- The gods have invaded the Earth! Tiring of the eternal wars amongst immortals, and the loss of their brethren, the gods find a new way to compete, a game of sorts, a competition. Who can have the most followers? Previously used to give different gods a boost in power, the gods work to subtly influence as many people as possible and convert them to devout and faithful followers. Some gods even take it a step farther, reverting to their ways of old, and fornicating with the mortals to create Demi-gods. The only issue is, no one knows quite how to count a Demi-god, whether as follower or a new member of the pantheon. Most opt to make the Demi-god prove themselves, but it’s not written in gold.
- At the moment, most mortals still refuse to believe in the gods (or at least the existence of multiple gods), so conversion is tough. The Average Follower is tough to capture and not-so-difficult to dissuade. Committed Followers are more indoctrinated, though a life changing event can turn them away, while a Devout Follower is hooked for life. Some followers have even worked their way up the ladder and gained so much of their god’s favor that they become Anointed Leaders, chosen to guide and manage the rest of his followers, at least among a certain area. Others pride themselves as miniature manifestations of the god’s power and become Champions, ready to represent their god in battle should the time come.
- With the resurgence of gods, and the opening of pathways to the mortal realm, comes the exploitation of these mortals by the gods’ sworn enemies. Evil gods, and Titans alike project their presence down to Earth, some posing as gods and gaining followers all the same. The gods notice but merely accept it as more competition, knowing they are safe in the heavenly skies where they reside.
- But the competition isn’t universally decided on. Some gods couldn’t care less about followers and merely wish to have the strongest champion. Others wish to have the most children (Demi-gods), and others are simply amused by the antics of their fellow deities or don’t care at all.
- With enough worship, or a good enough reason, a god will descend from the skies and make their presence known and felt on Earth. To do this, gods need a devout follower to possess and shape in their image to act as an Avatar. Titans don’t have such a (self-imposed) limitation and will do so forcefully to any person they choose.
- Each god has their own way of doing things and thus their own favored skills and powers that are shared amongst their followers. Lesser gods tend to be gods who have power over an aspect of a bigger concept that an average or greater has control of, Average gods usually control one concept very well and lack a certain amount of power and versatility, Greater gods tend to have a bit more power and multiple specialties, while High Level gods are usually family to the Skyfather or Pantheon Leader, though this changes on occasion. The Skyfather and Pantheon Leader is the number one god who rules the rest in his Pantheon and is usually some type of creation god as well. There are exceptions to every rule (Eshu, Apep, Horus/Heru, etc.), but these are the general guidelines. On the other hand, Titans are gods who specialize in a certain natural element or concept such as Fire or Sleep or Time, and thus focus entirely on that.
