- I've actually toyed around with the idea of making a collaborative scanlation portal/site before, and even now. Generally, it works like this:
- →Raw providers upload or post downloads of manga on the site
- →People who are interested to work on it, but only have a specific skill (e.g. graphics, typesetting, TL, editorial work, etc.) mark their interest on the manga
- →Eventually, there will be enough people who are interested in the same title that a team can be formed around that specific work
- →Each manga also has its own project page so that each team can collaborate within and so on
- So basically, it's like a publicly open scanlation wiki, much like TLWiki and Baka-Tsuki revolutionized TL work on things by making stuff openly available and letting people who are interested apply to TL stuff, and then project teams self-manage.
- Of course, it will be much more complicated, since it's not just plaintext we're dealing with, but images.
- Plus, there has to be some sort of standard of quality, since nowadays, we've got less-than-stellar translators and less-than-stellar image editors all working on good manga that deserve much better than shoddy work.
- It's all kind of just brewing in my head for now. I think it's a decent concept, but there's no self-sustainability, so all it will be is a strain on my non-existent finances. Even now I admire Moogy and whoever's hosting Baka-Tsuki for keeping them up. That and I'm not really good with coding up such a complex site (despite having taken up computer science).
