  1. [20:42] <Faerzen_Norstov> VV: Greetings, Lyra.
  2. [20:42] <Faerzen_Norstov> VV: I will not bother saying too much at that present because I still have yet to show my identity and the fact that I am currently uninfluenced.
  3. [20:42] <Faerzen_Norstov> VV: I had a great deal of time sensitive matters on my plate to deal with the past several hours, but I am currently free of them.
  4. [20:42] <Faerzen_Norstov> VV: I am able to use the smartWall in my den to set up live video communications if that would be sufficient.
  5. [20:42] <Faerzen_Norstov> VV: I would prefer to not have to fly all the way to your present location as I am in the middle of working on a project in my workshop.
  6. [20:42] <Faerzen_Norstov> VV: Are you available at the present to have a proper talk?
  7. [20:43] <Alexander_Pyrite> SM: yeah video chat sounds cool
  8. [20:43] <Alexander_Pyrite> "LYRA! COME OVER HERE"
  9. [20:43] <Alexander_Pyrite> "wait shit she cant hear me"
  10. [20:43] <Faerzen_Norstov> VV: Excellent. I will get the equipment set up on my end. Do you have a mechanism available to view my video feed?
  11. [20:44] <Alexander_Pyrite> SM: yeah i think so
  12. [20:44] * Alexander_Pyrite grabs a computer and shows lyra the messages
  13. [20:45] * Lyra_Bel brings her laptop from her strife deck
  14. [20:45] <Lyra_Bel> SM: Alright. Ready.
  15. [20:45] <Lyra_Bel> SM: Let's see what you've got.
  16. [20:46] * Alexander_Pyrite leans over lyra shoulder to watch
  17. [20:46] <Faerzen_Norstov> VV: Do you have a video or audio feed?
  18. [20:46] * Lyra_Bel shifts to let him sit beside
  19. [20:46] <Lyra_Bel> SM: Yes
  20. [20:46] * Faerzen_Norstov presses several buttons on his coffee table to activate the video communications feature
  21. [20:46] * Lyra_Bel accepts video chat request
  22. [20:46] * Faerzen_Norstov walks down the stairs into the workshop and sets Abyss on the workbench.
  23. [20:47] <Faerzen_Norstov> *I will be back shortly.*
  24. [20:47] <Abyss> Can't you just... Leave me out of view of the camera or something?
  25. [20:47] * Faerzen_Norstov walks back upstairs and turns the camera and audio on, sitting in his favorite reclining armchair, wings spread on either side of him
  26. [20:47] <Faerzen_Norstov> *You will still be able to hear everything just fine from here. I want to be able to tell Lyra you are in the other room.*
  27. [20:47] <Faerzen_Norstov> Hello!
  28. [20:48] <Lyra_Bel> "Hey"
  29. [20:48] <Alexander_Pyrite> Hi!
  30. [20:48] <Faerzen_Norstov> Oh, I see you have Alex here as well.
  31. [20:48] <Faerzen_Norstov> Hello, Alex!
  32. [20:48] <Alexander_Pyrite> Yeah, hey faerzen
  33. [20:48] <Lyra_Bel> Roll 1d20-1 Insight to understand
  34. [20:48] <`DM> Lyra_Bel rolled 1d20-1 Insight to understand [ 1d20=8 ]{7}
  35. [20:48] <Faerzen_Norstov> Were the two of you able to find Brofessor?
  36. [20:48] <Lyra_Bel> ((Long sentences))
  37. [20:48] <Abyss> You can't hear each other or Faerzen
  38. [20:49] <Lyra_Bel> ((Lip reading you said was an Insight check))
  39. [20:49] <Abyss> This will be a mess lol
  40. [20:49] <Abyss> Yep
  41. [20:49] * Alexander_Pyrite looks confused
  42. [20:49] <Faerzen_Norstov> ((wait, what?))
  43. [20:49] <Abyss> DC 12
  44. [20:49] <Alexander_Pyrite> What?"
  45. [20:49] <Faerzen_Norstov> ((does the laptop not have speakers?))
  46. [20:49] <Alexander_Pyrite> roll 1d20-1
  47. [20:49] <`DM> Alexander_Pyrite rolled 1d20-1 [ 1d20=13 ]{12}
  48. [20:49] <Lyra_Bel> ((Insanity))
  49. [20:49] <Lyra_Bel> ((We're deaf now))
  50. [20:49] <Abyss> < They went deaf after Cave Excursion >
  51. [20:49] <Faerzen_Norstov> ((wow))
  52. [20:49] <Faerzen_Norstov> ((awkward))
  53. [20:49] <Alexander_Pyrite> "WE CANT HEAR YOU"
  54. [20:49] <Abyss> < Temporarily >
  55. [20:49] * Faerzen_Norstov looks puzzled
  56. [20:49] <Faerzen_Norstov> I can hear you, so the audio connection is established just fine. Let me check my audio and microphone settings.
  57. [20:50] <Lyra_Bel> "Not your fault"
  58. [20:50] * Faerzen_Norstov taps around on the coffee table
  59. [20:50] <Lyra_Bel> "Schizophrenia"
  60. [20:50] <Lyra_Bel> "Hallucinations"
  61. [20:50] <Alexander_Pyrite> WE'RE JUST INSANE DUDE DONT WORRY ABOUT IT
  62. [20:50] * Faerzen_Norstov looks back up at the screen
  63. [20:50] <Faerzen_Norstov> You don't have to yell, Alex! I can understand what you are saying just fine!
  64. [20:51] <Faerzen_Norstov> All of my audio setting seem to be functioning, and the microphone is picking up audio. I am not certain why you can't hear me. Is something wrong with your speakers?
  65. [20:51] <Alexander_Pyrite> roll 1d20-1
  66. [20:51] <`DM> Alexander_Pyrite rolled 1d20-1 [ 1d20=11 ]{10}
  67. [20:51] <Alexander_Pyrite> WHAT?
  68. [20:51] <Alexander_Pyrite> ‽*
  69. [20:51] <Lyra_Bel> Roll 1d20-1
  70. [20:51] <`DM> Lyra_Bel rolled 1d20-1 [ 1d20=2 ]{1}
  71. [20:51] * Lyra_Bel boggles vacantly at these shenanigans
  72. [20:52] <Faerzen_Norstov> YOUR. SPEAKERS.
  73. [20:52] <Alexander_Pyrite> roll 1d20-1
  74. [20:52] <`DM> Alexander_Pyrite rolled 1d20-1 [ 1d20=12 ]{11}
  75. [20:52] * Faerzen_Norstov speaks slowly, enunciating clearly
  76. [20:52] <Lyra_Bel> "Faerzen, stop."
  77. [20:52] <Lyra_Bel> "We can't hear you."
  78. [20:52] <Alexander_Pyrite> MY GEARS‽
  79. [20:52] <Lyra_Bel> "Open a memo in another window"
  80. [20:52] * Faerzen_Norstov frowns, pulling open his chat client on his glasses
  81. [20:53] <visceralVanguard> Is this better?
  82. [20:53] * snuffshotMartyr [SM] has opened memo on board Big Bowl of Crazy Flakes
  83. [20:53] * Alexander_Pyrite grabs another computer
  84. [20:53] <snuffshotMartyr> That'll work
  85. [20:53] <visceralVanguard> Is something amiss with your speakers?
  86. [20:53] <unmotivatedMeatshield> Sorry about the yelling, we're both deaf
  87. [20:53] <visceralVanguard> I was saying that everything checks out on my end in terms of audio connection.
  88. [20:53] <visceralVanguard> DEAF?
  89. [20:53] <visceralVanguard> Oh no!
  90. [20:53] <visceralVanguard> How did that happen?
  91. [20:53] * visceralVanguard sighs
  92. [20:54] <unmotivatedMeatshield> guess
  93. [20:54] <visceralVanguard> Some horrible monster came and ripped out your eardrums.
  94. [20:54] <snuffshotMartyr> Heh
  95. [20:54] <unmotivatedMeatshield> no
  96. [20:54] <snuffshotMartyr> Nah, just more schizo stuff
  97. [20:55] <visceralVanguard> How is being deaf related to that?
  98. [20:55] <snuffshotMartyr> It's hallucinatory
  99. [20:55] * visceralVanguard makes a :/ face
  100. [20:55] <unmotivatedMeatshield> ((can we hear ambient sound, just not voices?))
  101. [20:56] <snuffshotMartyr> Look, this isn't important
  102. [20:56] <unmotivatedMeatshield> ish
  103. [20:56] <Abyss> < No >
  104. [20:56] <snuffshotMartyr> We'll be fine
  105. [20:56] <Abyss> < Deaf >
  106. [20:56] <snuffshotMartyr> Eventually
  107. [20:56] <visceralVanguard> Were you able to find your shield?
  108. [20:57] <unmotivatedMeatshield> No hes buried under some rocks
  109. [20:57] <snuffshotMartyr> We're working on it
  110. [20:57] <visceralVanguard> I would offer to send you something to help, but you do not have an alchemiter, so I think I would be of limited assistance.
  111. [20:58] <snuffshotMartyr> Yeah we do
  112. [20:58] <snuffshotMartyr> It's right outside
  113. [20:58] <snuffshotMartyr> It was like right there during the whole trial mess
  114. [20:59] <unmotivatedMeatshield> I dont have any grist though
  115. [20:59] <snuffshotMartyr> It'll wear off
  116. [20:59] <snuffshotMartyr> No point wasting grist
  117. [21:00] <snuffshotMartyr> This isn't relevant to the topic at hand though
  118. [21:01] <visceralVanguard> Oh you are at home now?
  119. [21:01] <visceralVanguard> Very well.
  120. [21:01] <visceralVanguard> If I come across anything that could be of assistance, I shall send the code your way.
  121. [21:01] <visceralVanguard> Maybe you will find some grist somewhere.
  122. [21:01] <visceralVanguard> Grist has an odd way of cropping up sometimes.
  123. [21:02] <visceralVanguard> I agree that this is one of the less pressing matters at the moment though.
  124. [21:03] <snuffshotMartyr> Eeyup
  125. [21:03] <visceralVanguard> As you can see, I am still here in the flesh, fine and unharmed.
  126. [21:03] <snuffshotMartyr> Yeah, YOU are
  127. [21:03] <visceralVanguard> I went on a picnic earlier with Nick, and we cooked some lamb chops.
  128. [21:03] <snuffshotMartyr> Is Nick still alive?
  129. [21:03] <visceralVanguard> Yes.
  130. [21:03] <snuffshotMartyr> Unharmed?
  131. [21:03] <visceralVanguard> He decided to take a nap upstairs.
  132. [21:03] <snuffshotMartyr> Decided in what sense?
  133. [21:03] <visceralVanguard> Nick is also entirely fine.
  134. [21:04] <visceralVanguard> Decided as in, "I am sleepy and I want to go to Prospit"
  135. [21:04] <snuffshotMartyr> Alright
  136. [21:04] <snuffshotMartyr> Did you tell him yet?
  137. [21:04] <visceralVanguard> He had quite a time marveling at the technologies of modern showers, and then he was sleepy.
  138. [21:04] <visceralVanguard> Tell him that I have Abyss?
  139. [21:04] <visceralVanguard> Yes, I did.
  140. [21:04] <snuffshotMartyr> Not quite that part
  141. [21:04] <visceralVanguard> We talked quite at length about it.
  142. [21:04] <snuffshotMartyr> More the 'gave Carl permission to kill him' thing
  143. [21:05] * unmotivatedMeatshield watches silently
  144. [21:05] <visceralVanguard> I did not use those exact words because that is not what I did.
  145. [21:06] <visceralVanguard> I told him that Abyss promised not to hurt me, but I did not tell him that he could not be badgered into promising not to hurt an alternate version of a person who likely tormented him for a week.
  146. [21:06] <snuffshotMartyr> Yeah
  147. [21:06] <snuffshotMartyr> That poor mask
  148. [21:06] <visceralVanguard> I told Nick that Abyss is under no contractual obligations at the moment.
  149. [21:06] <visceralVanguard> He may do as he wish.
  150. [21:06] <snuffshotMartyr> Lovely
  151. [21:06] <visceralVanguard> Nick, understandably, was quite anxious.
  152. [21:07] <snuffshotMartyr> As anyone should be
  153. [21:07] <visceralVanguard> However, he believes that the arrangement we have set up is better than any of the alternatives discussed at the trial.
  154. [21:07] <snuffshotMartyr> So he'd rather be vulnerable than not?
  155. [21:07] <visceralVanguard> He and Abyss talked briefly but it was very awkward.
  156. [21:08] <snuffshotMartyr> Welp
  157. [21:08] <snuffshotMartyr> Least I guessed right
  158. [21:08] <visceralVanguard> Nick explicitly told me that the entire time he had the mask, the mask never made him do anything.
  159. [21:08] <snuffshotMartyr> Was this before or after getting exposed to it?
  160. [21:08] <visceralVanguard> Both.
  161. [21:09] <snuffshotMartyr> I see
  162. [21:10] <snuffshotMartyr> Is there anything else you wanted?
  163. [21:10] <visceralVanguard> Yes.
  164. [21:10] <visceralVanguard> There are two primary things.
  165. [21:10] <snuffshotMartyr> I don't WANT to say 'no and no'...
  166. [21:10] <visceralVanguard> I know you might shrug them off as unimportant or unpleasant, but please bear with me.
  167. [21:11] <visceralVanguard> Hopefully they are not too terribly weighty topics.
  168. [21:11] <visceralVanguard> The first thing I want to say is this:
  169. [21:11] <visceralVanguard> "I am sorry."
  170. [21:11] <visceralVanguard> At the trial, I was ruthless.
  171. [21:11] <snuffshotMartyr> What?
  172. [21:11] * unmotivatedMeatshield sits up a bit straighter and scratches the back of his head
  173. [21:12] <visceralVanguard> I still stand by the case we made, the decisions I made, and the agreements we came to
  174. [21:12] <visceralVanguard> However, I tore you apart during those whole proceedings.
  175. [21:12] <snuffshotMartyr> ??
  176. [21:12] <visceralVanguard> I may not have shown it as much as I was feeling it, but I was enjoying it.
  177. [21:12] <snuffshotMartyr> What are you talking about?
  178. [21:12] <unmotivatedMeatshield> whoa
  179. [21:12] <visceralVanguard> Everything I said at the court
  180. [21:12] <snuffshotMartyr> Remind me?
  181. [21:12] <snuffshotMartyr> I wasn't paying attention
  182. [21:12] * snuffshotMartyr cracks a grin
  183. [21:13] <visceralVanguard> About your schizophrenia, about your suicidal tendencies, about your sociopathy, about your painful interactions with others, about your time with Reggie
  184. [21:13] <snuffshotMartyr> Okay?
  185. [21:13] <visceralVanguard> I enjoyed pulling it all out in the open and exposing it.
  186. [21:13] <unmotivatedMeatshield> So you enjoyed being a lawyer?
  187. [21:13] <snuffshotMartyr> Uh
  188. [21:13] <visceralVanguard> No.
  189. [21:13] <unmotivatedMeatshield> Oh
  190. [21:13] <visceralVanguard> While constructing a logical argument and arguing my case was invigorating, it was tearing Lyra apart in front of everything that enjoyed.
  191. [21:14] <snuffshotMartyr> ...
  192. [21:14] <snuffshotMartyr> Dude
  193. [21:14] <snuffshotMartyr> Seriously?
  194. [21:14] <visceralVanguard> While I think that many of the things we proved were correct, I went overboard for our case.
  195. [21:14] <snuffshotMartyr> You did not 'tear me apart'
  196. [21:14] <snuffshotMartyr> Don't flatter yourself
  197. [21:14] <snuffshotMartyr> You rattled off a list, most of them points I already made before
  198. [21:14] <visceralVanguard> I could have easily proved our case with much less graphic evidence and strong language.
  199. [21:14] <visceralVanguard> You know that.
  200. [21:14] <snuffshotMartyr> Like taking candy from a baby that is literally handing you their candy.
  201. [21:14] <visceralVanguard> I chose to go deeper just for fun.
  202. [21:15] <snuffshotMartyr> Not following
  203. [21:15] <snuffshotMartyr> At what point did you actually 'go deep'?
