  1. Monika stares wide-eyed at the two of you. It feels like hours have passed before Natsuki looks up from her book and calls out to her.
  2. “Oh, hey Monika!”
  3. “H-hey…” Monika forces herself to avert her gaze to Natsuki who gets up to greet her.
  4. “Monika, it’s good to see you.” Yuri shuts her book and shifts to face the girl.
  5. “Gosh, I’m so popular today! Ahaha~” Monika flashes a smile at the two of them, then heads over to you and Sayori.
  6. “Hello Anon!” Monika forward a bit, arching her back and putting her arms behind her back. “Did you write a poem for today?”
  7. Oh, hey Monika.” You offer an apologetic smile, and her smiling gaze remains like a poison in your stomach.
  8. Sayori lets go of you and turns to Monika, wiping her eyes with her sleeve.
  9. “Anon forgot his poem for today, and he felt really down about it, so I gave him a hug to cheer him up!” Sayori flashes a wide smile, and Monika returns the gesture.
  10. “Is that so? You two have such a good friendship, honestly. I’m glad you can be there as a friend for him Sayori. I wish I had such a good friend Anon, you should feel lucky.” Monika turns to face you again. Her smiling face barely masks the icicles that bore into you from her glare.
  11. “Well, it’s a shame that you forgot your poem, but it’s only your second day so I’ll go easy on you for today.” Monika walks off and goes to talk with Natsuki and Yuri.
  12. You sigh. “Thanks, Sayori.”
  13. “No problem Anon. It seemed like there was something under the surface anyway.” Sayori smiles at you, her eyes asking for forgiveness.
  14. “Sayori, it’s fine, I promise.” You return her smile with a genuine smile of your own. She tucks your poem away into her bag before anyone else can see it.
  15. The rest of the club meeting goes as usual. Everyone shares their poems with each other while you collect your thoughts. You start to scribble down on a piece of paper, then decide against it, knowing that Danlet is watching.
  16. - You know that Monika still has powers to edit the code
  17. - You know that she can’t supersede Danlet
  18. - You’re pretty sure Monika is going to act the same as she did in the game
  19. - Danlet said “The whole game”. Whether that means six days, three days, or all the Acts is still a mystery.
  20. You’re brought back into reality as a pair of delicate fingers snaps in front of you. “Anon!” Sayori giggles at you. “What are you doing? Club’s almost over, it’s time to go home silly.”
  21. You stand up and grab your bag off the ground. “Thanks a bunch Sayori, I was a bit lost in thought there. You saved my butt twice today, look at that.”
  22. “’s what I do!” Sayori jabs puffs out her chest and jams her thumb into it.
  23. “Ehehe, let’s get home.” She drops the act, and you follow her out the door.
  24. The whole walk home, Sayori is silent.
  25. “Sayori, you alright?” You nudge her elbow.
  26. “Yeah, it’s nothing don’t worry about it.” Sayori refuses to look at you.
  27. You think for a time. “…alright, I trust you. Just making sure you’re doing okay, okay?”
  28. “Thanks Anon, you’ve been really sweet today.” Sayori nudges you back.
  29. You arrive in front of Sayori’s house. “I’ll see you later Anon!” Sayori walks into her house and shuts the door.
  30. You follow and enter the house.
  31. “Anon, this is my house. Your house is over there.” Sayori is giggling to herself as you drop your shoes off at the door.
  32. “I’ve declared this as my house now. I’m taking over.” You flash her a playful grin as you go and plop down on the couch. You pat the spot next to you, and Sayori tilts her head.
  33. “Anon, what are you doing…” Sayori furrows her brow for a moment, then her eyes light up “Oh! I get it!” She sits next to you and grabs the remote.
  34. “What do you wanna watch?”
  35. “Hmm… Well, I’m in a movie kind of mood, but you can pick what we watch.”
  36. “Ok Anon! I’ve got just the thing.” Sayori pops in a movie then moves back to her spot next to you. It’s some cheesy romance movie, but you don’t complain, for her sake.
  37. About an hour passes, and the movie is almost finished. You feel a warm head of hair press against your arm. “Sayori?”
  38. Her body jumps, and her head moves off your shoulder. “Oh, sorry Anon.” Sayori yawns, covering her mouth with her hand. “I couldn’t sleep at all last night, I’ve been tired all day.”
  39. You frown a bit and turn to her. “Sayori, are you sure you’re alright? You know you can tell me anything. Lately I’ve been trying to be a bit more open-minded about things, so please don’t hesitate to talk to me if you need to, okay?”
