They had been moving quietly and following the map for several hours now. Their destination much closer by the dragon’s reckoning.

The suppressor he had attached to charity as it turned out, had allowed them to move without attracting too much attention.

>Notice how there aren’t just hordes and hordes of enemies jumping down our throats? Notice how I’m not using a massive amount of ammunition? That’s called common sense. It helps people survive.

Chrysalis, clenched her teeth harder. He’d been doing this for a while now, the arrogant little snot, and while she could have simply proceeded to trade barbs back and forth with him she had a better idea a few moments ago.

<SKREE!>

A smaller clump of centipede like creatures rushed them.

>Oh no! Whatever will I do. Oh wait…

<KABLAM!>

A quick blast from crackerjack 2 dispatched them handily.

>TA-DA! Enemy dead WITHOUT wasting time on showing off. Shall we?

He gestured to the next chamber.

That was about enough of that.

‘Very impressive lizard boy, really, I’m super super impressed. …Hey, how would you deal with this one?’

She turned behind them

<SKREEEEEEEE!>

The dragons expression fell.

>…Why?

The queen smiled back without a hint of repentance.

‘Because screw you.’

>Y’know what? I’ve got something for this.

Holstering charity and crackerjack he drew the third weapon he brought on this little expedition.

‘…What was that?’

>As I was telling you earlier before you cut me off, Beneficence here is a grenade launcher, packed with enough power to liquefy that horde you called.

<BOOM BOOM BOOM>

>…Chrysalis? Hey, buggy, why are you going pale?

‘…So….y’know that sonar thing I did?’

>Yeah?

‘It kinda’ showed me that the caverns around here are a bit…unstable.’

‘No WAIT!’

The rocks began to fall all around them as the ground started to shift. Before she could grab him to teleport out he had already dashed out of her range forcing her to pelt after him.

As they dashed down the tunnels suddenly they opened into a larger chamber, unfortunately, it was also a dead end.

The entry behind her collapsed trapping them inside as a massive crack began running down the center of the chamber and one side began to slide downward.

The queen froze a moment uncertain quiet what to do.

Suddenly a large stalactite snapped off and plunged toward spike and the decision was made for her.

‘No…’

Her eyes and horn alight in green flame she reached out with all her prodigious power to grab all the living rock around them easily swatting those still falling out of any harmful path as she stabilized the tremor.

‘NOT! LIKE! THIS!’

With great effort and visible strain she slowly raised the fallen side of the chamber back into position and held it there. Then she began to focus her energies into her horn.

‘RAUGHHHHHHHH’

A beam of magic lanced from her horn sweeping slowly over the crack above and below melting the rock back into a solid piece, causing the tremors to subside as she queen’s magic flared out.

‘Pant…pant…pant…’

>Chryslais?

‘Fuck…these…caves…’

Her eyes rolled back as she collapsed.

All around her, things were calm, quiet, simple and easy. Nothing changing, nothing happening, nothing at all. To most in the midst of training, this would mean something had gone horribly wrong.

To the yellow former, perhaps one day again, pegasi, it meant for once things were going exactly right.

For in her hoof was a tiny little tea cup spinning a tiny little way, and in that tiny tea cup was a tiny mouse, enjoying being brushed on all sides by floating, moving brushes that had not been in existence mere minutes ago.

What made this special, unlike so many before, is that this was all that was happening. No other floating monsters, no other carnival rides spouting from the ether, nothing. Just a simple little cup and simple little brushes, nothing more, nothing less.

To most, this would be a sign of a start. Of the very beginning.

To her...

"...This is wonderful."

It felt like she was finally home.

>Do you want to try more?

"...No. I think... I think I'll enjoy this, for now."

So entranced were her eyes, the Queen could not possibly take it from her.

>...you won't need me at all soon, will you?

"Oh, I hope not."

She didn't mean it like that, the changeling fully well knew. Still, with what her life had been so far...

>Someday soon, then you won't need me anymore.

It was just one more thing on the pile that was changing.

She spoke to herself, no others. Even in the crowd, none heard her, or paid her any mind.

For why would they pay any mind to an average sized yellow earth pony with red hair, with nothing strange about her at all?

In her desperation to run from the worries that threatened to overtake her, her mind had wandered to places.

Strange places.

Places that made her wonder about just what it was she was capable of.

For instance...

The pony cried out, tripping on nothing at all and falling over her own legs before painfully meeting floor. The pegasi wasted no time, having seen the sparkle of magic that enclosed her hoof, and immediately looked with accusing eyes to every unicorn all around.

It hadn't even crossed her mind to look to the Queen's direction.

>Funny... they're capable of it too, thinking on it.

As the pegasi went off to find whoever had been so rude, it occurred to the disguised ling just how easily it really could have been any one of the unicorns all around her. They could so easily just wisk up a bit of magic hidden under something as simple as a hat and the whole world would be none the wiser.

So many things could be done... dark things.

>But not like me.

She, her species, was designed from the ground up for this. If they had cutie marks, they would be as shockingly similar as all appeared to be in body. They were made for this...

>So what is it we do when this is not to be...

It would be so easy to conquer a place nearby the Empire, and work from there. Defeating them, ruling them, would be so simple...

She could strike, and they would never know she was there...

But she remained hidden.

>... That's not an option... And it hasn't been for a long time.

She could live anywhere she wished with these powers.

But there was only one place she wanted to grow.

She was seen by a dozen faces all around...

And she had never been more lost.

Her hoof clopped down, yet it was not the sound of her metal shoe upon ground that rang out, but a dark, foreboding sound more akin to a gong being sounded.

As if to answer that call, darkness swirled all around her, until naught but her eyes remained visible.

"...Is it too late to change majors?"

>It was too late before thou was even born.

"What does that even-AHHHHHHHHHHH!"

The dark consumed him, completely this time, and soon his screams of terror was met with void.

Void, and the roaring laughter of a princess.

With a splash and a loud, auidible gasp, the head of none other than Princess Celestia crested the water, flinging it everywhere. He had to help steady her for a bit while she caught her breath, yet she looked nothing less than euphoric, a goofy smile on her face.

For a while, the prince and princess just stared.

She simply gave a look that said 'as if you need to ask', and back down she went.
