- Yun's EX lunge punch is strong on block, but there are a few things to consider:
- 1) An excellent defense to Yun's standard approach is to neutral jump. If the Yun jumps at a similar time you'll get a shot at anti-air if he divekicks, and his normals are not well-suited for anti-airing anything at range. If you are using neutral jumps against Yun, EX lunge punch does nothing for him because he doesn't want to waste bar (especially in Ultra, with Red Focus being a key goal for many characters now.)
- 2) There is quite a bit of startup on EX lunge punch. Online you might not be able to react, but in the REAL GAME (offline) reacting to it is feasible. Ironically, it is similar to a blanka horizontal ball, and many characters can beat it clean with a jab.
- 3) Say you block it. Due to the nerf on Yun's HK upkicks, the mixup afterwards is not as strong. If you time a throw perfectly, the ONLY thing he can beat it with without spending meter is a frame-perfect cr.LP. If he DOES spend meter to get throw-invincibility, then he spent two bars on one guess for a relatively small chunk of damage, all things considered. And even better, many good Yuns will know this, and will very likely go for cr.LP most of the time. This may lead to Yun players getting very predictable depending on the player, and using a reversal after blocking the EX lunge punch will become an attractive option.