  40. Sayori’s eyes have deep bags under them. She looks up at you, but it feels like she’s looking at your soul instead of your eyes.
  41. She places her head on your chest. “Anon, I don’t know what it is, but these past two days it feels like you’ve completely changed, and that’s not a bad thing. I was a little scared at first, but you’ve been so sweet. I think I can trust you with this.”
  42. You swallow hard and Sayori giggles. “Your heart is beating real loudly, like you already know what I’m about to say. The truth is, I feel really empty inside, Anon. I feel like a husk, a body without a spirit to carry. I think I’m depressed Anon, and I don’t know why.”
  43. Her eyes well up with tears. “Every day, images of hanging myself pop into my head, and they’re comforting. It feels like I want it to happen when I think about it, and It makes me really scared. I’m not even sure if I wanna live anymore Anon, and I have no idea why.”
  44. You wrap your arms around her in a tight embrace, burying your nose into her chin. “Thank you for talking to me, Sayori. I can never know exactly how you feel, but I’m going to do my best to understand.”
  45. “Thanks, Anon.” She sniffles a bit.
  46. “Anytime, Sayori. Have you thought about maybe talking to someone?”
  47. She shakes her head. “My mind won’t let me, it feels like I can’t. Every time I go to try to get help, I feel like there’s no point. I don’t even know if I want help, either…”
  48. “That’s alright, I’m proud of you for trying, at least.”
  49. She chuckles to herself. “You call that trying? That’s nothing more than me being a lazy pile of garbage.”
  50. “Hey, come on now, don’t say that about yourself. You’re not a piece of garbage, you’re my friend.”
  51. You reach for her bag. “Your bag has your laptop in it, right? Why don’t we look together, maybe we can get something done if we did some research together?”
  52. “Alright, if you say so.” Sayori shuffles away from you, and you unzip her bag, grabbing the laptop buried inside.
  53. You two spend the next couple of minutes looking up different resources, checking out online help as well as different clinics in the area. By the time you finish, the sun has gone down, and Sayori is dozing on your shoulder again.
  54. “Hey, Sayori?” You nudge her awake, and she looks up at you. “It’s getting dark, maybe you should head to bed.”
  55. “Alright Anon.” Sayori and you both get up and move towards the door.
  56. You slip on your shoes and walk to the front door. “See you later Sayori, I had fun spending time with you.”
  57. You turn to move to open the door, but you feel something tugging at the back of your shirt.
  58. “Anon…” Sayori’s eyes are shrouded by her hair. “Thanks for coming over today, it really meant a lot to me.”
  59. “Of course. Sayori. Anytime you need me, just call me, okay? You have my cell number, right?”
  60. “Yeah, I do.”
  61. “Good. If you’re ever feeling down, or if you ever get those thoughts again, call me. I don’t care what time it is, if you’re scared you’re going to hurt yourself, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me, I’ll be over in seconds.”
  62. “Alright Anon, I will.”
  63. “Promise?” you hold out your Pinky to her. She looks up at you and lets a smile loose. The smile pierces into your heart and makes its way into your brain like no other smile of hers had before.
  64. She grabs your pinky with hers. “I promise!” Her smile gets wider, and it forces you to smile back.
  65. “I’ll see you later Sayori, have a good night. Stay safe, okay?”
  66. “I will!”
  67. You walk out of the door and make your way home, feeling glad that went exactly the way you imagined it in your head.
  68. …wait a second.
  69. You rush back into your house and open your door. You look around in your fridge for some sort of drink, anything to experiment on. You find a small bottle of Coca-Cola and grab it with your hands.
  70. You put it on the table and close your eyes. You picture the Coca-Cola bottle morphing into a can of Dr. Pepper, imagining every detail of its taste, temperature, feel, smell, sound, and look.
  71. You open your eyes and find that not only is the bottle of Coca-Cola gone, but in its place sits a cold can of Dr. Pepper.
  72. You crack open the can and take a sip. Everything is perfect, the way it tastes, the temperature, everything you imagined that can of soda to be was in your hands and going down your throat.
  73. You stare wide-eyed at the can. Realizing what you’ve done, you shut your eyes and imagine a bottle of Coke again. When you open your eyes, the can vanishes, and in its place returns the bottle of Coke.
  74. You suppress your ecstatic laughter only out of fear. Your hands move to your head and squeeze your scalp, your legs shaking.
  75. You begin to close your eyes, but stop yourself, knowing that Danlet is probably out there, still watching you from the 3D realm.
  76. You head up to your room and lay in your bed. You spend the night pondering of different ways of beating the game knowing you’ve barely scratched the surface of your potential.
