- STEP ONE:
- Open Terminal and type:
- sudo xattr -r -d com.apple.quarantine INSERTFILEPATHHERE
- You simply copy paste the part before INSERTFILEPATHHERE and then drag the .app file onto the line in Terminal after the command to easily enter the filepath to the .app file. This command will ask for your password.
- *** NOT IMPORTANT JUST FYI: I've had more consistent results doing things this way, creating a Gatekeeper exception first for the entire .app file rather than trying to remove the quarantine attribute later after doing the little compile trick inside the .app package. Using the "sudo spctl --master-disable" command didn't work at all for me anyway, so I think this is simply more straightforward in the end regardless. ***
- STEP TWO:
- Right click the .app file and click "Show Package Contents", then navigate through from the Contents folder to the MacOS folder, where you will find a text file named either FlashPlayer, or named after the current EQ build you're trying to run, which in my case would be EQ 2 (0.1.7) Mac
- Inside terminal again, type:
- chmod +x INSERTFILEPATHHERE
- Again dragging the FlashPlayer or "EQ2 (0.1.7) Mac" file onto where INSERTFILEPATHHERE *would* be is the easiest way to do this. You should see the icon change for the file and Finder should recognize it as an executable now. You can now either open the file we just fixed, or head back out to the original .app file and run the game from there.
- Side note: If you're trying to play EQ2 the game will ask for permissions to capture keystrokes, go ahead and follow the prompts, clicking the lock and entering your password again to give the necessary privacy/security permissions to allow the game to capture your keystrokes and clicks.
- Happy fapping!
