  1. Turning to a servant, Niklaus ordered them to head to his study and retrieve a set of notes and books, handing them an emblem with the seal of Tilandre on it so they would be granted entrance. With that said he turned back to the two boys and nodded. "Victor, for you this will be an introduction to a magic of a different kind, for.." He looked to Jeremi, not knowing his name and giving a gesture to encourage him to provide it.
  2.
  3. "Him, it will be the basics of rune magic. All anyone can ever teach in truth is the basics for this, advancement all depends on how well you study, experiment, and grasp the concept as a whole. Rune Magic is a mixture of cognitive and symbolic magics, the symbolic part comes from the drawing of a rune itself, it is literally a symbol, a sign. The rune is the physical way by which we cast the will imbued in the word it stands for upon the world, which brings me to the cognitive, or thinking aspect."
  4.
  5. Conjuring a sheet of pure stone, Niklaus pulled out the carving knife he kept on his person specifically for writing runes when he didn't use Rokaros in conjunction with earth magic to make large scale ones. "We have to think about the meaning of the rune we wish to use when writing it, and runes have several meanings. By focusing upon that meaning as we write it, and impressing it upon the target. This way, we can give attributes to things they might not ordinarily have, like this sheet for instance."
  6.
  7. Surrounding the blade of the carving knife, Niklaus charged it with mana, giving it a blue glow which trailed on the surface of the stone sheet as he wrote a single rune upon it, which burned in bright blue, pure mana written into existence. "Stone is hard, inflexible, and brittle in certain cases. The rune I just wrote carries a meaning of 'flexibility', so now, rather than just snap when I fold it in two.." Niklaus bent the stone sheet, which visibly bended without snapping or breaking, not a single crack upon its surface. "It does this instead."
  8.
  9. "In summation, in order to write runes, we need three things. Mana, of course to fuel the rune writing. The meaning of the rune we want to focus on. And the design of the rune written upon the surface we want its powers to enact upon. Once a rune has been written, it won't disppear unless it is directly overpowered by an outside source of mana." The servant he sent had returned with the books and notes, Niklaus taking them along with the emblem he gave for good measure, passing a book off to Jeremi which was titlted "Rune Writing's Basics: The Beginning Twenty-Five". Pausing, he looked in the shelves of the library for a second copy, and handed that off to Victor for him to read along too if he chose.
  10.
  11. Writing utensils were placed at their desks, along with paper, and Niklaus picked up his lecture. "We'll start with the first five runes. I want you to memorize its meaning, and how to write it, -without- using mana. Once I'm satisfied that you have committed to memory every basic rune and its meaning in complete perfection, then we can start practicing the actual use of rune writing, and not a second before. Done wrong, rune writing can have dangerous repercussions."
