  1. [11:38] The Rector allows the bard to ramble on, only a slight nod offered to confirm the grading.
  2.
  3. While she is speaking, though, the woman raises a hand and gives a small wave towards Astrid. There is no other gesture of acknowledgment for the kitsune, but she has definitely been spotted.
  4.
  5. When she has finished, a quick shake of the head is the first to come. "I wouldn't advise seeking out injured people, directly. That usually results in you not finding them.
  6.
  7. Which is good in its own way, I suppose."
  8.
  9. Then, with a quarter-spin, she looks around the room before resettling on Melody, hiding her mouth with a hand as she chuckles to herself.
  10.
  11. After a few moments, she answers. "You are in the cathedral."
  12. (Blaire Laeknir)
  13. [11:41] Melody imagined herself running up to strangers, asking if they were injured. The more she pictured this, the sillier she imagined it. It was very awkward to go asking everyone in town if they needed first aid, she realized. Melody's confidence likely came from this delayed realization of awkwardness.
  14.
  15. "R- Right! Yeah, maybe I'll just hang around the slums for a while, then. There's always a fight going on. People can't get along."
  16.
  17. She said with a bit of a chuckle, even though the political state of Sudbury was definitely nothing to laugh about.
  18.
  19. When Blaire answered her geographical question, Melody looked around herself, then back at her teacher, and smiled.
  20.
  21. "Wow, easy to find!"
  22.
  23. She snickered, then looked at her note sheet out of mild embarrassment.
  24. (Melody)
  25. [11:46] Blaire nods, smiling- a thin, yet sincere expression.
  26.
  27. "That would likely work far better than either of us would prefer.
  28.
  29. The library is behind the only other door in this wing, discounting if you go up the staircase. It is a rather large room, so it takes a good portion of this side of the building."
  30.
  31. Another glance around the room, gaze roaming, before she settles on Melody again. "If you are unable to locate me, I am Rector Blaire Laeknir. Stars with you, and the best of lucks with your studies."
  32.
  33. With that, she turns to look out the window, the lesson over for now- lest Melody had anything else she wished to add.
  34. (Blaire Laeknir)
  35. [11:51] Melody noted these things down as well. The location of the library, her teacher's name, everything from today's lesson was recorded on her messy note-sheet. It looked like it was hard to follow, though that was fine. Melody had a plan for once class was over anyway.
  36.
  37. "My name's Melody! Uh... Bard Melody. Melody the bard!"
  38.
  39. She was just being silly now, though she stood up and collected the papers as though she was about to leave.
  40.
  41. "I'll get right on this, then. It looks like I'm going to have a lot of reading to do."
  42.
  43. While she was enthusiastic, the thought of reading for the whole day did make Melody feel like she was ready for a nap. She figured she could at least look at the first book today.
  44.
  45. "Thank you for your help, I really appreciate it."
  46.
  47. She said to her teacher, drawing her harp and strumming a pleasant tune for her, somewhat of a 'thank-you' fanfare.
  48.
  49. "Um,I'll come find you when I've finished these books."
  50. (Melody)
  51. [11:52] It had been only a small increment of time for when Astrid wandered back towards the Church. The plethora of donations were spotted and disregarded just as quickly as she'd arrived, opting to wander about the vicinity's interior in search of the woman she was supposed to have learned from previously.
  52.
  53. However, in the lack of Blaire's presence, the Kitsune continued to search, even if the endeavor to find this medical professor would be fruitless- but it's the last room she comes upon with where the woman is found, greeting her with naught but a wave in return to the gesture of acknowledgement already made upon Astrid's arrival.
  54.
  55. And so, the girl strides, trekking upon the stairway there in order to get closer to the woman, though not finding any speech slipping out just yet as the two discussing come to a close with their conversation.
  56.
  57. In the meanwhile, she could be seen merely inspecting those claws of hers or swishing around just the slightest bit of slender hydromancy until addressed, waiting impatiently there.
  58. (Astrid)
  59. [11:58] "Stars with you, Melody the Bard."
  60.
  61. It pays to humour people, at times.
  62.
  63. Then, she remains stoic, giving the felinid plenty of time to depart the room, before finally looking towards Astrid.
  64.
  65. "Hello. Are you feeling any better, after Sain's...ah. Little joke, I believe?"
  66. (Blaire Laeknir)
  67. [12:09] With watching the Felinae departing, Astrid comes forth from her lean against the railing, unconsciously settled with her arms half-way crossed.
