  1. '''Kiritsugu; In a Bathroomful of Awkward'''
  2.
  3. Kiritsugu's presence isn't so much felt as it is totally unnoticed for the first few seconds. Beryl doesn't have a soldier's sense of her surroundings at all times, particularly when she's still in the middle of her morning routine. When the Magus-killer finds her, she's seated atop the closed toilet lid shaving her legs. The good news is that this minimizes the likelihood that her "father" or one of the burly guards Kiritsugu would have passed will walk in on the boss's daughter being accosted by a strange and scruffy man. The other bit of good news is that Beryl seems exceptionally good at biting back her startled yelps when she knows she needs to stay quiet. The bad news is that this conversation is going to have to take place in a bathroom, and also that Beryl seems rather miffed about being walked in on like this.
  4. Hastily tugging her pajama pants back on, Beryl takes a deep, frustrated breath, then gets to her feet. She's not exactly imposing under normal circumstances, but the PJ's aren't doing her any favors. Her composure remains, however, save for lightly-flushed cheeks.
  5. "...Yes, Mr. Emiya?" Beryl sighs, arms indignantly crossed over her chest. Apparently this couldn't have waited a second longer.

  7. '''Beryl's Bathroom (Hooray For Awkward)'''
  8.
  9. Kiritsugu observed Beryl's faintly-embarrassed, slightly-angry, rather-awkward pyjama-clad form with acceptance. Not approval. Acceptance.
  10.
  11. She had not cried out. He had expected no less. She would hardly find it convenient if he removed the guards. And so he took her request for his request at face value.
  12.
  13. "Three things," he said matter-of-factly.
  14.
  15. "As you have observed, there are times when I cannot operate without causing considerable tension in your group. However, I possess knowledge of a ritual that will circumvent this problem. Namely, summoning a humanoid familiar to fight for me."
  16.
  17. He held up his right hand so Beryl could see the crucifix Seal.
  18.
  19. "The familiar is known as a Heroic Spirit. When bound to me, it will be my Servant. This Command Seal is proof of my right to summon and control a Servant as its Master. I suggest that you will find it advantageous to have it on your side, if only because Servants tend to be far stronger than any humanoid has the right to be."
  20.
  21. He surgically removed any notion of humanity.
  22.
  23. "The Servant shall
  24.
  25. "A Heroic Spirit is a legendary existence, subsumed into the spiritual realm after death as recognition by the World. Usually for great feats on the battlefield, or other suitably heroic deeds."
  26.
  27. The cynicism in his voice might have been there, or it might have not. It was kind of hard to tell under the iron-pressed flatness.
  28.
  29. "I know the ritual for summoning a Heroic Spirit. I am asking you to work through it to summon one. I shall bind him to my services, and he shall become my Servant."
  30.
  31.
  32. "Under normal circumstances, summoning a Servant as a familiar is impossible. Fortunately, you have already exhibited the capacity to perform impossible feats by bringing me here."
  33.
  34. "Consider it another addition to your war."
