- There was a man standing at the water's edge.
- Alto, a childlike youth with a man's voice and jaw, stood alone on the beach, gazing over the aquamarine water with his unblemished sunny spheres. Smiling smiled to himself with anticipation, resting his cheek against one hand as he absent-mindedly adjusted his scarf. He wore a scarlet shirt that left his opaline arms bare and cinerescent shorts that looked comfortable and easy to wear. He had a immaculate visage with a glowing multihued head. He stood, awaiting his love.
- It started on that day, when he had found herself facing mortal danger, desperately in need of a savior. He came in the form of Ender, who cut down what danger he could and swept him away from the rest. From then on, they were inseparable. They shared every part of their life with each other. That was how it was to this very day.
- "Alto-kun," Ender said simply with an admiring look-over and a beaming grin. His violet crystals complimented his sunny coiffure, brushing against his shoulders, belying his resolute heart. He was dressed in his own unique fashion, a style unlike that of anyone else Alto knew. His skin was alabaster and his form was slight.
- "Oh, Gay Retard! You came!" Alto said breathlessly, reaching out to take him into an embrace. Color rose to Ender's face as he returned his hug with awkward enthusiasm. With that, they began to walk along the beach.
- The air was salty and warm, the sun sparkling bright and the waves foam-crested and royal blue, and yet Alto could not let himself be happy. He wanted to reach for Ender's steady hand, always a comfort, but it was his sadness -- who was he to burden Ender with that? Although he tried to stop them, his lips trembled, gemstone orbs filling with unshed tears.
- But he couldn't hide from Ender. He took Alto by the hand and drew him toward himself, and when he looked up into his face he had a smile warmer than the sun.
- "What's wrong?" he asked. "You look so sad!"
- He tried to smile, to show him that he was happy there, with him, but his bloom-colored lips would not obey him.
- "I'm sorry," he lamented softly, ducking his head. Ender's fingers, firm but gentle, tipped his chin up.
- "Don't be!" he ejected worriedly, warm depths searching out Alto's own. "I don't ever want you to be sad! I know, I'll tell you a joke! A dragon rider, a mage, and a bard all walk into this bar..."
- "Please," Alto breathed. He shook his head violently. "No jokes. I can't take it. You're so kind to me and so good and I ... and I..." He turned away as the tears came anew, spilling like pearls over his cheeks. Ender was quiet for a moment. His arms circled around him and Alto let himself lean back against his warm, gentle chest. He always felt safest when he was with Ender.
- "I don't want there to be anything between us," Ender said softly. "Aishiteru, Alto."
- "Oh, Gay Retard," he sighed adoringly. Alto turned in his arms and caught Ender's face between his delicate hands. For a long moment, all they did was gaze into each other's eyes, each filled to the brim with emotions unspoken, deeper than the ocean all around them.
- While they walked down the beach, they spotted a natural alcove in the cliff bordering the beach.
- "Oh! Is that..." Alto began.
- Ender pressed a finger to Alto's lips and said, "Yeah. Shh. Come on."
- The natural alcove was covered in creeping vines with leaves and tiny flowers. The sound of the ocean echoed all around them, and tiny crabs burrowed into the sand at their approach.
- "It's beautiful, Gay Retard."
- "I know," Ender murmured as Ender closed the distance between them. "So are you."
- Ender's lips were firm against his, and so too were his hands. Alto was arrested by the smell of his soap, light and fragrant over his clean skin.
- When Alto surfaced for air, he whispered, "Oh, Gay Retard..."
- It was some time before they left the alcove.
- "Look... it's the sunset."
- Alto lifted his head at Ender's words to behold the dying sun's carrot-colored radiance. "How beautiful."
- After a moment of silence, Ender took Alto's hands in his and said quietly and seriously, "Alto-kun, I need to say something. Without you, I would be the sea without the moon -- the moon without the sun -- I... I mean, what I mean to say is..."
- "Ender-kun," he breathed in response. "You are special to me too. You are my moon and stars."
- Ender brought their clasped hands to his lips. "Then... so long as you will it, we will never be parted."
- Alto sighed with contentment and brought Ender closer. He gazed at the beautiful aureate rays of the falling sun, thinking about everything that had transpired on this day and all that would pass between them.
- "Aishiteru, Ender-kun."
- "Aishiteru too, Alto-kun."
- Their lips met, and for a moment before they closed them, caramel windows to his soul met violet ones, aflame in the dying light. The sand was their witness and the rumbling ocean their approving audience, and Ender, his eternally faithful lover. Alto thought to himself that nothing could be more perfect in the world.
