The Wanderer was keeping the enemy at bay with expansive swings of her broadsword. But the pure white mana trail that the weapon left in its wake was fading. She turned to Gideon and from beneath her broad-brimmed hat yelled out, “Hit me!”

“What?”

“Hit me! Hard as you can! Do it! Now!”

So Gideon Jura hauled off with a roundhouse punch that would have floored half a dozen Planeswalkers and—aura flaring—cracked it across the jaw of The Wanderer. Her head snapped back only an inch or two—as the rest of the blow’s kinetic energy was absorbed and transformed into mana that flowed down her arm and into her sword. A second later her repowered weapon was again effortlessly slicing Eternals in two.
