- Rome isn't build in a day, and anime aren't drawn in a week. Production for an 1-cour anime usually starts over a year before airing, and for some studios (see SHAFT) continue until the night of broadcast.

- Gathering my notes together is taking a lot longer than I expected, so here's a cliff-notes version of Madoka Magica (2011) production timeline instead:
- 2008 - Casual conversation about an original magical girl show between Iwakamiand Shinbo become serious
- October, 2008 - Initial Meeting between what would become the Magica Quartet - Shinbo, Iwakami, Gen, Ume; series keyword and visual design determined inplanning memo;
- October, 2008 - Aoki Ume finished character design - 1st draft for the 5 heroines
- December(?), 2008 - Composition Meeting of Magica Quartet to review Gen's Series Proposal ; accepted with adjustments (13->12 episode and etc)
- end of 2008 to end of 2009 - Gen writes Initial Draft of the script at one-episode-a-month pace; temporary title "Mahou Shoujo Apocalypse"
- 2009 - Aoki Ume finished character design - 2nd draft, adding Kyubey, Hitomi, Kyousuke, and other side characters.
- early 2010 - Screenplay Meeting of Magica Quartet; Inu-Curry recommended for Witch World design by Shinbo; Gen begins (minor) revision to script; storyboard begins
- 2010-04-20 - SHAFT original anime info leaked
- 2010-05-12 - Settai Meeting (bottom right) between Shinbo/SHAFT/Inu-Curry; Witch design and Barrier world discussion; key animation begins