  204. [21:15] <snuffshotMartyr> Because that whole thing was stuff I'd already been talking about
  205. [21:15] <visceralVanguard> Okay, Lyra, we do not need to get into this.
  206. [21:16] <snuffshotMartyr> Y'know, I think we might
  207. [21:16] <visceralVanguard> You not entirely comprehending how emotionally damaging some things can be is precisely one of the things brought up in the case.
  208. [21:16] <snuffshotMartyr> You're talking about emotionally damaging ME, though
  209. [21:16] <snuffshotMartyr> I'm at least 90% sure nothing you said scarred me emotionally
  210. [21:17] <visceralVanguard> Because of what the two of us brought up in court, Alex collapsed, Abyss was brought to tears, Reggie was brought to tears, and even Regent was put off by the whole proceedings.
  211. [21:17] <visceralVanguard> I never said my apology was addressed only to you, Lyra.
  212. [21:17] <visceralVanguard> I am apologizing to Alex too.
  213. [21:17] <unmotivatedMeatshield> wait why
  214. [21:18] <snuffshotMartyr> Regent was put off because of what I said to him
  215. [21:18] <visceralVanguard> You were quite literally a passersby who happened to drop in to the case, and yet we still went into as much depth as we did.
  216. [21:18] <visceralVanguard> Surely you cannot deny that what was said did not negatively affect you. You quite literally collapsed!
  217. [21:18] <unmotivatedMeatshield> I mean lyra is, uh
  218. [21:19] <unmotivatedMeatshield> yeah well thats because im a little bitch
  219. [21:19] <unmotivatedMeatshield> not your fault dude
  220. [21:19] * snuffshotMartyr laughs
  221. [21:19] <snuffshotMartyr> I think that's the first time anyone but me's been called that
  222. [21:19] <unmotivatedMeatshield> a little bitch?
  223. [21:19] <snuffshotMartyr> Eeyup
  224. [21:20] <unmotivatedMeatshield> you're not a little bitch, you're fucking metal
  225. [21:20] <snuffshotMartyr> Tell that to the queen
  226. [21:20] <snuffshotMartyr> And whichever Regents, I don't even remember
  227. [21:20] <unmotivatedMeatshield> youve gone insane more times than fucking...
  228. [21:20] <unmotivatedMeatshield> a mental patient
  229. [21:20] <visceralVanguard> I'm not saying that everything I did in that trial was an overdramatic show that didn't need to be done and everyone is now permanently emotionally scarred by it. What I am saying is that I chose to make the trial more gruesome and uncomfortable than it had to be because I was having fun doing it, and that was selfish of me.
  230. [21:20] <unmotivatedMeatshield> that goes insane alot
  231. [21:20] <visceralVanguard> I want you to know that I am sorry for that, and that I do not necessarily believe you are the horrible dark twisted monster I sometimes tried to paint you to be.
  232. [21:20] <snuffshotMartyr> Faerzen
  233. [21:21] <snuffshotMartyr> Stop
  234. [21:21] <unmotivatedMeatshield> Yes stop
  235. [21:21] <visceralVanguard> That is all I have to say on the matter, so I will stop.
  236. [21:21] <snuffshotMartyr> First of all, there was a lot worse stuff that could have been said
  237. [21:21] <visceralVanguard> Of course.
  238. [21:21] <snuffshotMartyr> Most of that was part of my quaternary plans, but I digress
  239. [21:22] <snuffshotMartyr> Secondly, why on Earth would I think you believed the image you were setting up?
  240. [21:22] <snuffshotMartyr> Come on dude. It's a trial
  241. [21:22] <snuffshotMartyr> It's kind of your entire JOB to make me look bad
  242. [21:22] <visceralVanguard> Correct.
  243. [21:22] <unmotivatedMeatshield> it was his job
  244. [21:23] <snuffshotMartyr> Why would I be mad at you for doing the same thing I was doing?
  245. [21:23] <visceralVanguard> I never said you would be mad.
  246. [21:23] <snuffshotMartyr> Whatever
  247. [21:23] <visceralVanguard> I felt bad about something and I wanted to make sure we were all on the same page, so I apologized and clarified.
  248. [21:23] <snuffshotMartyr> Well then why feel bad?
  249. [21:23] <visceralVanguard> If you feel all of that is unnecessary, then fine.
  250. [21:23] <snuffshotMartyr> S'like
  251. [21:24] <snuffshotMartyr> If I were to track mud on your carpets while you're playing with a hose in the living room
  252. [21:24] <snuffshotMartyr> And some dirt with the hose, I guess
  253. [21:24] <unmotivatedMeatshield> damn thats a good analogy
  254. [21:24] <snuffshotMartyr> Darn right it is
  255. [21:25] <visceralVanguard> Just because the repercussions of my actions were not terribly significant does not mean I cannot feel you should be entitled to know my motives behind them.
  256. [21:25] <snuffshotMartyr> You were trying to make me look bad
  257. [21:25] <snuffshotMartyr> Because that's the plan we ended up going with
  258. [21:25] <visceralVanguard> Yes.
  259. [21:25] <visceralVanguard> We left on such a sour note that I wanted to ensure we were still on the same page.
  260. [21:26] <snuffshotMartyr> Carl's not in the room with you?
  261. [21:26] <visceralVanguard> No.
  262. [21:26] <snuffshotMartyr> What about the Reg brigade?
  263. [21:26] <visceralVanguard> They are upstairs.
  264. [21:26] <snuffshotMartyr> Yes or no, please. I don't know if you're also upstairs or not.
