Relay

Hi, everyone-

AGDQ 2017 submissions are almost upon us, so I wanted to take some time to let you know where things stand with the DKC trilogy relay submission.

I apologize if this is a little long, but if you are interested in the relay, *please* take the time to read this!!

* First, it seems like there is enough interest for us to submit up to 3 teams for this, which is very exciting.
* Second, I've gotten some clarification from Vulajin on how we should submit this.
* Lastly, I'd still like to try to have all of us do this relay to make a submission video.

Based on who is willing to do which games and current PBs, here is what I'm envisioning as the three teams:

Fathlo, Namux, Cris (Total PB: 2:07:13)
Zera, v0oid, N0c (Total PB: 2:06:36)
Kanis, Waffle, Eazinn (Total PB: 2:05:39)
Commentary: Antilles, Supreme

This lets us safely give a 2:15 estimate, and has all three teams within 2 minutes of each other (putting all three teams on the final boss of DKC3 at the same time - which would be an awesome race to watch). Room for one or two more on commentary as well - preferably people who have run all three games (see the DKCTF or SM races from SGDQ for an example as to how this will work).

We can sort out which is Team Diddy, Team Dixie, and Team Kiddy later. (If you're Donkey you're dead ;).

Now, as far as submissions go, Vulajin has given a detailed description on what we need in the AGDQ 2017 submissions thread on the SDA forum. Please go read this post! At a high level, the most important bit is:

***if you do not submit, you will not be able to participate in the relay, EVEN AS A BACKUP!***

Since there are so many people involved here, I would really like to have backups submitted for each game. So *please* submit for any game you are willing to run, even as a backup! (For example, I will be submitting DKC2 even though I'm not one of the fastest times). We need to have backups submit since it's almost certain we won't get all of the 9 people interested to all make it.

AGDQ submissions allow you to have up to 4 categories per game. I don't believe any of you are submitting that many categories of any Donkey game, so please include "Trilogy Relay" as a category. For the video on that category, you can just include whichever any% video you would otherwise submit.

There has been some discussion about whether 2 relay teams or 3 relay teams is better, but I propose we just leave that up to the committee to decide. If we submit three, then they have the option to include two teams, but if we only submit two, then three isn't possible. I think three teams makes it more likely for there to be a more entertaining race, and we can make the "if you're Donkey you're dead" joke from above.

Lastly, I would really like to try to actually *do* this relay as a submission video. I know it could be difficult to get all of us together at the same time, but I think it would be a stronger sell to the committee to show them how good this could be. If you are one of the 9 people listed above (or really, I suppose, anyone - if we have a backup in the submission video that's fine, the best submitted times will obviously be chosen), then *PLEASE* let me know your availability over the next two to three weeks. Submissions close on September 10, so we just have to do it before then.

I'm sort of targeting the evening of September 2 or September 5. I envision it being something broadcast over Supreme's stream (I probably should've discussed this with him....), with he and I doing a sample of the sort of commentary we would bring in the marathon itself.

It is not required that we do this, but I think it would be a really fun event in its own right, and would make a really strong submission.

I'm sorry if I end up being a pain about this, but I *will* be continuing to contact all of you as we get through submission time. I'd really like to see this relay happen, and I know I'm not the only one, so I'm going to continue coordinating it.