  68.
  69. The girl lacked Nero's cloak upon her person, allowing it to reveal the bandaged right hand, wraps that extend mid-way of the Kitsune's forearm. Should any come closer towards that appendage, they would find a palpable frost emitting from the limb, still recovering from another mage's bite. Cold below the exterior, and quite numb still; lacking half of its strength.
  70.
  71. Frostbite, at that. Well versed by the inflictor as she'd been incapable of manipulating the control over temperature within her body yet.
  72.
  73. "Much better, I should say. Thank you for asking. You are sister Blaire, right? As Sain had addressed you? I don't believe you ever got mine- it's Astrid." A light dip of her head as arms uncross and settle at her sides.
  74.
  75. "Sorry about that whole situation. He told me it was a learning enhancer. Didn't know about it otherwise- Nero explained to me what it.. well, enhanced.." A brief pause.
  76.
  77. "And it wasn't my learning." A light huffed laugh there, and she disregards the ordeal with a simple wave of her hand. "I came back searching for you for help in the medical field again, if you wouldn't mind the lesson still despite what happened."
  78. (Astrid)
  79. [12:12] Though the conversation was opened with talk of the previous event, the Rector only responds to it with a single nod before moving to business.
  80.
  81. "It is quite alright. I spoke to Sain afterwards, though I doubt he gave my suggestions much credence.
  82.
  83. Anyhow. Please begin by telling me what you already know of medicine."
  84.
  85. Then, a gesture towards Astrid for her to begin.
  86.
  87. It certainly seems she does not mind the lesson, despite the previous events.
  88. (Blaire Laeknir)
  89. [12:26] A dip of her head is all the Kitsune gives in response to the talk with Sain. She hadn't known of what suggestion is was, but the girl wouldn't pry on it either.
  90.
  91. Instead, she goes along with the inquiry to answer;
  92.
  93. "Suturing is all I know about right now. I read a book on it that I borrowed from the Church's Library." She had put them back thereafter being potted, and when Nero dragged her away from the scene in private to the Library.
  94.
  95. "How to close that wound with thread, needles, and mend the flesh together with water magic afterward to make the process quicker and easier." Another dip of Astrid's head gives affirmation of that knowledge, if only to confirm it with recent study.
  96.
  97. "And.. the last thing I know is how to help heal frostbitten wounds and burn injuries with some type of ointment that Nerin used on me." Gesturing her arm outward, it'd seem the limb had a bit of chill along it, hiding away the pale blue hues of her still healing skin.
  98.
  99. "That's about all I know."
  100. (Astrid)
  101. [12:40] "Ah, I see. Then we will begin with first-aid. Knowing how to create a stitch is very important, yet, you are not at the stage where you can truly use that knowledge effectively.
  102.
  103. First-aid is, colloquially, a term used to refer to aid given to a wounded individual afore they have seen a doctor.
  104.
  105. Those actions which most commonly fall under its grasp- those are, cleaning a wounded site, and wrapping it in bandaging- are near-always used once treatment has been administered.
  106.
  107. We will begin with a proper method to clean open wounds."
  108.
  109. On the table behind her is a clear bottle, along with two piles of used gauze and one roll of gauze. Reaching back, she collects the bottle, and holds it up.
  110.
  111. "This is an alcoholic solution. It is not safe to drink in large quantities, though I would advise not drinking it in small ones, either.
  112.
  113. You would pour an amount of this onto a clean rag, then run the rag over the wound to clear away as much debrisas possible, while also sterilizing the site.
  114.
  115. Then you would wash it with water- in your case, guided by magic, before drying the site as best possible.
  116.
  117. This accomplished, and under the assumption that it is a wound which requires no further attention, the next step would be to bind the area in bandage."
  118.
  119. Placing the bottle back behind her, the Rector's sapphire gaze bores into her. It certainly seems like professor is a fitting title for her.
  120.
  121. "Do you have any questions before we move on?"
  122. (Blaire Laeknir)
  123. [12:46] Cleaning wounds. That sounded easy, no? Pertaining to aquatic uses of the Kitsune's prowess, that is all she oft utilizes for such should it be necessary; Nero's wound had been cleaned up in that manner.
  124.
  125. Although, the additional advices bestowed to Astrid about the procedure grasp her attentive nature as silver eyes lurk about towards the container of alcohol atop the table, sitting near an abundance of gauzes both used and not.
  126.