  265. [21:26] <visceralVanguard> No, they are two floors above me.
  266. [21:26] <snuffshotMartyr> Alrighty then
  267. [21:27] <snuffshotMartyr> Promise none of this info gets leaked to any of them?
  268. [21:27] <visceralVanguard> I will not speak a word of what you say to them.
  269. [21:27] <visceralVanguard> Or in Regent's case, write.
  270. [21:27] <snuffshotMartyr> I mean, they'll steal it anyway, but I wanna pretend that promises still hold meaning
  271. [21:28] <visceralVanguard> What is the matter?
  272. [21:28] <snuffshotMartyr> Okay then.
  273. [21:28] <snuffshotMartyr> Dude
  274. [21:28] <snuffshotMartyr> I ain't mad at you
  275. [21:28] <visceralVanguard> I am glad to hear that.
  276. [21:28] <snuffshotMartyr> I mean, a little bit ticked that we jumped straight to plan C
  277. [21:28] <snuffshotMartyr> Heh
  278. [21:29] <snuffshotMartyr> I had this whole rant planned out for confronting you about that part
  279. [21:29] <visceralVanguard> I expected that.
  280. [21:29] <snuffshotMartyr> And I expected it to be rendered moot
  281. [21:29] <snuffshotMartyr> That's actually why I thought it up
  282. [21:30] <snuffshotMartyr> Can't come true if I have a plan for it, right/
  283. [21:30] <snuffshotMartyr> ?
  284. [21:30] * visceralVanguard smirks
  285. [21:30] <snuffshotMartyr> But in all seriousness
  286. [21:30] <snuffshotMartyr> It was pretty hypocritical
  287. [21:31] <visceralVanguard> <no response>
  288. [21:31] <snuffshotMartyr> I mean come on
  289. [21:32] <snuffshotMartyr> After the whole "don't crash the boat" intervention?
  290. [21:33] <unmotivatedMeatshield> What
  291. [21:33] <visceralVanguard> I am afraid I do not follow.
  292. [21:33] <snuffshotMartyr> After I threw you through the gate
  293. [21:33] <visceralVanguard> What intervention?
  294. [21:34] <snuffshotMartyr> Reggie made me visit Faerzen
  295. [21:34] <snuffshotMartyr> We talked about means of advancing
  296. [21:34] <snuffshotMartyr> A boat surrounded by icebergs
  297. [21:34] <snuffshotMartyr> You either crash it and hope you get out, or you try and plot a map
  298. [21:35] <visceralVanguard> Correct.
  299. [21:35] <visceralVanguard> We did have that discussion.
  300. [21:35] <snuffshotMartyr> Plan C was to stand still and let it sink
  301. [21:35] <snuffshotMartyr> You took the option that slowed but didn't stop anything
  302. [21:36] <snuffshotMartyr> Me being free doesn't change anything. Carl being gone? That'd change something.
  303. [21:36] <snuffshotMartyr> I had plans, Faerzen
  304. [21:36] <snuffshotMartyr> Ways to get us out of there
  305. [21:36] <snuffshotMartyr> Some better than others, some bad to the point of having a hurricane rework the map and us hoping he put the boat back down in one piece.
  306. [21:37] <unmotivatedMeatshield> what was the hurricane
  307. [21:37] <snuffshotMartyr> Nick
  308. [21:37] <snuffshotMartyr> Maskwraith
  309. [21:37] <unmotivatedMeatshield> ah
  310. [21:37] <snuffshotMartyr> That was plan E
  311. [21:37] <visceralVanguard> You may have plans, Lyra, but I find it difficult that you expect everyone to comply with your plans when you tell other people next to nothing about what they are.
  312. [21:38] <snuffshotMartyr> You don't need to comply!
  313. [21:38] <snuffshotMartyr> I can't work with people, why would I plan anything that involved needing help?
  314. [21:39] <visceralVanguard> Clearly it did need cooperation if you are frustrated at me for doing something counter to them.
  315. [21:39] <snuffshotMartyr> "Cooperation" in the sense of not letting you hijack the trial, maybe
  316. [21:40] <snuffshotMartyr> There were ways we could have come out ahead, instead of just minimizing our losses
  317. [21:40] <snuffshotMartyr> But no, those have risks, and we can't have that!
  318. [21:40] <visceralVanguard> I still do not see how I could have been expected to let you have your way with the trial in the hopes that some mysterious black box plan would work.
  319. [21:40] <visceralVanguard> If you want my cooperation, you can't just keep me in the dark, Lyra!
  320. [21:41] <snuffshotMartyr> I told you exactly what I wanted done!
  321. [21:41] <visceralVanguard> I am not trying to work against you, but if I don't know what you're working on, I can't work for you either.
  322. [21:41] <snuffshotMartyr> I told you exactly what I wanted done!
  323. [21:41] <visceralVanguard> I still do not see the problem here.
  324. [21:42] <snuffshotMartyr> The problem is that you accepted the loss with a smile
  325. [21:42] <visceralVanguard> What loss?
  326. [21:42] <snuffshotMartyr> Insanity plea
  327. [21:42] <visceralVanguard> How is that a loss?
  328. [21:42] <snuffshotMartyr> How is it a win?
  329. [21:42] <visceralVanguard> Your soul does not get consumed and we still retain amicable relations with Abyss so we can form another more beneficial agreement in the future.
  330. [21:43] <snuffshotMartyr> "amicable relations with Abyss"
  331. [21:43] <snuffshotMartyr> The thing that demanded being allowed to kill Nickolai?
