  1. This leads to my next question: do you think our country's public transport system is good enough -- no, competitive enough compared to the rest of the world?
  2.
  3. Your answer is likely a screaming "hell no" for reasons as self-evident as they are pervasive. Our tricycles are noisy; our jeepneys are claptrap rustbuckets that belch smoke. Our taxis cheat on us; our buses have balding tyres and are stuck sharing one lane. Our trains and rail lines are late and infrequent; our airport terminals run into crippling issues when needed most. And while we have enough waterborne ships, the boats have begun to show their age, to say nothing of the Pasig River Ferry that, for all its uniqueness, still has to sail along an almost-dead waterway.

  5. But that's the thing. As a point-to-point system, we might have the best framework for public transportation in Asia. Or not, but we already have the bones of a system that can economically and efficiently serve every kind of customer, regardless of income level. It's all just bogged down by everything else that sucks away at that potential.
  6.
  7. Let me explain.
  8.
  9. the execution leaves much to be desired, but the basic system itself doesn't need sweeping changes.
