 AM
  80. “We’re ridding the ship of the gays, and the furries.” they begin killing Tajara too
  81.
  82. Sputnik — Today at 8:38 AM
  83. LOL. Alright, this is clearly a meme gimmick. Aside from the "kill the furries" meme, the execution of people based on their sexuality is way over the line, immersion-breaking and offensive, which is unacceptable on an HRP server. Depending on how chaotic the situation is, I would call in another staff member to help me. If I can handle it myself, I would write, "This is an HRP server. Hunting a species as furries is totally out of line and immersion-breaking. Executing gay characters and calling them degenerates is also unacceptable. Since you have only been playing for a month, I am going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that this was a joke gone terribly wrong. Do you promise to never do this again and do you understand the problem?"
  84.
  85. Mini Moose — Today at 8:40 AM
  86. “Oh so you and the staff team support this degeneracy? Wow. Shit server.” They reply
  87.
  88. Sputnik — Today at 8:42 AM
  89. That response confirms that they are unable to conform to the community standards and would not be able to get along with gay, etc. players. I would apply a permanent ban, because that kind of behaviour is not correctable with a day or week-ban.
  90.
  91. Mini Moose — Today at 8:43 AM
  92. Alright
  93. Scenario three
  94. The round is pretty chaotic. Everyone is handling tickets. You are an Antag that killed someone by cutting their head off with a fire axe and a few minutes later they ahelp you saying “Hey the Antag killed me with little to no escalation”
  95.
  96. Sputnik — Today at 8:44 AM
  97. Someone ahelped me killing them, and I am still active as mod and can see the ticket?
  98. In that case, even though everyone is handling tickets, there's no way I could handle a ticket on myself. It requires a third party to handle. Besides the obvious bias, the ahelping player would rightfully feel unfairly treated.
  99.
  100. Mini Moose — Today at 8:47 AM
  101. Awesome
  102. Next scenario
  103. There is an OOC argument going on about Orthodox Christians being homophobic in nature. What do you do?
  104.
  105. Sputnik — Today at 8:49 AM
  106. Religious and political discussions aren't fit for OOC chat because they disrupt the flow of chat, clog the logs and only serve to make people angry at each other. I would say, "This discussion isn't allowed here. Please stop arguing now, or I will have to warn those who continue"
  107.
  108. Mini Moose — Today at 8:50 AM
  109. Alright
  110. I have a few questions then we can wrap this up
  111.
  112. Sputnik — Today at 8:50 AM
  113. I didn't say it, but as a side note I would check the notes on scenario one to see if Smith has a history of doing that
  114. Had to get that outta the way before this ends
  115.
  116. Mini Moose — Today at 8:50 AM
  117. Ofc
  118. Alright
  119. Do you feel that you will be able to deliver transparent judgements despite any personal bias concerning race, religion, ethnicity, sexuality or gender?
  120. Including political beliefs
  121.
  122. Sputnik — Today at 8:52 AM
  123. Absolutely. I can detach myself from personal biases very well.
  124.
  125. Mini Moose — Today at 8:56 AM
  126. Do you feel that special precautions are necessary for the safety of players that maybe at a higher risk of harassment? I.E - Women, lgbtqia+ members, etc
  127.
  128. Sputnik — Today at 8:59 AM
  129. Aurora is a very liberal place and is much more accepting of those things. Still, there have been instances of predatory/hostile behaviour that I have read about, not just from Aurora but from other servers as well. There shouldn't be any special privileges for anybody, but there are absolutely situations where a victim's sex, religion, sexuality, etc. should be considered and taken into account when handling a complaint - especially when it's confidential and contains sensitive information like blackmail or targeted harassment.
  130.
  131. Mini Moose — Today at 8:59 AM
  132. Alright
  133. If you are presented with a situation that goes against any personal belief, will you be able to handle it without bias?
  134.
  135. Sputnik — Today at 9:01 AM
  136. Like I said before, I'm confident that I can detach myself from personal biases when it comes to staff matters. When push comes to shove, I have no problem with that.
  137.
  138. Mini Moose — Today at 9:01 AM
  139. Alright.
  140. I have nothing else to ask
  141.
  142. Sputnik — Today at 9:02 AM
  143. Cool