  332. [21:44] <visceralVanguard> The Nickolai it knows when on a horrible murder spree killing everyone!
  333. [21:44] <visceralVanguard> Could I ask you to promise not to kill him if that's all you knew of him?
  334. [21:44] <visceralVanguard> Of course not!
  335. [21:44] <snuffshotMartyr> ...
  336. [21:45] <snuffshotMartyr> Plan F coulda come in handy around now
  337. [21:45] <snuffshotMartyr> What was the official deal again? It wouldn't "harm" you or Alex?
  338. [21:45] * unmotivatedMeatshield slightly leans away from lyra
  339. [21:46] <visceralVanguard> Abyss promised not to work against us and he promised not to hurt Alex or I.
  340. [21:46] <snuffshotMartyr> I see
  341. [21:47] <snuffshotMartyr> A few easy ways to break that
  342. [21:47] <snuffshotMartyr> Faerzen, do me a favour
  343. [21:47] <visceralVanguard> Are you trying to corner him into something now?
  344. [21:47] <visceralVanguard> What do you want me to do?
  345. [21:47] <snuffshotMartyr> Type in "four equals five"
  346. [21:48] <visceralVanguard> Why?
  347. [21:48] <snuffshotMartyr> Just do it
  348. [21:48] <snuffshotMartyr> Tell me a lie
  349. [21:48] <visceralVanguard> "four equals five"
  350. [21:48] <snuffshotMartyr> Say it aloud
  351. [21:48] * visceralVanguard says "four equals five" aloud
  352. [21:48] * unmotivatedMeatshield looks at lyra and then looks back at computer in real life
  353. [21:48] <snuffshotMartyr> Can't tell now, but I've recorded it, so I'll replay that when my hearing works again
  354. [21:48] <visceralVanguard> What are you trying to do?
  355. [21:49] <snuffshotMartyr> Checking to see if you're possessed
  356. [21:49] <visceralVanguard> I see.
  357. [21:49] <snuffshotMartyr> Because I feel like you might be
  358. [21:50] <visceralVanguard> I know you think I might be.
  359. [21:50] <visceralVanguard> I think there is very little I can do to assuage that feeling.
  360. [21:50] <snuffshotMartyr> You could maybe stop sympathizing with it.
  361. [21:50] * unmotivatedMeatshield puts his hand on lyra's shoulder
  362. [21:50] * snuffshotMartyr glances at him
  363. [21:50] <visceralVanguard> It is always possible to be paranoid enough such that something could be wrong.
  364. [21:50] * unmotivatedMeatshield mouths "lyra" then shakes his head
  365. [21:51] * snuffshotMartyr sighs
  366. [21:51] <snuffshotMartyr> What makes you so sure it's telling the truth?
  367. [21:52] <visceralVanguard> I am not 100% certain it is telling the truth. It simply seems the most probably outcome that it is telling the truth. If it were lying and it is actually attempting to manipulate us, there are so many other ways that it could have gone about achieving its goals that involved significantly less risk and more effect.
  368. [21:52] <visceralVanguard> Abyss seems to gain little from having fabricated this whole scene.
  369. [21:52] <snuffshotMartyr> ...
  370. [21:52] <snuffshotMartyr> Darn it
  371. [21:52] <snuffshotMartyr> That actually makes some sense
  372. [21:53] <visceralVanguard> Wait, really?
  373. [21:53] <snuffshotMartyr> Blurgh
  374. [21:53] <visceralVanguard> I was preparing myself to hear you try and shoot that down.
  375. [21:53] <visceralVanguard> Well, that was nice.
  376. [21:53] <snuffshotMartyr> I still don't like it
  377. [21:54] <snuffshotMartyr> But you might be right
  378. [21:54] * unmotivatedMeatshield quickly glances at lyra and back in suprise
  379. [21:54] <snuffshotMartyr> It wants something more than just us dead
  380. [21:54] <snuffshotMartyr> Or worse
  381. [21:54] <snuffshotMartyr> Can't forget the worse
  382. [21:54] <visceralVanguard> Of course.
  383. [21:55] <snuffshotMartyr> But still
  384. [21:55] <snuffshotMartyr> You're trying to sympathize with its sob story?
  385. [21:56] <visceralVanguard> Why wouldn't I?
  386. [21:56] <visceralVanguard> I am trying to ascertain the truth of the situation.
  387. [21:56] <visceralVanguard> There is no other way than to hear its side of the story.
  388. [21:57] <snuffshotMartyr> O.O
  389. [21:57] * snuffshotMartyr grins
  390. [21:57] <visceralVanguard> If it is lying then I am simply listening to meaningless words in an attempt to learn the truth and if it isn't it isn't then I am being a good person.
  391. [21:57] * snuffshotMartyr 's grin widens
  392. [21:59] * unmotivatedMeatshield looks at lyra
  393. [21:59] <snuffshotMartyr> I getcha
  394. [22:01] <snuffshotMartyr> Faerzen
  395. [22:01] <snuffshotMartyr> I'm sorry I ever doubted you
  396. [22:01] <unmotivatedMeatshield> Im missing something arent I
  397. [22:01] <snuffshotMartyr> He's got a plan.
  398. [22:01] * visceralVanguard looks at Lyra with an puzzled expression
  399. [22:01] <unmotivatedMeatshield> Oh boy
  400. [22:02] <unmotivatedMeatshield> more plans
  401. [22:02] * snuffshotMartyr turns somber
  402. [22:02] <snuffshotMartyr> ... and I've been doing the same thing I was so angry at you for.
