  1. There is a lot of contention about the anime imageboard's 4chan's state of affairs, with many feeling like the legendary site is in it's twilight years. /a/ is a bit different than the rest of the website in that it still is rather insular and hobby-focused rather than the rather disjointed, banter culture belonging to the rest of the site. While this works for some boards (/sp/ and /int/ were always like this) it has completely killed the hobbyist culture of the site. Along with politics. But that been has polluting imageboards since chanology and I have not liked 4chan since then (and only browse it because it simply is the fastest whilst keeping the most quality in terms of anime discussion), but most people reading it probably didn't experience it. Enough of this tired drivel, let's get to the list of community fit for western anime fans or "Otaku".
  2.
  3. The western anime community is a shadow of what it once was a decade ago and has reclined into it's original, reclusive form. A decade ago the scene was vibrant and everyone and their grandmother belonged to an anime forum or /a/ spin-off, those days are long gone and while there are still a lot active most are just friends at this point and these are the ones active enough to have new users without it being disruptive. Please lurk before posting and don't say you are from 4chan on any of these places.

  5. /tea/
  6. https://chakai.org/tea/
  7. A rather quiet /a/ spin off based around the idea of a "tea-time", interestingly enough, so be sure to set an alarm for that if you're interested. Please lurk a few days before posting so you can get into the rhythm of the site, as only one thread is made and a bunch of other unspoken stuff. I quite like it, but the overall population is low and please don't post a new thread or understanding how the site works.

  9. meguca
  10. https://meguca.org/a/
  11. Another cyclical kind of /a/, except it's more for what seem to friends:all the boards here seem to be ran in these cyclical type of threads, as even their /pol/ is just harmless chit-chat. I wouldn't use this as a replacement for /a/ as it's mostly playful shitposting and other inane talk, but it's in the spirit of anime/random so I'll include it for posterity. Also, there seem to be a lot of transsexuals there, so if you dislike that it might be best to avoid this site. It is quite active as well, with over 5,000 posts in one cyclical thread.

  13. fufufu
  14. https://fufufu.moe/a/
  15. another anime/random offering here, mostly seeming to be aimed at the seasonal crowd. Fufufu posters are noticeably more polite and on topic than the rest of the imageboards listed here, so PLEASE do not sour that vibe if you do decide to drop by. It's notable that site has already had an exodus of users to it due to the banning of certain memes from 4chan/a/ and being shilled on Madokami, so it already has a decent amount of regulars but it's not something you can browse for hours on end due to how slow it is.
  16. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  17. krautchan
  18. http://krautchan.net/a/
  19. an ancient looking imageboard that is slow and in german.
  20. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  21. 8chan
  22. https://8ch.net/a/index.html
  23. Yes, I know. But their /a/ isn't terrible unlike the rest of the site. The moderators actually do their job, there is a bot and you will be banned for not using periods and words like "lel". It is notable that the janitors here actually contain the political shitflinging to the point of it not being notable unlike the rest of activist abortion of this site. It's rather slow, but comfortable. The taste is more seasonal like fufufu and lewd is allowed, along with /jp/ content. It's not everyone's taste. I don't use it because the site itself is ran incompetently and some sketchy stuff has gone down regarding IPs. Not to mention the entire philosophy of the site was lost when Fred went on the /intl/ witchhunt. Crossboarders and offsiters are bullied and banned so lurking is important if you want to use this slow, insular board. It's not really worth it, though.
  24. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  25. 7chan
  26. http://7chan.org/a/
  27. A slow, ancient site that wishes it was 4chan, nothing much to say here. It's your typical /a/ fare. There are posts from 2011 on the front page. It also has a suprising amount of downtime for how little traffic it receives. It has a fairly robust /f/ board, if you're into that, though.
  28. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  29. Samachan
  30. https://samachan.org/a/
  31. Another board primarily aimed at the seasonal crowd. Not much to say rather other than the fact that it has somewhat of a cult of personality and they are experienced enough to know how to use the sage function correctly to make sure old threads don't stay on the front page for 3 months. Not bad.
  32. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  33. Tohno chan
  34. http://tohno-chan.com/an/
  35. A glacial, but decent nonetheless anime imageboard. It should be noted that posters here are significantly less playful than others. Although it isn't the site's main attraction and there are tons of boards spreading the already tiny userbase of about 150 regulars pretty thin. The air of the community is much more /jp/ than /a/, so just know that if you want to drop by.
  36. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  37. /azu/
  38. https://ib.axypb.net/azu/
  39. A relic of an ancient site that's pretty dead, but some discussion still happens. A remnant of the once legendary aggregator Wakachan, it has been reduced to this. It's honestly more of just a memorial to the good times since it has an archive and a gallery, it's kind of odd to see. Posting is flexible, but don't expect to discuss the latest seasonals here. It really isn't worth it unless you plan to revive it with your /jp/sie friends.
