Sentients

Good day and welcome ladies and gentlemen. Thank you for joining us here on the First Arm Interplanetary Network. I am Jarmal Sprodelshmackane and today we will be discussing the Gombolsens Virus Advisory.

When you look out at the stars, you will note that there seem to be millions of them scattered across the sky. The fact is, that there are billion and billion of stars in the sky. Some of those stars are in fact not stars, but; galaxies somewhat like our own galaxy, The Sanbradamy Galaxy.

You may also know that we, the Sentients so far discovered, all appear to reside in the First arm of our four armed galaxy. Furthermore, we all seem to reside within the first third of the First Arm of The Sanbradamy Galaxy.

You may believe that this is because we have not explored further along the First Arm, but; this would be incorrect. In fact we have, soon after the discovery of the interdimensional drive, (ID) have been to the far end and returned. Along the way, we have discovered multiple planetary life. Some of it is even somewhat sentient!

While most of the planetary life that we have discovered are either sentient and benign or non-sentient. However, there is at least one species, two-thirds of the way along the spiral arm that is one of the most hate filled and nasty creatures the the Maker has created. It is a miracle that this species, the Gombolsens of AE565889 have not destroyed themselves.

We have been observing these creatures for a few thousand revolution of their primary. Unlike all of the other Sentients of the First Arm, these creatures seem to thrive on greed, hate and violence. They are closed minded, dogmatic and have locally oriented perception without any global perception.  They view minorities and the vulnerable as less than themselves. They believe in something called carma; that assumes that the downtrodden of the world must deserve their fate. They find pleasure derived from another person's misfortune.  They are vain and overconfident. They are moral hypocrites.

They expand by moving into an area, devour the local resources and then move on to another area, leaving destruction and waste in their wake. They act very much the same way as viruses.

They are dishonest, selfish, cruel, mean, bulling, self-centered, arrogant, rude, inconsiderate, heartless, unreliable, entitled, greedy, manipulative, ignorant, overcritical, violent annoying, judgmental, irresponsible, vengeful, passive-aggressive, sexist, snobbish, jealous, phobic, bigoted, materialistic, condescending, sadistic, spiteful and the list goes on, almost without end.

They have discovered weapons that could destroy all life on their planet. And they have, in fact,  used these weapons on each other, in limited form. They are on the cusp of leaving their planet, but; so far the individual greed of some of their leaders has held back their expansion into space.

This is why the Council of Sentients is debating whether or not to take action against this deadly species known as the Gombolsens Virus.

Now, to be entirely honest, it must be said that not all of the creatures, who call themselves human, present these traits. A large portion of the species are not as described. Many are honest, caring, helpful, healing, empathetic, creative, genuine and reliable, trustworthy, and always the same person.

Many, maybe up to as many as 45%, it is estimated are exactly the kind of sentient that we are. It is hoped that natural selection and education will help these creatures develop into good, caring and loving sentients as are most of use.

The debate before the Council now revolves around the thoughts of preemptive strike to protect the rest of the galaxy from this virus or to wait and see and hope for the best.

Preemptive strike seems to be the favored option at this time. Some Planetary Scientists are advocating semi-sterilization of the planet, using nanites specifically created only to remove the the hateful and destructive elements rather that complete destruction of the virus, em, species.

"They are extremely creative," says Dr. Betrsen Ganxend of the University of First Arm." These people are capable of great and wondrous things and would be a wonderful addition to the arts and sciences of the First Arm."

So, we leave you with these questions to ponder...

Are we so morally superior that we would destroy another sentient civilization, even if we are discussing only partially destroying them?

Are we so afraid of a virus-like species that we could not allow them to continue to evolve?

Could this virus-like species be encouraged through help to improve themselves. And what kind of help?