  403. [22:03] <unmotivatedMeatshield> wait angry at who
  404. [22:03] <snuffshotMartyr> Faerzen
  405. [22:03] <unmotivatedMeatshield> alright
  406. [22:03] <snuffshotMartyr> For getting in the way and assuming I'm the only one who thinks ahead
  407. [22:03] * snuffshotMartyr shakes her head
  408. [22:03] <visceralVanguard> Apology accepted, thank you.
  409. [22:03] <snuffshotMartyr> Likewise.
  410. [22:04] <snuffshotMartyr> New rule. You send Carl my way, and you know exactly how I'll act towards it.
  411. [22:04] <snuffshotMartyr> Understood?
  412. [22:04] <visceralVanguard> Hmm?
  413. [22:04] <snuffshotMartyr> No more Bayesian garbage. One action, one reaction.
  414. [22:04] <visceralVanguard> What do you mean?
  415. [22:05] <snuffshotMartyr> I mean you know exactly how a meeting between Carl and I would go. Right?
  416. [22:05] <snuffshotMartyr> Or you have an idea.
  417. [22:05] <visceralVanguard> I would predict quite unpleasantly.
  418. [22:05] <snuffshotMartyr> Perfect
  419. [22:05] <snuffshotMartyr> That's fact now.
  420. [22:05] <snuffshotMartyr> No more predicting. It's now a fundamental rule of causality
  421. [22:05] * unmotivatedMeatshield googles bayesian
  422. [22:06] <visceralVanguard> Okay then.
  423. [22:06] <snuffshotMartyr> Deal?
  424. [22:06] <visceralVanguard> Thank you for clearing the mudder waters of probability and causality.
  425. [22:06] <visceralVanguard> How is it a deal?
  426. [22:06] <visceralVanguard> You are stating something.
  427. [22:06] <snuffshotMartyr> Yes
  428. [22:07] <snuffshotMartyr> And in exchange, your plans are that much simpler to make. Because now you don't need to factor me in as anything but a static number
  429. [22:07] <visceralVanguard> Okay.
  430. [22:08] <snuffshotMartyr> On the other hand...
  431. [22:08] <snuffshotMartyr> If and/or when your plans FAIL...
  432. [22:08] <snuffshotMartyr> Roll 1d20+5 to smirk like a supervillain like in the movies
  433. [22:08] <`DM> snuffshotMartyr rolled 1d20+5 to smirk like a supervillain like in the movies [ 1d20=6 ]{11}
  434. [22:08] <snuffshotMartyr> My turn.
  435. [22:09] <visceralVanguard> So essentially you are telling me that this better work or else your doing whatever you want.
  436. [22:09] <unmotivatedMeatshield> roll 1d20-1 to notice smirk
  437. [22:09] <`DM> unmotivatedMeatshield rolled 1d20-1 to notice smirk [ 1d20=2 ]{1}
  438. [22:10] <visceralVanguard> *you're
  439. [22:10] <snuffshotMartyr> No
  440. [22:10] <snuffshotMartyr> I'm telling you that I am now a known quantity
  441. [22:11] <snuffshotMartyr> And if you hit the point where nothing works, then I've still got a few ideas that might be salvageable
  442. [22:11] <visceralVanguard> That is an incredibly reasonable thing to say.
  443. [22:11] <snuffshotMartyr> Like Plan A
  444. [22:11] <snuffshotMartyr> I liked Plan A
  445. [22:11] <snuffshotMartyr> Would have been nice to try it out
  446. [22:11] <visceralVanguard> Which one was that again?
  447. [22:12] <visceralVanguard> Was that Derse?
  448. [22:12] <snuffshotMartyr> Not telling
  449. [22:12] <visceralVanguard> Excellent.
  450. [22:12] <snuffshotMartyr> My point is
  451. [22:12] <snuffshotMartyr> For whatever purposes you decide to paint it as
  452. [22:13] <snuffshotMartyr> I don't care about anything but making Carl suffer
  453. [22:13] <visceralVanguard> I am quite aware of that.
  454. [22:13] <visceralVanguard> Thank you for clarifying.
  455. [22:13] <snuffshotMartyr> Alrighty
  456. [22:13] <snuffshotMartyr> Now then
  457. [22:14] <snuffshotMartyr> You said there were two things?
  458. [22:14] <visceralVanguard> Yes.
  459. [22:14] <visceralVanguard> The boxes.
  460. [22:14] <snuffshotMartyr> Ugh, right
  461. [22:14] <snuffshotMartyr> It's gone
  462. [22:14] <unmotivatedMeatshield> we uh
  463. [22:14] <unmotivatedMeatshield> duct taped a grenade to it and chucked it off a cliff
  464. [22:14] <visceralVanguard> Lovely.
  465. [22:15] <visceralVanguard> What was the reason for that?
  466. [22:15] <snuffshotMartyr> Wanted to see what'd happen
  467. [22:15] <visceralVanguard> What did the box look like?
  468. [22:15] <unmotivatedMeatshield> and apparently its a lich cropse
  469. [22:15] <unmotivatedMeatshield> corpse
  470. [22:15] <snuffshotMartyr> Phylactery, yeah
  471. [22:15] <visceralVanguard> What made you think that?
  472. [22:15] <snuffshotMartyr> Scorched wood, pictures of nooses and skulls, and the words 'do not open'
  473. [22:16] <snuffshotMartyr> So naturally, we didn't open it
  474. [22:16] <visceralVanguard> I see.
