  1. [15:34] <@Daroskt> *****Second Darkness*****
  2. [15:34] <@Daroskt> ~~~Chapter 1: Shadow in the Sky~~~
  3. [15:34] <@Daroskt> -Session 7-
  4. [15:34] <@Daroskt> The Gold Goblin is indeed close to the wharf, and by making haste, it does not take them long to reach the port at which the Foamrunner is moored. However, someone has beaten them to the punch.
  5. [15:38] <@Daroskt> Moored at the pier, just down a set of wooden stairs from where the party is standing, is the Foamrunner, just as Saul said it would be. A ramp leading down from the deck of the ship to the dock is currently being traversed by a dwarf wearing seafarer's clothes, who is wheeling a cask down said ramp.
  6. [15:40] <@Daroskt> At the base of the ramp, next to a wagon with three casks already placed upon it, are two common thugs, but the third person is not so common. He is a burly man wearing the armour and weapons of a Korvosan Guard. He looks up to the party as they approach.
  7. [15:41] <@Daroskt> "Well, well, well... if it isn't Saul's capps. I'm afraid you're a little late to the party."
  8. [15:42] * Katarina frowns, still holding her bow at the ready. "Th-those a-aren't yours..."
  9. [15:42] * Raam_Pitfighter looks to the bug man with a smile that shows all his ugly teeth, "Late, HA, I'd say we are right on time to spill your blood all over your fellow people."
  10. [15:44] <@Daroskt> The man sneers at Katarina, "They are now, ain't that right cap'n?" The dwarf, apparently not wanting to get caught up in the feud, simply flees back aboard his ship. "I don't know how you three managed to make such an impression around town, but I suggest you back off if you value your lives."
  11. [15:46] * Raam_Pitfighter "I could say the same to you, but by the time that you realize I'm not the person you should be fighting, your blood will be all over this wharf."
  12. [15:46] * Katarina nods. "P-please r-reconsider..."
  13. [15:47] <@Daroskt> The man snorts, "You wanna test your mettle against Braddikar Faje? Fine!" The man draws out an impressive looking longsword and a heavy steel shield bearing the insignia of the Korvosan guard. As well, his two accompanying thugs draw their shortswords.
  14. [15:52] * Daroskt looks to Katarina, "Leave the big guy to Raam and try to pick off his thugs. I'll lend support where I'm needed."
  15. [15:52] <@Daroskt> Faje looks to his two companions, "Stay with me, we'll take them one to one. The big one looks like he might actually be a challenge, so I'll leave the mooks to you."
  16. [15:53] <@Daroskt> The thugs nod to their commander and hold their ground.
  17. [15:53] * Raam_Pitfighter "OOO this should be fun."
  18. [15:54] * Raam_Pitfighter pulls out his sword and looks to the big man in the front, "I intend to keep that promise about your blood on the wharf." and while saying this his eyes turn a blood red.
  19. [15:56] * Raam_Pitfighter moves up to face the big man in combat and readys his sword for an attack.
  20. [15:57] <@Daroskt> Before Raam can get off his swing, the two thugs, who had braced themselves against such a charge, stab in with their shortswords, showing no qualms about softening up the big target for their commander.
  21. [15:58] <@Daroskt> Neither one of them seems to have the strength of arm to punch through Raam's armour though. Unfortunately, when Raam takes his swing, Faje handily knocks the blow aside with his large shield. "That the best you got, guttersnipe?"
  22. [15:59] * Daroskt groans and lays a hand on Katarina's shoulder, muttering something. She feels a bit of supernatural guidance that would aid her next shot.
  23. [16:02] * Katarina aims forward with her bow, firing an arrow at one of the thugs. Right after, she quickly nocks a second arrow, shooting it towards the same target.
  24. [16:04] <@Daroskt> Both of Katarina's shots miss, as the thugs engaged in melee with Raam are movign around too much.
  25. [16:07] <@Daroskt> Faje laughs uproariously; "Is that all you can muster? I've seen lepers that can put up a better fight." He punctuates his insult by thrusting his sword at Raam
  26. [16:07] <@Daroskt> Faje however, is not quite able to follow through on his boast, his swing missing Raam.
  27. [16:08] * Raam_Pitfighter "HAHA, You can't hit me, and yet I don't need a shield."
  28. [16:08] <@Daroskt> Faje's thugs move around to either side of Raam and stab him from the flanks.
  29. [16:10] <@Daroskt> Only one of them manages a clean hit though
  30. [16:12] * Daroskt frowns, this was getting serious. He draws his Scimitar then says to Katarina, "Try to get those thugs off him, I'll go down after your next shot." He then places his free hand on Katarina for another dose of divine guidance before plucking up his shield as well.
  31. [16:14] * Raam_Pitfighter is beginning to feel that this situation is getting very dread for him. But he finds his inner strength to keep on fighting.
  32. [16:16] <@Daroskt> Raam manages to level a mightly blow, knocking Faje's shield aside and putting a dent in his Korvosan armour. The blood starts to seep from the soldier's wound.
  33. [16:17] * Katarina tries again with her bow, quickly firing two arrows at the thugs.
  34. [16:18] <@Daroskt> Katarina is sadly once again brought up short by the hecticness of the melee combat going on.
  35. [16:18] <@Daroskt> Faje looks down at his wound, then back up to Raam, "So that's the way you want it, huh? Alright, no more mister nice guy." He lashes out savagely with his sword.
  36. [16:19] <@Daroskt> Faje may have impressive armour, but his strength is simply less than that of Raam, as he fail to penetrate the Half-giant's armour.
  37. [16:20] * Raam_Pitfighter "Was this Not mister nice guy? HAHAHAHA, seems the same as nice guy."
  38. [16:20] <@Daroskt> Faje glares daggers at Raam, while the two thugs, not really seeming to care that the arrows being fired at them kept missing, again move to stab Raam from the flanks.
  39. [16:21] <@Daroskt> This time, both thugs manage to pierce Raam's flesh, apparently having more success than their captain. Raam's blood spills out and things do not look good for him.
  40. [16:22] * Daroskt sees that injury and decides there's no more time for leaving it to Raam. He runs down the plank, very thankful that his new Hide shirt allowed for more freedom of movement, and attempts to engage one of the flankers so as to take the pressure off Raam.
  41. [16:24] <@Daroskt> Daroskt does not manage to hit the thug in his haste, but hopefully can at least offer a new target.
  42. [16:25] * Raam_Pitfighter looks to the big man bleeding in front of him, and is hoping that this time he will fall down and die.
  43. [16:27] <@Daroskt> Faje again deflects the blow with his shield, but Raam is at least spared any further insults, with the warrior now focused on actually fighting
  44. [16:27] * Daroskt calls back to Katarina, "Just pick one off, doesn't matter which!"
  45. [16:30] * Katarina drops her bow, having no luck with it in this chaos, and opts to quickly pull out her greatsword. She runs forward to the nearest thug, swinging it in an effort to chop the man in half with a powerful blow.
  46. [16:32] <@Daroskt> Katarina does in fact cleave the man rather cleanly, his body dropping to the ground in an instant
  47. [16:32] <@Daroskt> Faje, now down a flanker, decides to try and put the odds back in his favour by taking Raam out of the picture.
  48. [16:37] <@Daroskt> He manages to get a clean hit on the raging half-giant this time, although Raam is just barely able to stay on his feet. However he looks like a stiff breeze might topple him at this point.
  49. [16:38] <@Daroskt> The remaining thug, seeing Raam's weakness, ignores Daroskt and goes for the kill against Raam.
  50. [16:39] <@Daroskt> Raam is pegged in the side, a copious amount of his blood spilling out as he collapses, the injuries becoming too much for him to bear
  51. [16:44] * Daroskt forgets about the thug and kneels down, attempting to heal Raam while keeping his guard up
  52. [16:46] <@Daroskt> Daroskt manages to cast his spell successfully, but it isn't quite enough to bring the gravely wounded half-giant back to consciousness.
  53. [16:47] * Katarina lets out a slight growl as she notes her fallen companion, turning her attention to the second thug. She raises her blade, swinging it down in an arc upon his head.
  54. [16:48] <@Daroskt> Katarina splatters the remaining thug all over the dock. Nothing but chum remains for the fish and gulls.
  55. [16:49] <@Daroskt> Faje, seeing his comrades down, decides not to take anymore chances, pointing his sword right at the fallen half-giant's heart.
