Then they took him with them and began to speak to him in order to find out whether he would talk, but it did not seem that he would. He uttered not a word, until at length the mother said to the two women, “Threaten me and say that I will be burned because of my son, and I will hold him in my arms and you will hear whether he is willing to speak.”

Then his mother took him, for she yearned for him to speak so that the women could hear him, and she began to weep and cry out. The women said, “It will be a great shame for you who are so beautiful to be burned because of this creature; it would have been better if he had not been born.”

And he answered, “You are lying. My mother has made you say this.”
