  1. "How're we doing?"
  2.
  3. Despite herself, her teammates rather dour mood had become infectious. She was tempted to complain to the instructor-a group project where 50% of the group wasn't invested in getting a good grade and convinced they wouldn't simply wouldn't work. She'd probably just been wasting time instead of even trying to slow down the heroes.
  4.
  5. "Pretty awful. You're a nurse and I'm a schoolgirl, and they've got bondage and tentacles on their side. I've seen how these movies end."
  6.
  7. Doc Fortune fumed, lips forming a frown. "Thats /doctor/. And I mean where are they? What are they doing."
  8.
  9. She heard her teammate give an exasperated sigh. "You're supposed to get blushy! Or ask what a schoolgirl is doing watching those movies! Ugh. We're doing fine. I lead them back to the entrance."
  10.
  11. /That/ was enough to grab Doc Fortunes attention. "They just followed you back to the start?"
  12.
  13. "Nope! But anytime they were near an intersection they'd passed before I'd show up and take a shot. Nothing major, just enough so they'd see me. First time that happens its like, 66% they go the wrong way. Second time, 88% of making the wrong decision. Odds work in your favor."
  14.
  15. Huh. Okay, so maybe her teammate wasn't throwing this thing after all. "What are they doing now?"
  16.
  17. "Sticking together. I'm about to go be my adorable self at them though! You keep doing whatever it is you are doing!"
  18.
  19. With that the communication ended, and Doc Fortune frowned, the amazonian American frustrated. Okay. So now /she/ was the person who wasn't doing anything on the group project. That clearly would not do. Well, if her teammate failed to keep distracting them, it was up to her to stop them from getting upstairs and closer to the bomb.
  20.
  21. Squaring her shoulders, she got to work.
  22.

  24.
  25. Phantom Beast and Tentalash were moving again-the former at more of a run, while the latter deliberately slowed, weaving back and forth down the hallway, keeping pace with her partner. A tight left turn, and in frontof them lay another trap-more green and yellow honey smeared over the floor of the hall.
  26.
  27. "And here she comes." A whisper of a statement, just meant for her partner, who nodded-and while she wasn't sure /how/ Tentalash knew this would be the ambush point, showed absolutely no response as Compass appeared right in front of them.
  28.
  29. Instead of creating limbs to get over the patch of honey this time, Phantom Beast just curled-wrapping her arms around herself as a new corona of mist spun about her-a turtle shell coming into existence, bright yellow. Tentalash's hair whipped out-grabbing either side of the wall as her arms lowered to pick up Phantom Beast, leaping over and tugging up as she vaulted the trap-and a half dozen firecrackers hit and bounced off the back of the turtle shell, harmlessly falling into the ooze and starting to explode.
  30.
  31. And without needing to avert gaze, Tentalash just followed the movements of the girl as she moved to the left-one tendril dragging behind herself, reminding her of which way she came. ANd since her job wasn't to follow Compass...
  32.
  33. They both landed, Phantom Beast unclasping her fasteners with a shrug despite both arms having been locked down, little emergency releases responding effortlessly as she split from Tentalash, pursuing Compass, while the racing hero went down the only path left after ruling the others out.
