SMT Marathon #2 Information

Apologies on the announcement delay but it's finally here! The SMT Speedrunning Discord is running their second marathon on the RPGLB channel and all the relevant information is here.

The Marathon:

The marathon will be run on the RPGLimitBreak Channel - expected dates are October 30-September 1. Depending on submissions this is flexible but this is the current target. The plan is, pending submissions, something in the area of 60+ hours of games. This may be extended or shortened, pending submissions.

Since this is to be hosted on an external channel, all the rules of the RPGLB channel as well as those from our own discord are required. Basically, behave like an adult. Fortunately, the entire series is rated M however, keep the swearing to a minimum. Anything that would qualify as PG-13 is fine. Commentary is expected in some form for every run and the runners are responsible for finding or providing it. The runner has the final say for any and all commentary concerns.


The Goal:

Given the somewhat rare sight of seeing SMT runs in major marathons, this marathon has several goals. First, the goal is to showcase the community's hard work and how incredible these games are and can be. Second, this is an opportunity for runs that have struggled to get chances in other marathons to have a video to point to where yes, this run would be successful in your event. Third, it should be an entertaining celebration of the series that people enjoy watching. Last, it should just be a ton of fun.

Run Criteria:

The games will not be solely selected by one person this year - instead, we have a committee of three: Ghoul02 (myself), PinkPajamas, and GhostKumo will review the runs to put together our games list. The goal was to create as much of a balance as possible on games submissions and each committee member has things to offer. PinkPajamas has been integral and is a huge source of knowledge on SMT runs and is familiar with marathon submissions. GhostKumo has been on multiple marathon selections committees as well as the organizer of his own event series in RPG Blitz. I'm incredibly thankful to them for helping me.

The form has the same submissions criteria as RPGLimitBreak. This is not accidental - it's an opportunity to practice submitting runs in a different environment. Unlike the previous event, there are no restrictions that I know of for games we are willing to take other than that they have to be SMT or SMT Adjacent (Persona, DemiKids, Jack Bros are all fine submissions for example). Submissions will run until August 22nd, and the games list should be out a week later on August 29th at the latest, with the schedule to follow shortly. All organization between runners will take place in the SMT Speedrunning discord.
