  1. Guardians level up as they gain experience. Pretty basic stuff. A new Guardian is considered to be level 1. (The game should be built that a campaign for starting characters can have them start the game from levels 1-3 based on experience.)
  2. The maximum level a Guardian can be is 30. However, most Guardians who live long enough only reach level 15. Lv 30 Guardians are great heroes, or at least legendarily notorious.

  4. The 30 levels of Guardianhood can be divided into 3 tiers.

  6. 1-10: Rank-and-File
  7. - The average joes and janes that make up a Guardian faction and do the day to day missions. That doesn't mean their actions aren't important- they still have less power and expertise, but even a simple mission to exterminate some Primordial Rats of Misery can end up changing the course of history, and every Hero-tier started from level 1. Most teenaged and twentysomething Guardians are at this rank, as the range of 14-25 is when most Guardians get their powers.
  8. 11-20: Veteran
  9. - Hometown heroes that are respected for making it this far. Wizened from years of battle, their knowledge and skill may not be the stuff of history books, but its valuable nonetheless. These are the people often sent into more dangerous missions. Due to the time it typically takes to reach this level, Veterans are rarely much younger than 30- 25 at youngest, usually.
  10. 21-30: Hero?
  11. - Guardians that reach this level are nothing short of extraordinary. People cheer them on, and young children look up to them as idols and role models. Of course, that's assuming they've kept up good PR. What's unmistakable though, is that these Guardians are not to be messed with- Primordials run from them, too.

  13. Creating a level 1 Guardian, newly transformed

  15. You don't have to play your character from the moment they were revived and given Guardian powers- but that's where character creation starts.

  17. There are 4 main stats, measured on a scale of 1-12, with "average" being a score of 4-6, and truly exceptional is a score of 10+. To determine your "base" stats- what they're like in human form- roll two d8s for each stat, and take the higher one. You can reassign the numbers you get to any stat.

  19. The four stats:
  20. - Body (physical tasks)
  21. - Mind (mental prowess)
  22. - Soul (emotional health)
  23. - Voice (social skills)

  25. Then, for each stat, roll a d4. This is how much is added to that stat when you transform.

  27. Then, you have specialized attributes, we just call them attributes. There are three for each stat. You can have up to 3 ranks in an attribute normally, with the maximum going up to 5 while transformed. Go ahead and pick any three attributes to take one rank in for your civilian form, and add one more rank to any attribute linked to your highest-scored stat. For your Guardian form, pick any three attributes to add a rank to. These can be ones that you already have ranks in. You can add multiple ranks to one attribute in this stage, as long as it doesn't exceed 3 for civillian form, or 5 for Guardian form.

  47. Finally, we get to the more exciting part- choosing your star type and class.

  49. First, you choose your Star. Most of the time, this is indicative of the personality you've imagined for your character. There are 8 star types, each with their own advantages. Once you've chosen one, look to see which stat bonuses it gives you.

  51. Brass- +2 Body, +1 Voice
  52. Silver- +2 Mind, +1 Soul
  53. Gold- +2 Soul, +1 Voice
  54. Iron- +2 Body, +1 Soul
  55. Platinum- +2 Voice, +1 Body
  56. Copper- +2 Mind, +1 Body
  57. Bronze- +2 Soul, +1 Body
  58. Electrum- +2 Soul, +1 Mind

  60. Now record any level 1 features your star gives you.

  62. Now, you choose your class. Each one comes with a choice of a bonus rank to certain attributes. Pick any two, or put two ranks in one attribute offered. In the event all attributes the class offers ranks for are maxed out, choose whichever attribute you like.

  64. Amber- Strength, Speed, Guile, Charisma
  65. Sapphire- Knowledge, Guile, Spirit, Speed
  66. Citrine- Charisma, Honor, Morale, Guile
  67. Jet- Guile, Wisdom, Speed, Willpower
  68. Diamond- Toughness, Strength, Morale, Speech
  69. Peridot- Spirit, Willpower, Wisdom, Speed
  70. Ruby- Morale, Spirit, Charisma, Toughness
  71. Electrum- Speech, Charisma, Speed, Knowledge

  75. There's one final part to character creation- deciding what your chosen weapon will be. This is simple- as long as your character knows what the weapon is, they can choose it.

  77. A note on proficiency- works a lot like attribute ranks. Many pieces of equipment need some form of proficiency to be used. Proficiency ranks go up to three for each item. A Guardian starts with two proficiency ranks with their chosen weapon.
