  1. Chris10 14:17:07
  2. tzip: I have family values - and I don't hate gays. Is something wrong with me?
  3. innit 14:17:08
  4. Evangelical Christians are the religious people Jesus denounced about a hundred times in the Gospels.
  5. tzip 14:17:11
  6. innit, oh gosh, I'd have to go back through a gazillion articles, a gazillion phrases showing bias. It's left of even ME!

  8. Chris10 :)
  9. innit 14:17:19
  10. Chris10: What are your family values?

  13. Chris10 14:17:33
  14. innit: I value families.
  15. tzip 14:17:38
  16. Chris10, yes, as I've noted before you're ALL screwed up. You insist on being courteous in spite of being a Christian. REPENT!
  17. Chris10 14:17:40
  18. innit: What is the confusion.
  19. + icequeen81 14:17:45
  20. oooooooh CriticalPurple, you might have outdone me
  21. innit 14:17:46

  29. Chris10 14:18:09
  30. tzip: Yeah, Jesus could really spoil a dinner party.

  39. Chris10 14:18:50
  40. tzip: Oh, I have examples.
  41. CriticalPurple: Yeah, just a sip or two ... just to see, you know?
  42. innit 14:19:26
  43. Christ10, I set your statements down, as you're unavailable for debate in #Christiandebate.
  44. tzip 14:19:44
  45. Ok, those are YOUR family values, Fen. ... and, er.. Jesus'. They're not Falwell's though.
  46. innit 14:19:47
  47. In the United States, the banner of "family values" has been used by conservatives to fight abortion, gay rights, and major feminist objectives in politics.[7]
  48. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Family_values
  49. In sociological terms, nontraditional families make up the majority of American households.[16] As of 2014, only 46% of children in the U.S. live in a traditional family, down from 61% in 1980.[17] This number includes only families with parents who are in their first marriage, whereas the percentage of children simply living with two married parents is 65% as of 2016.[18] However, there are many who hold that the nuclear family is the fabric that holds society together[19] and work to promote stronger family values. The Chemin Neuf community, the Bruderhof,[20] and the Evangelical Alliance all work to promote the nuclear family.
  50. tzip 14:20:57
  51. Fen, YOU haven't, but he's supremely influential in 'evangelical' circles.
  52. + icequeen81 14:20:58
  53. You know what? I created a theory today.
  54. innit 14:21:13
  55. Nuclear families is a pretty narrow familial structure not found in many cultures.
  56. {Q} 14:21:21
  57. Actual traditional family values: 6 wives and 4 concubines.
  58. innit 14:21:22
  59. I am not aware of evidence that indicates its any better than alternatives.
  60. I am aware of evidence that indicates it's inferior, though.
  61. tzip 14:21:44
  62. Chris10, just not the life of women. Only the fetus'. That's the problem I have with the Abrahamic religions in general. The denegration of women there is... umm.. not my cuppa tea.
  63. + icequeen81 14:21:46
  64. I recently read shakespears King Lear. Then I was watching a lot of people discuss and analyze. I decided that we cannot really understand the richness of shakespeare because our society has so been degraded that we can't even see the moral points he drives home in his work.
  65. innit 14:21:46
  66. Evangelical Christians don't care about evidence, though.
  67. They routinely pursue policies that are counter to their goals.
  68. For example, abstinence only programs, even though those policies lead to the highest rates of teenage pregnancy.
  69. ← Banquo has left (Quit: Page closed)
  70. innit 14:23:20
  71. Expansive sex-education programs, which lead to the lowest rates of teenage pregnancy, are rejected.
  72. {Q} 14:23:31
  73. Fen: There you go. Now you can't say that ever again.
  74. tzip 14:23:45
  75. Chris10, you haven't read, nor could I have expected you to have read, the stories of women, their ob gyns, the horrors of a pregnancy gone wrong that the woman has to BY LAW keep. No, no abortion was done and that's all the pro-life people care about. Who cares about the horrors the woman goes through, nor the subsequent health problems.
  76. innit 14:23:49
  77. Evangelical Christians are the bogeyman they make Muslims out to be who reject American culture.
  78. tzip, a lot of people against abortion have low empathy.
  79. I don't think your arguments will be effective.
  80. exbee 14:24:37
  81. "too many OB-GYN's can't practice their...love...with women all across this country!"
  82. tzip 14:24:42
  83. innit, or as I prefer to note, ignorance of what women go through sometimes with pregnancies. It's not willful brutality,, just ignorance.
  84. innit 14:25:06
  85. tzip, they score high on social dominance orientation.
  86. Other people exist to serve them.
  87. They're a great threat to our societies.
  88. tzip 14:25:24
  89. Chris10, EXACTLY, but under the pressure of the general public, i.e. Falwell. Health care not by doctors, not by medicine, but by legislatures. How the very heck does this make any sense?
  90. innit 14:25:28
  91. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_dominance_orientation
  92. + icequeen81 14:26:05
  93. You know. I have not been incredibly interested in even taking part of the abortion debate. I love life and I love babies and I am older now with no babies and so I always offer to all my friends that I will take their babies. But I have ran into some men who really preach against abortion and I always looked at them skeptically. They have convinced me that they really do care about women and women's issues and women's fertili
  94. exbee 14:26:05
  95. Sardaukar, those suck!!! (and i'm not saying that's a bad thing)
  96. tzip 14:26:22
  97. Chris10, but that's not what is SAID by the Christian Right, nor is that what's legislated. And "life? does that include the future kidney failure of the mother due to having to carry that pregnancy?
  98. Chris10, no, it doesn't. (I'll asnswer for you. ) <g>
  99. exbee 14:26:52
  100. If it's legitimate rape, the woman's body has ways of shutting that whole thing down.
  101. + icequeen81 14:27:00
  102. I appreciate men who really love babies and love protecting women's babies.
  103. I kind of appreciate anyone who tries to protect anyone period. This is an ugly world.
  104. exbee 14:28:00
  105. well as mother theresa said, to say we have too many children is like saying we have too many flowers.
  106. {Q} 14:28:20
  107. But who will protect us from the ugly christians?
  108. tzip 14:28:24
  109. hmm.. not sure what point you're addressing, Chris10, but I have to go. I'll just leave with the repeated observation that women in both Islam and Christianity are second class people if not third class. If you can ever show me any differently I'll sure listen.
  110. gotta go
  111. + icequeen81 14:28:42
  112. That is the preference Chris. Of course I wish people were more protective of teenage girls and I really do wish that the church would really look at some of the pain and oppression that women are under in some of these situations.
  113. exbee 14:28:49
  114. the beautiful ones!
  115. innit 14:28:52
  116. icequeen81: I am essentially a vegan (still eat eggs in food)
  117. I can tell you that people against abortion don't care about life
  118. They are very often extremely uncaring people
  119. They will bomb hundreds of civilians at a time with a 'well, you gotta keep America safe' shrug
  120. + icequeen81 14:29:37
  121. You might be right in some cases innit... but truly I have found some pro-life lifers who are really very touched when it comes to women's fertilities.
  122. innit 14:29:38
  123. They'll imprison children and moms at the border for seeking aslyum, which is legal

  131. + icequeen81 14:30:31
  132. I have no doubt that in the world in general, women's issues need to be looked at a bit more closely. Sometimes men in charge and are preaching and focus a lot on women's bits, they don't really understand the darkness and the evil of living underneath some oppressors thumb.
