The Aetherium Shards: My attempt at making the Infinity Gauntlet Mod Skyrim Lore

Long before the Aedra and Daedra, when aetherius was but yet still a void with nothing within, a great explosion rocked the void, some say this was the first god coming into being, others say it was the concept of creation springing to life, all that is truly known is that with this explosion, six shards from the center scattered across all of aetherius. Each one of these shards held unique power over the fundamental aspects of the universe and each one was a powerful artifact in it's own right, they also seemed to be sentient to a degree and as the gods rose to prominence and life began to bloom across a myriad worlds, the true power of these shards came to light. With the prospect of power came those that sought to wield that power for their own, both divine and mortal alike.

So began the Forgotten Great War of the Heavens, Daedra and Aedra alike fought alongside their mortal followers for the power the shards held. Reality, Space, Time, Soul, Power, and Mind, these shards attracted even the most righteous and incorruptible of dieties and mortals, for who could resist the power they held? As the war seemed without end and the shards changed hands again and again, a single warrior rose from the wartorn lands that had once been his home. With cunning and skill unchecked he gathered the shards one by one until he held them all. Until that moment no one being had held the power of all 6 in their hands and as countless armies converged to take the shards from him, he unleashed their powers all at once.

A great flash overtook both him and the countless armies in an event that would later be known as the great shattering. The universe itself broke and power roiled and coiled across the land and those who were the closest to the flash were wiped out in an instant, their very essence snuffed out from reality. Many Gods and Mortals lost their lives that day and the shards themselves seemed to be destroyed in the flash alongside the warrior. The survivors that remained formed a pact and slowly began to rebuild what had been lost, but as time went on the shards began to reform.

Fearing that their power would be misused once again a coalition of aedra and daedra formed to hide the stones, they wound their powers together to both hide and wipe the memory of what the shards were from both the divines and mortals alike and soon the shards and the events of the war became something that nobody remembered. Unfortunately, even the power of the gods must someday wane and years later the shards were discovered once more, each one found by different civilizations and groups over the years and transformed into a myriad of different forms. The only thing protecting them at this point being the powers of Nocturnal that kept people from realizing the shards were more than just strangely powerful relics.

The Reality Shard was found by the dwemer artisan Mzark and used to fashion their most powerful artifacts and sealed within a lantern, lost when the dwemer themselves vanished. The Mind Shard was eventually forged into a staff by the Dragon Priests and given to the young priest Miraak who later used it's power to create the shout that would lead him to rebel against his masters, the staff itself is still said to be within his possession. The Power Shard, also found by the Dragon Priests, was lost in the war against the dragons and sealed within a place unreachable by normal men through the power of the elder scrolls. The Soul Shard found it's way into the hands of the Ideal Masters who formed a deal with a powerful necromancer who gave up his very soul to wield it's power but was shafted and forced to act as it's guardian in the soul cairn. The Space Shard was forged into a great cube by the snow elves that allowed them to quickly move their forces at a moment's notice, aiding them greatly in their war against the ancient nords. However with the fall of the Snow Elves and their degeneration into the falmer, this too was lost. Finally, the Time Shard, this was found by the ancient psijic order who forged it into an amulet that would later become known as The Eye of Galerion, a symbolic relic held by the leader of the Psijic Order.

So the shards to this day remain separated, kept apart by ancient magics that are beginning to slowly wane and as the magics wane their existence becomes more and more known by the day. The Psijic Order in recent years learned of the other shards and vowed to protect them in the case that someone tried to gather them with the Psijic Supreme vowing to take that duty on personally. Still dark forces lurk in wait, seeking to gather all the shards and use their powers once more.