  127. Dips of Astrid's head are made in appropriate areas throughout Blaire's teaching, ensuring the woman that the Kitsune is entirely gripped on the subject, all mentally noted.
  128.
  129. "None right now so far," Astrid replies as her eyes glance between the objects present. "Good to continue."
  130. (Astrid)
  131. [12:53] With the assurance that Astrid is ready to continue, Blaire nods as she retrieves the roll of gauze behind her.
  132.
  133. Displaying it, she draws out a length of it and holds it taut.
  134.
  135. "This is gauze. Its purpose is wrapping bandages, among other uses.
  136.
  137. When you are binding a wound, you want to make certain that you are applying it tight enough so that the bandaging will not be loose, but not so tight as to constrict motion and circulation.
  138.
  139. In lieu of alternative methods to hold it together, the ends of the gauze are commonly tied into a knot.
  140.
  141. If you would like me to demonstrate a proper way to bind a bandage, please hold out a bare arm. Otherwise, I will allow you to attempt to wrap a bandage across my arm."
  142.
  143. Her arms lower before herself as her head tilts to the side.
  144.
  145. "Additionally, do you have any questions?"
  146. (Blaire Laeknir)
  147. [13:02] More dips of Astrid's had are made to reassure Blaire that she still has the Kitsune's attention. Noted mentally, still, she views the gauze held within her grasp.
  148.
  149. "None so far still," Astrid says as she holds out her right appendage. "Although, I have seen the gauze be wrapped before." It was that arm, wrapped mid-way upon the forearm and the entire hand itself, that was covered with an abundance of gauze to protect and coat it with ointment below- likely in need of a change.
  150.
  151. "But a demonstration, and an attempt would be fine then if you wouldn't mind." It was an easy thing to do regardless, however, to ensure that Astrid had the grip and perfection of the simple task, she wanted to watch Blaire reproduce the step in order for Astrid to follow thereafter.
  152.
  153. And so, the Kitsune opts to gingerly remove the bandages on her right arm and hand, revealing the discolored flesh below that wafted with palpable frost from another's infliction. No longer worrisome, however. The former verglas was not present, albeit the digits were still difficult to move, numbed to a certain point, though still able to be slowly flexible should she shift them.
  154.
  155. "Just to be sure I can perfect it, and with your confirmation."
  156. (Astrid)
  157. [13:10] Yet again, a single nod is all that Blaire offers in response.
  158.
  159. When the kitsune removes her old bandages, it is absolutely clear they should be replaced.
  160.
  161. "Watch closely." Is the only indication that she is to be begin, and then she is a flurry of motion.
  162.
  163. In under a minute, she has used an alcohol covered rag to wipe away any remaining ointment or other debris, followed by washing, then gently drying the frozen site.
  164.
  165. This is even further followed with some form of salve which she smears over the entirety of the area, and only then does she take up the gauze.
  166.
  167. With dexterous, clearly practiced motions, the woman wraps her arm- before tying it off with a firm knot.
  168.
  169. Should she move her arm around, she would discover that it doesn't limit mobility, or constrict uncomfortably- not more than the already present injury, at the least.
  170.
  171. "Examine the bandage, and ask any questions about the process, should you have any.
  172.
  173. When you are ready, you may attempt to bind my arm." At that, she produces a fresh roll of gauze, and holds it towards Astrid. When it is taken, she rolls up her right sleeve, and presents her arm to the kitsune.
  174. (Blaire Laeknir)
  175. [13:26] And watch closely she does, taking view as the debris of former ointments are showered away, cleansed, and dried up, only for a new layer to be sprawled along the hand and forearm itself. With that to follow, wraps are redone, tied off, and much more comfortable than they used to be, allowing a bit more flexibility and strength due to the newly acquired layer of salve added. The tingling is akin to that of dipping one's hand in hot water after being in the cold weather for so long. Relaxing in that sensation if anything.
  176.
  177. Her fingers flex, although the stiffness doesn't waver off- remaining indefinitely until she's likely able to perfect the technique of the magus who'd inflicted this damage upon her. It would assist the Kitsune in the perfection of temperature manipulation ultimately, allowing Astrid to return the arm to its former bodily temperature.
  178.
  179. "..Thank you, for more salve. The tingling and feeling of the arm are still returning."She says, huffing out a single, vague laugh. "Just have to learn more about.. ice magic," she mumbles. And then...
  180.
