- 1 Introduction
- ══════════════
- Far, far away, in the south of the distant land of China, there is a
- great southern city at the mouth of a long river. The city's name is
- *Ùzje* (MGY: *Vn Jiingr*), home to over seven million inhabitants and
- one trillion dollars.
- Originally a small fishing village, Ùzje was taken from Imperial China
- by the British in the Wars of Narcotics in 1842 and has been developed
- under their wing, resulting in its fortuitous bilingualism, with its
- populace well-versed in both Man Gog Yuu, the successor to Chinese and
- the lingua franca of all of East Asia; and g'Mòdyfäjq, the imported
- colonial language that is common currency in much of the western
- world.
- 2 Geography
- ═══════════
- Region divided into four or five urban districts, delimited by highway
- zones:
- 1. Namfəŋ / Näqveq
- • The southern island
- • Affluent and mostly residential
- • Contains the red light district
- • Location of most of the faculties of law
- 2. Cojan
- • Composed of the west part of the mainland
- • Financial centre
- • Contains Qajscit
- • Contains the tallest buildings
- • Two islands included, such as Cyxŋji
- 3. Szao
- • The much more industrial western side
- • Contains the only smart motorway system, the M5 (incidentally,
- the M5 is isolated from the rest of the motorway network)
- 4. Öŋpyŋ / Öqpyq
- • Northern part of the territory
- • Defined primarily by the M8
- 5. Zestəq Tel
- • A former industrial zone, now more of a mixed use area.
- • Poor
- • Historically classed as either part of Cojan or Szao. Currently
- included in Zone 2.
- Additionally, there are several rural areas:
- 1. Ajü Ajł and Zəjə
- These two are part of Zone 5 and together are larger than all the
- other islands. They are worlds apart from each other – the
- smaller, "secondary isle" is heavily reclaimed in some places,
- whereas large parts of the larger, "primary isle" is completely
- virgin and zoned as a nature reserve.
- 1. Ajü Ajł
- • Smaller island
- • Highly geoengineered
- • The M4 rides across it
- • Contains the airport
- 2. Zəjə
- • Larger island
- • Largely undeveloped
- • Has a theme park
- • Main backbone: the A50
- 2. (As-of-yet unnamed area) "Zone 6"
- • A collection of islands
- • Nearly completely rural
- • A single main road, the B600
- 3. "Zone 7"
- • Everywhere else
- • Tiny islands
- • No A roads at all
- 3 History
- ═════════
- 3.1 Ancient and Chinese history
- ───────────────────────────────
- • First settled in ~9000 BCE by Neolithic period
- • Largely a backwater for the most part
- • Part of San On county for the most part
- 3.2 (Almost) Claim to Fame
- ──────────────────────────
- • MGY invented in Canton, just off of Ùzje
- • Declared official Chinese language with the rise of the republic
- • Adopted in Ùzje out of solidarity, despite (imperial) governmental
- resistance
- 3.3 British (and Japanese) colonisation
- ───────────────────────────────────────
- • Imperial government failed to defend the island in 1842
- • Originally only uncluded Namfəŋ, but in 1898 included the rest of
- the islands for 99 years
- • In WWII the region was lost to the Japanese for about four years
- • British rule resumes in 1945.
- • In 1997 the whole lot was returned back to Chinese rule in the
- 4 Language
- ══════════
- As mentioned earlier, the region has two languages, g'Mòdyfäjq and Man
- Gog Yuu.
- 4.1 g'Mòdyfäjq
- ──────────────
- 4.2 Man Gog Yuu
- ───────────────
- • "Pan-Sinitic Auxuliary language"
- • Invented by one guy in Canton (Qongr Dong)
- • Lexicon and phonology
- • Took a lot of vocabulary from Cantonese, Mandarin, and Japanese
- • Minor contributions from Korean and Vietnamese
- • Script
- • Mixed Hangul and Hanzi
- • Two new glyphs:
- • , for low tone
- • · (or .) for long vowel
- • Can be combined into ;
- • Grammar
- • Classical Chinese matrix
- • Japanese particles
- • Deeply flawed
- • Has a lot of Western influence
- • Extremely inconsistent in importing vocabulary
- 5 Economy
- ═════════
- 5.1 Currency
- ────────────
- Two parallel currencies, both based on the penny:
- • £sd
- Used in daily life and also the version that is denominated upon.
- Decimalisation of the currency attempted and failed in 1973.
- There are 20 shillings in a pound and 12 pence to the shilling. The
- smallest unit of currency is the halfpenny, ½d. Writing £sd:
- • Shillings typically written (e.g.) 4/-
- • Pounds, shillings and pence can all be written together,
- e.g. £1/19/11½ but on occasion the pounds are rolled into the
- shillings: 39/11½
- • $d
- Introduced in a decimalisation attempt, but currently only used in
- finance.
- There are 1000 pennies in a dollar. As a consequence, $1 is also
- called the kilopenny. $1 = £4/3/2, and this value is commonly used
- as a lucky number, as well as the value for a commemorative coin.
- Coins and notes, from smallest to largest:

- ═══════════
- 6.1 Road
- ────────
- The Ùzje road numbering system is directly modelled from the that of
- the United Kingdom, and has four classes of roads: A, B, M and
- Unclassified. They are indicated by different sign backgrounds.
- The road numbering system was originally a way to make the territory
- more British, but has taken a secondary purpose of guiding foreigners.
- 6.1.1 Motorways (M)
- ╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌
- • Green signs
- • Their numbers can be one of two types:
- • M followed by a digit, such as M1 or M8.
- • Any other road number that has (M) after it, e.g. A21(M) and
- A22(M).
- • Grade-separated and dual-carriageway, and therefore always has
- directional suffices: (N) (E) (S) (W) (NE) (SE) (NW) (SW).
- • Kilometre markers mandatory
- • Lane specific speed limit, generally at or exceeds 70 km/h
- • Hard shoulders
- 6.1.2 A roads (A)
- ╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌
- • Blue signs
- • Names are the letter A followed by 2 or 3 digits, e.g. A10, A34
- • Can be dual carriageway, but usually is not
- • Denotes arterial routes
- • No hard shoulders even if dual carriageway
- 6.1.3 B roads (B)
- ╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌
- • Purple signs
- • Names are the letter B followed by 3 or 4 digits
- • Denotes secondary routes or rural arterial routes such as the B500
- and the B600
- 6.1.4 Unclassified roads
- ╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌
- • White signs
- • Can be very low standard such as S1
- • Can have restrictions on access
- 6.2 Non-vehicle land transport
- ──────────────────────────────
- 6.2.1 Bus
- ╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌
