  9. <p><strong>SCOPE OF POSITION</strong></p>

  11. <p><strong></strong>The Patient Advocate is responsible for the collection of delinquent patient balances (including self-payments, co-pays, deductibles and co-insurance), transmitting patient statements and responding to patient inquiries regarding balances due.</p>

  13. <p><strong>OPERATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES</strong></p>
  14. <p><br /><br /></p>
  15. <ol><ol>
  16. <li>Transmits and prints statements on a daily/weekly basis according to established protocol.</li>
  17. </ol></ol>
  18. <p>&nbsp;</p>
  19. <ol><ol>
  20. <li>Answers all patient telephone inquiries.</li>
  21. </ol></ol>
  22. <p>&nbsp;</p>
  23. <ol><ol>
  24. <li>Contacts patients regarding delinquent balances, by telephone and/or collection letter, in accordance with the Practice's collection policy.</li>
  25. </ol></ol>
  26. <p>&nbsp;</p>
  27. <ol><ol>
  28. <li>Updates information when necessary in order to process a claim due to missing or incorrect information.</li>
  29. </ol></ol>
  30. <p>&nbsp;</p>
  31. <ol><ol>
  32. <li>Assists patients and/or family members to identify any potential coverage or benefits that may assist in meeting their financial obligations.</li>
  33. </ol></ol>
  34. <p>&nbsp;</p>
  35. <ol><ol>
  36. <li>Responds to written, telephone, and face to face inquires related to delinquent patient balances.</li>
  37. </ol></ol>
  38. <p>&nbsp;</p>
  39. <ol><ol>
  40. <li>Continually meets the set goals for the accounts receivable aging for patient due balances.</li>
  41. </ol></ol>
  42. <p>&nbsp;</p>
  43. <ol><ol>
  44. <li>Works all return mail and probate according to established protocol.</li>
  45. </ol></ol>
  46. <p>&nbsp;</p>
  47. <ol><ol>
  48. <li>Follows up on Letter of Protection accounts on a quarterly basis.</li>
  49. </ol></ol>

  51. <ol><ol>
  52. <li>Sets up budget plans according to budget guidelines and works delinquent budget payments.</li>

  55. <p><strong>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED</strong></p>

  57. <ol><ol>
  58. <li>High School education or equivalent; post High School education a plus.</li>
  59. </ol></ol>
  60. <p>&nbsp;</p>
  61. <ol><ol>
  62. <li>Two years previous medical billing experience.</li>
  63. </ol></ol>

  65. <ol><ol>
  66. <li>Good communication and interpersonal skills necessary for interacting with patients, physicians, supervisors and other associates.</li>
  67. </ol></ol>
  68. <p>&nbsp;</p>

  70. <li>Comprehensive knowledge of computer skills necessary to perform all functions of the position.</li>
  71. </ol></ol>

  74. <li>Ability to organize and accomplish multiple tasks and have the flexibility to meet changing demands on a daily basis.</li>
