tore the night,
leading a ten-ton metal beast
with a twelve-cylinder heart
that beat and beat and beat
its eight rubber feet
'gainst the worn blacktop.

The dull thwock
of rubber on braille
cut through the hollow
silence.

A low din, a roar, then
no more.

Monster, slain,
one eye wide and empty,
one shattered,
wept oil and dull fluids,
splashed and sputtered
'crost the worn blacktop.

In one murky grey pool,
a single drop of scarlet.
