  1. 0:28: Welcome, ladies! This way - let's go around so nobody falls in and hurts themselves.
  2.
  3. 0:36: Yeah, this is a... cool bus! I can already tell you've done a few things with it. I just hope you read up on what's legal before you started tinkering with it. I'm gonna tell you some things that are good to keep in mind.
  4.
  5. 0:46: There are of course a few technical aspects you don't have much control over, like tires, brakes, shock absorbers, rust, et cetera, but the most important thing to check before you buy is that the chassis number is correct. Then, of course, you have to check that the number of passengers the bus is designed to seat matches the number that's in the vehicle registration card - if it doesn't, then "uh oh!".
  6.
  7. 1:07: Check if there are any faults registered on the vehicle, and that the previous owners have paid the annual fee. On Brønnøysundregisteret (the Norwegian company registry), you can see if there are any faults registered, if the fee has been paid, or if anyone has used it as collateral for debt - if that's the case, it could be quite a bummer to get that bill from the last owners of the bus. You can find that out quite easily with an SMS or an online search.
  8.
  9. 1:32: Now we've checked the undercarriage, and it looks quite nice - no rust in any of the load-bearing parts, and the shock absorbers worked -- the tires look nice, the tread depth should be at the very least 1.6 mm but we recommend 2 mm, anything below that - we usually say "forget it." But this looks nice. Yeah! Questions?
  10.
  11. 1:58: On the roof of buses like these, there are lots of nice things to see! And most of them are illegal.
  12.
  13. 2:06: What you need to remember is that if you're going to have any kind of rig or lighting setup on the roof of the bus, you need an independent lab or the manufacturer of the bus to provide documentation in writing that it's safe, okay? Nothing else is approved.
  14.
  15. 2:24: Yeah, let's go into the living room then! Let's see - yeah, there's been a party here. Uh, let's start with the driver - here's where he sits. And from there it's important he can see to the sides and all the way to the back. So no walls or curtains or anything like that.
  16.
  17. 2:42: The horn [HONK] yeah, nice, normal horn - lots of graduates really want a fanfare or a trumpet horn - da-da-da-da-dadadada-da - forget it, it's not legal. Imagine if a little kid on a bike hears that trumpet, is frightened, and cycles right into the street ahead of the bus - then we have a fatal accident on our hands. That's not something we want, that's not something we like, that's why it's banned.
  18.
  19. 3:08: Now for the SEAAATS. The SEAAATBELTS. BORING. I know. I know. But it's important. Imagine if that cooler comes flying through the bus in a crash. Then it's going to weigh about a ton. Can you imagine how much you'll weigh if you crash at about 60 km/h, you don't have a seatbelt on, and you come flying through here? It's probably going to go really really badly.
  20.
  21. 3:38: So we need belts, fastened to - oh look, they're fastened nicely. That's what we like to see. Lots of people just fasten the belts to the seats themselves, and that doesn't particularly help. Then you just go through the windshield with the seat on your back - and landing sunny side down with 50 kilos of seat on your back, it's not a particularly nice sight.
  22.
  23. 3:55: Let's check the emergency exits. Here's the roof hatch - this is fine, it can be opened, and you haven't attached lots of nifty things around it, or put a jacuzzi on top which would stop people from getting out. It's important that it's always free of obstacles, an adult should be able to climb out, always, no matter what.
  24.
  25. 4:13: Then we have the emergency exits for the windows, there are two types - either they come with tear-off handles, where you pull on the handle and push the window out, or the ones you have, which you can break with the hammer. It's also really nice that you've remembered to keep the stickers for emergency exits both here and there. That's excellent, we like that. Great.
  26.
  27. 4:33: Here you've thought of lots of nice things, and that's nice. It's okay to use your head. "Is anything in my bus going to be especially flammable or a fantastic projectile if we crash at 50 km/h?" Generally, we can say that bricks, glass, two-by-fours, panels that tear apart and become spears and projectiles when you crash - those are not going to be approved. If you're going to build things, use light materials. All sharp edges should be padded. Ask before you build, and you save yourselves lots of work when you come in to get it approved.
  28.
  29. 5:06: Yep, that's the interior - oh, here's the fire extinguisher, that's nice - one thing to know is that it needs to be inspected and approved every year. Let's take a look outside.
  30.
  31. 5:16: Yeah - in here you've hidden an oh-so-small generator, I would think - is that right? (Yeah.) I don't see any air ventilation here. Do you know what happens then? (No.) No, what happens if you sit inside the bus and the generator chokes, and the carbon monoxide starts rising? You don't notice, you fall asleep, and then it's goodnight.
  32.
  33. 5:42: Then we've looked over the entire bus, and I just have two complaints: the exhaust here, and the paint here - this window needs to be clear, all the way out to the frame, all the way. Apart from that, I don't have anything to say. So what we'll do is I write you a list of faults, we schedule an appointment for you to come back - and you *have to* come back when it's scheduled - and if those two things are fixed, you'll get the inspection approval sticker to put on the front of the bus. Do we have a deal then? (Yes.) Then I'll go write the list. Good!
