  23. Follow these steps for a possible fix:
  24.
  25. Go to steamapps/common/dota2 (or dota2 beta)/ and run dota.exe
  26. Game will start but won’t be connected to the Steam network. This will allow you to change settings
  27. Change all the video settings to lowest. Set it the game to windowed mode.
  28. Close game
  29. Launch game from steam client
  30. Edit settings back to normal
  31.
  32. Problem #2 Dota 2 Crash Fix – Dota 2 Crashes After Pressing “Start Game”
  33. Seems to be a problem for those using nVidia graphics or nVidia-based laptops. If Dota 2 is crashing right before starting a game, try this:
  34. Dota 2 Crash Fix and Fixes to Errors, Freezing, Lagging, CTD, Poor FPS, Black screen, No Sound
  35. On Steam, go to Launch Options: look for it under Library –> On the left side menu right-click Dota 2 –> Properties –> General Tab –> Launch Options
  36. Type -nod3d9ex in the Launch Options input field
  37. Start Dota 2
  38.
  39. Problem #3 Dota 2 Crash Fix – Dota 2 Crashes and Cannot Load Game after getting Party Invite
  40. Follow these steps for a possible fix:
  41.
  42. Get whoever sent you the invite to restart their client
  43. Load up Dota 2
  44. Ask them not to send another invite

  54.
  55. Problem #5 Dota 2 Crash Fix – Crash to Desktop upon Launch / Startup
  56. If you’re game randomly crashes upon launching the game, ensure or try the following:
  57.
  58. Update your nVidia / ATI graphics drivers. Check our Technical References page for proper and official download links. - http://crashfixes.com/technical-refe...indows-mac-os/
  59. Turn off SLI / Crossfire then start the game. See if it stabilizes game performance.
  60. Turn off your anti-virus software before launching the game, but make sure you turn it back on after playing. Make sure Windows Defender is also disabled.
  61. Try using only one GPU first (turn the other one off via your nVidia / ATI graphics control panel)
  62. Try running the game in Windowed Mode (frequently works for low-end PCs)
  63. Disable anti-aliasing and filtering
  64. Disable V-sync
  65. Disable background apps, and turn off your anti-virus software
  66. In Windows 7 right-click the Dota 2 exe file, go to the ‘Compatibility Mode’ tab and check ‘Disable Desktop Composition’
  67. Run through our list of general fixes, which will most likely resolve your problems
  68.
  69. Problem #6 Dota 2 Crash Fix – Dota 2 Crashes on Intel HD Graphics Card
  70. Simply do a clean uninstall and reinstall of your Intel Graphics Driver. Check our Technical References page for proper and official downloads.
  71.
  72. Problem #7 Dota 2 Texture Fix – Bad Textures, Texture Breaks, Texture Glitch on gaming laptop
  73. This is only for gaming laptops, but could work for some PCs. Note that this is an advanced solution, and only try this if other basic solutions such as disabling anti-aliasing and filtering failed for you. If your BIOS has the option, disable ‘Switchable Graphics’. This will remove your laptop PC’s ability to automatically switch between the onboard intel graphics card and the nVidia / ATI graphics chip, thus smoothening out gameplay.
  74.
  75. Problem #8 Dota 2 Crash Fix – For Quad Core and Multi-Core PCs
  76. If you’re on Quad Core, try this fix to address any crash issues:
  77.
  78. Start the game
  79. Alt+Tab Out of the game
  80. Open Task Manager
  81. Right click on Dota 2.exe
  82. Set Affinity
  83. Select core 0 and 1 only. You need to run the game on two CPU’s basically, so to avoid the crash to desktop.
  84.
  85. Problem #9 Dota 2 Controller Fix – Xbox 360 or Other Controller Doesn’t Work
  86. There are two known possible solutions as of writing for this controller bug:
  87.
  88. Manually download and install any Dota 2 game patch from the official source instead rather than automatically updating via Steam or any similar game client.
  89. If you haven’t yet, go to your Windows Control Panel and ensure that the Xbox 360 Controller is enabled. Then, in-game, go to Options > Controls > Customize Controls (or similar menu path) and ensure that the proper controller is selected.
