Psychic è la mossa STAB principale, in grado di colpire neutralmente la maggior parte dei tipi, esclusi Dark e Steel, oltre che infliggere danni pesanti a Pokémon come Tentacruel, Amoonguss e Heracross. Giga Drain è preferita ad altre possibili mosse di tipi Grass per via del suo effetto curativo secondario, che permette mitigare i danni residui di entry hazard e status e mantenere Celebi in salute. Dazzling Gleam permette di colpire Hydreigon, che wallerebbe altrimenti l'intero set. Earth Power è una possibile alternativa da utilizzare in congiunzione con Groundium Z per battere più facilmente alcuni tipi Steel.

L'utilizzo di Psychium Z permette di trasformare Psychic in un potente attacco monouso capace di mettere KO Pokémon come Togekiss, Gligar e Rotom-H dopo un Nasty Plot. Natural Cure permette di non curarsi troppo degli status, consentendo a Celebi di agire da status absorber e trovare un buon numero di occasioni di setup. Groundium Z permette di infliggere danni pesanti a tipi Steel che non potrebbe altrimenti fronteggiare, come Mega Aggron, Bisharp e Doublade, oltre che Pokémon meno diffusi come Alolan Muk, mantenendo comunque una buona coverage neutrale insieme alle sue due mosse STAB principali.

Sfrutta Natural Cure e il tipo di Celebi per trovare occasioni di setup contro Pokémon come Hippowdon, Empoleon e Suicune, ma solo se i suoi check, come Mega Aggron e Bronzong, sono stati già indeboliti a sufficienza, o rischi di regalare momentum all'avversario. La sua presenza offensiva causa numerosi switch: sfruttali per effettuare un doppio switch a tua volta per mettere pressione ai check avversari di Celebi. Gioca con prudenza contro Pokémon più lenti come Hydreigon e Togekiss, almeno fino a quando non sei certo che non utilizzo un set Choice Scarf. Sfrutta al massimo Natural Cure quando affronti team passivi, che fanno eccessivo affidamento a mosse di status e danni passivi per gestire i setup sweepers. Dopo un Nasty Plot, Celebi è in grado di infliggere danni considerevoli mantenendo alti i suoi HP con Giga Drain, mentre Shattered Psyche è una mossa monouso estremamente potente: usala per mandare KO alcuni tipi Steel, come Scizor, con un minimo di danni residui. Infine, utilizza Celebi come pivot e status absorber contro Pokémon come Amoonguss e Alomomola, che potrebbero altrimenti infastidire il resto del team.

Celebi si trova a proprio agio in team bulky offense e balance, ma può essere utilizzato anche in altri archetipi, come hyper offense e stall, se dotati del giusto supporto. Utilizzatori di Pursuit come Mega Aerodactyl, Scizor e Krookodile sono in grado di trappare Latias, uno dei check più ostici di questo set per via dell'accesso a Calm Mind e Roost. Scizor è un partner particolarmente buono, poichè è in grado di portare Celebi in campo con U-turn e indebolire Pokémon difensivi speciali come Blissey e Bronzong. Pokémon più veloci come Mega Aerodactyl, Nihilego e il già citato Latias sono in generale problematici per Celebi, per cui è necessario che il team sia in grado di gestirli, ad esempio tramite mosse con priorità, come Bullet Punch di Scizor e Sucker Punch di Bisharp, o di utilizzatori di Choice Scarf come Hydreigon.

Celebi fits best on bulky offense and balance builds but can be used on any archetype outside of hyper offense and stall with the proper team support. Pursuit trappers such as Mega Aerodactyl, Scizor, and Krookodile can remove Latias, which is one of this set's hardest counters because it can beat Celebi with Calm Mind and Roost. Scizor deserves a special mention due to its ability to bring in Celebi with U-turn and weaken specially defensive Pokemon like Blissey and Bronzong for Celebi. Faster Pokemon like Mega Aerodactyl, Latias, and Nihilego can beat Celebi with their STAB moves, so it is imperative to have ways of handling them on the team. Strong priority like Scizor's Bullet Punch and Bisharp's Sucker Punch as well as Choice Scarf users like Hydreigon can help revenge kill most faster Pokemon that threaten Celebi. Pokemon that pressure Steel-types like Kommo-o, Mienshao, Infernape, and Moltres can give Celebi an easier chance to sweep late-game and simultaneously threaten a lot of specially defensive Pokemon. Fairy-type teammates are extremely beneficial to help check the Dark-types that can beat this set, such as Bisharp, Choice Scarf Hydreigon, and Mega Sharpedo. Mega Altaria and Primarina can usually beat these Pokemon one-on-one but should be careful of switching into them. Answers for powerful Flying-types such as Moltres and Mega Pidgeot that can OHKO Celebi are necessary. Mega Aerodactyl can outspeed and threaten every Flying-type with Stone Edge, while Rotom-H can handle most Flying-types with the exception of Mega Aerodactyl and spread status against opposing Dragon-types that switch into it. Justified users, primarily Terrakion and Cobalion, are helpful partners because they can gain free turns or a potential Attack boost if Celebi is Pursuit trapped or attempted to be revenge killed by Dark-types.
