- Description: The Bruce brothers came to the Ayers’ door and pretended to have car trouble, saying they needed jumper cables. After he was unable to find any in his garage, he invited them inside to keep warm while he called his son. However, before he could make the call, Andrews and Moore burst in armed with guns and ordered Helen to hand over her purse and Richard to hand over his wallet, before they were ordered into their bedroom. They were made to lie on the bed, before they were each shot, with the shot into Richard’s back paralyzing him from the waist down. Right before they left, the group went back into the bedroom and shot Richard in the shoulder, before shooting Helen in the back of the head. Richard lay on the floor for hours staring at his wife’s dead body before his son came home and called for help. The got away with less than $10 and some cheap jewelry.