  475. [22:16] <snuffshotMartyr> What are we, stupid?
  476. [22:16] <visceralVanguard> Perfectly reasonable.
  477. [22:16] <visceralVanguard> Alex, do you have one?
  478. [22:16] <unmotivatedMeatshield> sorta
  479. [22:16] <unmotivatedMeatshield> i dont think so
  480. [22:16] <unmotivatedMeatshield> i can check
  481. [22:16] <visceralVanguard> I would advise checking.
  482. [22:16] * unmotivatedMeatshield checks inventory
  483. [22:16] * unmotivatedMeatshield pulls out wooden box
  484. [22:16] <unmotivatedMeatshield> Yeah I've got one
  485. [22:17] <visceralVanguard> Lovely.
  486. [22:17] <snuffshotMartyr> I've got one grenade left
  487. [22:17] <visceralVanguard> I would refrain from destroying this one so hastily.
  488. [22:17] <snuffshotMartyr> Oh, it didn't get destroyed
  489. [22:17] <visceralVanguard> Okay, "getting rid of"
  490. [22:17] <snuffshotMartyr> Kinda just disappeared
  491. [22:18] <visceralVanguard> I still do not know what these boxes are or where they came from.
  492. [22:18] <unmotivatedMeatshield> so whats in it?
  493. [22:18] <visceralVanguard> But it appears that almost everyone I have talked to has one.
  494. [22:18] <visceralVanguard> They have all been of differing appearances.
  495. [22:18] <visceralVanguard> However, all wood.
  496. [22:18] <visceralVanguard> A couple of them have been opened, namely Nick's and my own.
  497. [22:19] <visceralVanguard> Neither of them portrayed any sort of negative imagery on the outside and I used Reggie as a mental precaution.
  498. [22:19] <visceralVanguard> Mine appeared to be a makeup box.
  499. [22:19] <visceralVanguard> As it turns out, that is precisely what it was.
  500. [22:19] <unmotivatedMeatshield> It...
  501. [22:19] <unmotivatedMeatshield> had makeup?
  502. [22:19] <visceralVanguard> Indeed.
  503. [22:20] <snuffshotMartyr> Well what the heck
  504. [22:20] <visceralVanguard> Nick's contained similarly mundane objects, but both contained a note.
  505. [22:20] <visceralVanguard> The notes seemed to be from me.
  506. [22:20] <visceralVanguard> Claiming to be from the future.
  507. [22:20] <snuffshotMartyr> Ladies and gentlemen
  508. [22:21] <snuffshotMartyr> Here we see the first recorded evidence of, let's call it Wingwraith
  509. [22:21] <unmotivatedMeatshield> why wraith? is it malevolent
  510. [22:21] <visceralVanguard> I have already met my alternate self. I hope I do not need to again.
  511. [22:22] <unmotivatedMeatshield> Oh
  512. [22:22] <visceralVanguard> Regardless of whether these boxes are in fact from my future self, I figured I would provide you with the information.
  513. [22:22] <visceralVanguard> I haven't the foggies clue how future me would be able to transport the boxes back in time and place them in our sylladices, but there are many things I do not understand about this game.
  514. [22:23] <visceralVanguard> We do know that time travel is possible in this game.
  515. [22:23] <snuffshotMartyr> Juan's vortex manipulator
  516. [22:23] <unmotivatedMeatshield> what
  517. [22:24] <snuffshotMartyr> Another guy, with a time machine
  518. [22:24] <visceralVanguard> Juan either has or will obtain an item that allows one to travel through time in some manner.
  519. [22:24] <visceralVanguard> The specifics are a bit fuzzy, but time travel of some sort is definitely possible.
  520. [22:24] * unmotivatedMeatshield rubs eyes
  521. [22:24] <unmotivatedMeatshield> gret just what we needed
  522. [22:24] <snuffshotMartyr> So it goes
  523. [22:24] <visceralVanguard> That is how Maskwraith was able to travel here.
  524. [22:25] <visceralVanguard> Oh, another piece of information that may be useful, however minimal that use is.
  525. [22:25] <visceralVanguard> I spoke with Regent about Maskwraith and what Regent did to him.
  526. [22:25] <snuffshotMartyr> ??
  527. [22:26] <visceralVanguard> According to Regent, he banished Maskwraith to a place "very far away" that will prove to be very difficult to return from.
  528. [22:26] <snuffshotMartyr> "very far away" will definitely stop a time traveller
  529. [22:26] <visceralVanguard> He is not certain of exactly where he sent him, only that it has effectively removed him from the picture for the time being.
  530. [22:26] <visceralVanguard> However, "for the time being" has entirely no meaning for Maskwraith.
  531. [22:26] <snuffshotMartyr> Exactly
  532. [22:26] <snuffshotMartyr> So... he's still hanging around?
  533. [22:26] <visceralVanguard> That is why I said it is of minimal use, but still potentially of greater than zero utility.
  534. [22:27] <visceralVanguard> Who, Regent?
  535. [22:27] <snuffshotMartyr> Maskwraith
  536. [22:27] <visceralVanguard> I have no idea.
  537. [22:27] <snuffshotMartyr> Gone for now, but can just come back
  538. [22:27] <visceralVanguard> Essentially, yes.
  539. [22:27] <visceralVanguard> Also there is the fact that he was able to travel through time before the trial as well.
  540. [22:27] <visceralVanguard> So he could potentially crop up anywhere regardless.
  541. [22:27] <visceralVanguard> As long as he decided to do so before the trial.