  90.
  91. Problem #10 Dota 2 Install Error: “Dota 2 Install Fails, Cannot Install”
  92. This is a Microsoft C++ bug so the quick fix is to uninstall your C++ files. If you see 2 instances of Microsoft C++, uninstall both of them; and don’t worry, they are easy to reinstall. There are also a couple workarounds online if you don’t want to uninstall them.
  93.
  94. Problem #11 Dota 2 Game Freeze Fix – Game Freezes during the Intro Video
  95. If you’re using Steam, a quick solution is to verify the integrity of your Steam game cache to resolve the problem. If it persists, ensure that both your graphics drivers and DirectX are updated. Doing both will mostly reduce the occurrences of Dota 2 freezing.
  96.
  97. Problem #12 Dota 2 Crash Fix – Game crashes when launching / upon launch
  98. This is a typical DirectX problem. Just update to the latest DirectX version and voila. If that doesn’t work, reinstall DirectX completely.
  99.
  100. Problem #13 Dota 2 DirectX Fix – Cannot Install Direct X / Stuck at Direct X Installation
  101. More often than not, this has been caused by other software drivers such as those from Logitech, Razer, Microsoft, etc, which normally control other minor peripherals such as your webcam, special programs, and sometimes your mouse. Simply shut them off and disable them, and try updating/installing Direct X again.
  102.
  103. Problem #14 Dota 2 Crash Fix – Possible Crash Fix for nVidia users only
  104. Go to Nvidia control panel by right clicking the icon in the taskbar, then manage 3d settings and set ‘Threaded Optimization’ to on.
  105.
  106. Problem #15 Dota 2 Graphics Fix – Cannot see main menu, Menu crashes, Dual monitor problems
  107. A common problem when playing on multiple screens. For now, the solution is to unplug other monitors and play on single screen. If that doesn’t work, try playing in windowed mode.
  108.
  109. Problem #16 Dota 2 Crash Fix – nVidia Optimus Crashes the Game
  110. If you’re using a newer laptop that’s using an nVidia Optimus card, try checking your Optimus settings.
  111.
  112. Open the “nVidia Control Panel” from your start menu.
  113. On the lefthand side, under “Select a task…”
  114. Open the “3D Settings” tree, and select “Manage 3D Settings”
  115. On the righthand panel, click the “Program Settings” tab.
  116. Under “1. Select a program…”, click “Add”, navigate to your installation folder and navigate to the application / exe file.
  117. Under “2. Select the preferred graphics…”, choose “High-performance NVIDIA processor”
  118. Then (VERY IMPORTANT!) click “Apply” in the bottom right.
  119. Launch the game.
  120.
  121. Problem #17 Dota 2 Launch Fix – Cannot launch the Game
  122. A common fix is clicking on the Dota 2 exe file straight from the installation folder rather than from any launcher/client.
  123.
  124. Problem #18 Dota 2 Sound / Audio Fix – No sound or weak sound
  125. For Windows 7 and Vista users:
  126.
  127. First of all, update your sound card drivers. If doing that doesn’t clear up the problem, make sure you have volume set to max for Dota 2 in the volume mixer (click on the little speaker icon in the bottom-right of your screen in the system tray). If you’re in-game, just alt+tab out of the game and check if Dota 2 is set to max in the volume mixer.
  128.
  129. Another tip you could try is to go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound > Communications Tab then select the “Do Nothing” radio button to permanently fix this issue.
  130.
  131.
  132. For Windows XP users:
  133.
  134. Reduce hardware acceleration, or set your speakers to Stereo.
  135.
  136. Problem #19 Dota 2 Mouse Fix – Reverse / weird mouse acceleration problem
  137. To quickly fix this, try shutting off your mouse-specific software from Logitech, Microsoft, Razer, and the like. Also try a lower polling rate, sometimes this is switchable on the bottom-side of the gaming mouse.
  138.
  139. Problem #20 Dota 2 Lag Fix
  140. If Dota 2 keeps lagging for you, please check out our tips on reducing lag.