  56. [16:55] * Daroskt attempts to strike at Faje to keep him from Daroskt
  57. [16:56] <@Daroskt> Daroskt is easily deflected
  58. [16:57] * Katarina swings her blade in a wide cleave, attempting to take the bastard's head off.
  59. [17:00] <@Daroskt> Faje's head is spared bu his armour, but Katarina's blow causes him to roar in pain. His attempt to finish the half-giant however, is unabated.
  60. [17:04] <@Daroskt> Faje's blade pierces Raam's heart, ending his life.
  61. [17:04] <@Daroskt> Faje is grievously wounded, and looks like he's going to attempt to run for it.
  62. [17:05] * Daroskt growls angrily and lunges at Faje, attempting to finish the bastard off.
  63. [17:08] <@Daroskt> Daroskt's angry blow slices through Faje's neck, dropping him to the ground. He twitches, not quite dead, but no longer able to flee and just as prone as Raam was when Faje killed him
  64. [17:09] <@Daroskt> -Combat Over-
  65. [17:09] * Daroskt kicks Faje's unconscious body out of spite, then looks to Katarina, "Do you want to take his head, or shall we leave him for the gulls?"
  66. [17:10] * Katarina looks to the downed man with tears and anger in her eyes, bringing her sword down towards his stomach.
  67. [17:11] <@Daroskt> Katarina skewers Faje handily, returning the favour for Raam.
  68. [17:12] * Katarina drops her sword and buries her head into her hands, starting to cry quietly over Raam's corpse.
  69. [17:12] * Daroskt sheathes his sword. "Damnit. I should have come to his aid sooner."
  70. [17:12] <Katarina> "I-i-it's m-my f-fault... I-I m-missed with a-all those a-arrows..."
  71. [17:13] * Daroskt shakes his head, "No, you were still trying to aid him without putting yourself at needless risk. I am the one who hesitated."
  72. [17:15] * Katarina sniffles and shakes her head. "W-w-we'll g-get him a b-burial, yes?"
  73. [17:20] * Daroskt nods, "He was brave, if stupid. We shall have him entombed at the Mortuary in Lubbertown. He certainly deserves better than the boneyard."
  74. [17:23] * Katarina sighs, looking at Raam's corpse sadly. "O-okay..."
  75. [17:24] <@Daroskt> As Daroskt and Katarina stand over Raam's corpse, something strange begins to occur. Hundreds of seaguls take to the air at once, and begin flying in a cacophonous spiral.
  76. [17:26] * Katarina blinks, confused, even moreso now. "W-what?"
  77. [17:26] * Daroskt looks at the gulls, "What in the nine hells?"
  78. [17:27] <@Daroskt> More and more gulls join the literal tornado of seabirds, growing ever louder and more chaotic.
  79. [17:28] * Daroskt sits there, mouth agape, with no idea as to what could be causing this phenomenon.
  80. [17:29] * Katarina just sighs, the day turning into a confusing hell.
  81. [17:32] <@Daroskt> The gull tornado eventually moves out over the harbour, staying there for a few minutes before colliding with the Cyphergate over the bay. After the crash, hundred of the gulls are crushed and fall into the water, while the few surviving birds seem to break away and finnaly fly off from the chaos.
  82. [17:34] <Katarina> "W-what d-do you th-think that w-was about?"
  83. [17:34] * Daroskt is aghast at what just transpired, "Truly this is a foul day. Our friend falls in battle, and the winds tear the birds from their nests in a flight of chaos."
  84. [17:37] * Katarina sighs. "I-I'd... l-like this d-day to be over..." She kicks the thugs bodies again, for good measure of course, before searching their possessions.
  85. [17:38] * Daroskt looks to Katarina, "We should lay him to rest before any more foulness has a chance to transpire." He looks over to the wagon that had the casks of booze on them. "We can use that."
  86. [17:39] == Raam_Pitfighter has changed nick to Valnar_Bloodblade
  87. [17:42] <@Daroskt> Katarina manages to claim 7 gold pieces from the thugs, as well as their shortswords. Faje's body yields his banded mail armour, his shield, strangely undamaged for all the blows it took, and his exceedingly well made longsword. As well as his cloak.
  88. [17:44] * Katarina stows the items on the wagon.
  89. [17:44] * Katarina moves to Raam's body next, taking care to lay him down on the wagon.