  181. As the gauze is taken in the Kitsune's grip, she opts to unroll it and mimic the doctor's practice. Perhaps a bit too loose in some areas, or too tight, though still enough that one could move their appendage regardless with little discomfort present.
  182.
  183. And, as Astrid comes to the end of the roll, the ends are joined together in a double knot for certain that it would not come undone. "How is that?"
  184. (Astrid)
  185. [13:40] As surely to be expected by now, Astrid's thanks and explanation are simply met with a nod. "You're welcome." Only to return to silence.
  186.
  187. While the kitsune is wrapping her arm, it is quite clear that Blaire is examining critically each and every motion and movement Astrid makes, yes she does not bring words to bear so, assumably, she is doing well, yes?
  188.
  189. Though the sheer stoicness of the woman's face is, perhaps, cause for anxiety, would she be the anxious sort.
  190.
  191. As the bandage is tied around her arm, she withdraws it, and moves it around, examining it in its entirety.
  192.
  193. After nearly a minute of this, she looks to Astrid with a wry smile on her lips. "This is sufficient. As you can see here-" She points out an area that is more tightly bound. "-there is an amount of constriction here. That is less to worry about, so long as it is the state of the minority, not the majority.
  194.
  195. This, however-" She gestures towards a different segment, towards the ends, where the wrap is visibly loose, then she shifts it around with her free hand. "-is something to be avoided.
  196.
  197. Looseness, in particular, will result in chafing, which is horribly uncomfortable, and possibly able to cause blood, may result in debris and other infectants entering the wounded, bandaged site, and easily could have the bandage caught and torn off.
  198.
  199. It is, however, overall good. You just require practice."
  200.
  201. Following this, she unbinds her own mock-bandage with a quick flourish of her fingers, piling the gauze on the table behind her.
  202.
  203. Then, pulling out a notepad and pointed pen, she quickly jots a few things down, before removing a slip of paper and holding it to Astrid.
  204.
  205. "That is a list of books you can find in the cathedral library. I suggest you read them each, as they will help to provide you with an understanding of the body.
  206.
  207. Do you have any questions, Astrid?"
  208. (Blaire Laeknir)
  209. [13:51] With only able to utilize half of the strength in her right hand, it was reasonable that some areas of the practice were likely not perfect. Regardless, that advice is heeded and still noted within her temple.
  210.
  211. Astrid was one to grow anxious, though not much as of late. The information gained from why each wrongdoing of too tight or too loose gauze was beneficial, allowing her the knowledge of repercussions should she mess up on a true patient.
  212.
  213. And by now, Astrid merely spectated the removal of those bandages and scribbling on pad, like a prescription, in order to prompt the girl away for a collection of materials to learn about human anatomy.
  214.
  215. With a shake of her head, the girl speaks, "No any that I know of. I went through and collected a few of these books just the other day, actually. Except, some were extra, like how to suture and close wounds up. So, I'll re-collect them and study, come back to you, and, well.. have you do whatever to show you what I've learned."
  216.
  217. Following those words is an offered smile and nod from Astrid as she gingerly tucks away the piece of paper in a pocket at the side of her azure kimono dress.
  218.
  219. "What else, other than these, would you recommend I could do for physical practice if I believe I've learned enough? Nero allowed me to operate on him for the suture practice."
  220. (Astrid)
  221. [13:59] "Physical practice would be helping treat actual patients that have been wounded. Assisting other doctors, for example. Or, of course, seeing if you have friends who are willing to help you practice.
  222.
  223. That is the best recommendation I can provide for obtaining medical experience.
  224.
  225. If you come across an injured person, you are free to bring them here, so long as they wish for treatment, and I will see to them- while allowing you to assist me."
  226.
  227. She takes a brief pause, putting away the various unused supplies, and allowing an acolyte to take and dispose of the used gauze.
  228.
  229. "That, I believe, will be a suitable end to this lesson. Stars with you, Astrid. I wish the best of luck in your studies."
  230.
  231. Following that dismissal, the Rector bows to Astrid, implying that unless the kitsune would like anything else, now would be a non-awkward time to depart.
  232. (Blaire Laeknir)
  233. [14:02] "Stars to you as well, sister Blaire." That was the formal, or appropriate, way she'd heard this particular one addressed, and so Astrid would call her by the same formality. "Thank you for the lesson." The Kitsune dips her head, offering another smile before she is dismissed to depart.
  234.
  235. And so, Astrid would, aiming to collect the pile of literature later after obtaining potions with Nero, should he still need some.
  236. (Astrid)