  90. [17:47] * Daroskt loosk at Raam and places his sword over his chest, putting his hands on the hilt. He then takes Raam's coins and the two potions, but leaves everything else. He notes to Katarina, "I think he'd want us to have these at least, to be strong like him."
  91. [17:49] * Katarina nods solemnly, still sorting the other acquired goods.
  92. [17:49] * Daroskt hands Katarina 229 Gold pieces and one of the Potions of Bull's Strength. He also gives her a potion of Cure Light wounds to have on her person.
  93. [17:51] * Katarina hands Daroskt the shield, having an inkling that it may be magic. "C-can y-you detect a-any magic on this?"
  94. [17:51] * Katarina also holds out the cloak for inspection.
  95. [17:52] * Katarina /also/ holds out the longsword.
  96. [17:52] * Daroskt clutches his holy symbol and casts the spell, to see if Katarina's supicions were correct. Not only was the shield magic, but so was his cloak. "The cloak is magic as well. You take it."
  97. [17:52] <@Daroskt> The longsword is not magical, but is very well crafted
  98. [17:56] * Katarina nods, putting on the cloak and stowing the shield and longsword.
  99. [17:56] <Katarina> "W-we sh-should get these identified...soon, a-at least."
  100. [17:58] * Daroskt nods, "We'll take them back to Samaritha then, once we've seen Raam buried."
  101. [17:58] <@Daroskt> Upon putting on the cloak, Katarina feels a little more resilient
  102. [18:01] * Daroskt lets Katarina pull the cart, as she was actually stronger than he was, and instead keeps his hands near his weapons as they move through the streets in case of further trouble.
  103. [18:03] * Katarina continues back to the gambling hall, huffing slightly at the heavy cart.
  104. [18:06] <@Daroskt> When they return to the Gold Goblin, they are greeted by Saul, who looks pleased to see them until the moment he lays eyes on Raam's body. "What happened?"
  105. [18:06] * Katarina sighs and frowns. "W-we w-were attacked..."
  106. [18:09] <@Daroskt> Saul blinks, "Who could possibly bring down such a strong man?"
  107. [18:09] * Daroskt answers that, "He said his name was Braddikar Faje. We returned the favour."
  108. [18:09] <@Daroskt> Saul scowls, "One of Zincher's capps. No wonder."
  109. [18:10] * Katarina frowns. "I-Is th-there any w-way to deal w-with Zincher?"
  110. [18:12] <@Daroskt> Saul shakes his head, "No, but with one of his best men defeated he'll have two paths of thought. Either that contending with you is not worth the risk anymore, or that we're a legitimate threat to him now. As well, I finally have some legitimate proof that he has been meddling in my affairs."
  111. [18:15] <@Daroskt> Saul looks at the corpse and casks, "I take it you plan on entombing him? If so, I'll let you be on your way." He snaps his fingers and a couple of bouncers removes the liquor casks from the cart. "We shall drink a toast to him from this new stock tonight."
  112. [18:16] * Katarina nods with a sad smile, ready to cart around the body to be buried.
  113. [18:18] * Daroskt frowns a bit, not really pleased that Saul's only consolation to them was a toast with expensive liquor. However, based on what their employer had said, he now had other things to worry about with the death of one of Zincher's top men.
  114. [18:20] * Katarina didn't mind... the wealth she had gained was more than enough in these past weeks. Raam's death, though she didn't know him well, hurt. He was one of her first friends.
  115. [18:23] * Daroskt feels the same way. He had often insulted the Half-Giant, but respected his prowess in combat.
  116. [18:26] <@Daroskt> Daroskt and Katarina are able to afford, easily with the money made from selling Faje's armour and sword, a tomb at the mortuary for Raam to be buried in. Since Raam had no god that he actively followed, a more generic service is held.
  117. [18:27] * Daroskt keeps the shield to be hung in the Gold Goblin as a testament to its fallen protector. Perhaps someday it would find it's way into the hands of a new friend.
  118. [18:29] * Katarina shops on the way back, buying herself some new weaponry.
  119. [18:30] * Katarina hands 120gp to Daroskt on her way back.
  120. [18:33] * Daroskt accepts it with a simple nod
  121. [18:34] <@Daroskt> -End Session-
