  1. HEEEEEEELLOOOO, LADIES AAAAND GENTLEMEN, AND WELCOME, TO ANOTHER EDITION OF "TOURISTIC SURVIVAL GUIDE" (Note: For those of you who do NOT recall, there was the "Hole Touristic Survival Guide" in the third update.). This time we are looking at...oh...what's this... Festung, a city, that is supposedly located so far and so deep into the eastern mountains, nobody ever bothered finding it. Recently however, it has been located, and people are heading in, for various reasons. Mostly their own personal greed.
  2.
  3. The city itself is...pretty nicely built. There are a slew of sections, a the city itself splits more or less in a circular fashion so one can access most of these sections from the very center. however, some of them, have a wider entrance point than most. Some of these on their own turn, have these wider entrances locked up, or walled. Nonetheless, most entrants pass by the "Knight Protector's" Bridge, the entrance to the city. At the other side of it, lay a square, guarded by the statute of a large knight. Nobody knows who that guy was or why he is there, but at his feet does lay a bit of extra info.
  4.
  5. One'd best read it. It details how a single, ancient race was once faced with a great calamity. Some believe them to have been remnants of the humans who refused to leave the mainland long ago. It is believed both their inventions and technology, is connected with the ancient remains, found on some Green Isles, on the eastern archipelago. This claim is supported by some revelations further down this guide. The idea is that the race was split on a big decision. How to survive the crisis. One side, opted for adaption and alteration of themselves.
  6.
  7. And it is believed they became golems, of some sort. Or rather, that the golems were originally them, altered into a golem-y form, and inventing the means to make more golems. The other part of the race had a plan of making these mechanical servants that would built them shelters and help them against the disaster. Automatons. Turns out however, one of their creators really did not like his invention be used for cheap labor. So he had them rebel, kill the rest of his own kin, and form their own nation. It stood to little surprise nonetheless, that the golems and automatons, soon became very close allies.
  8.
  9. Something happened... and they decided to built this City, Festung. It was their capital, and some sort of city state in a way. Since then, a few humans had lived in too, but they are now mixed well enough into the population.Hence, Fetung is a mash of human, golem and automaton, as well as half human and golem, if the type of golem permits it. Either way Now, that you have met the statute of the Knight Protector himself assuming you are ready to go down the main street.
  10.
  11. You can see some small houses, and a few inns, for people who just wanna catch a sight of this place. It is nice, you can buy a little food, resupply and then leave, on your way. However, if you are some hardcore fucker, you might well enough head right on, through the wall in front of you, and into the... Main Square. Which is the one we mentioned above, with all of the sections coming out of it. Once you get in here, you can see the first two sections to your immediate right and left. First of all, these two sections are needed for the wounded and those needing healing of some sort. To start things off, at the right.
  12.
  13. We have the inns section, Uptown as well as what seems to be some bizarre monastery, mixed in with cathedral architecture. It is also home to a nice, big library, where one might find books on society, history, geography, or even maps of the town, medicine, sorcery, biology, chemistry, alchemy, anatomy, mechanics, physics and even...some peculiar fields of zoology, as well as some pretty shady themes on the Silence. It is where, a group of selected scholars, lead by a very ancient Soulfire golem, that goes by her title, Torporess Dormina [Dormina being the actual name] tries to make use of an alleged mechanism, of falling into a long process of hibernation, and accessing parts of the Vast Dream, that have allegedly been put to use by men of ancient times.
  14.
  15. You may learn a lot about soulfire here, and the unique way the people of this town use it. The Torporess herself handles the stay of most newcomers, and is quick to remind them of the dangers of this place. On the left side, there is the "Hospital Road" although it serves to cleanse most afflictions of any sort. It is also a place you go to, if you wish to learn more about other means of using your own life force, then you have Dormina's sister, a...blood golem. Exsanguinatress Velchiara is at the head of this entire section of the city. She handles all sorts of problems, such as studying mutations in the creatures down there, helping with damage caused by fighting them as well as aiding in stopping different plagues of any sort, if they ever do occur.
  16.
  17. On another side of the place, we have the Executioner's Wing. It is located on the left, and it is one of the locked apart sections. This is because the executioners rule it with their iron fist. Their job is simple, act as a police force. The inside of their territory is permeated by fear and terror of their authority, and their often excessive brutality. Executioners also have a list of external enemies, they go to hunt on their own. At the far left end of the section, there lies a massive wall, that once had a gateway. Now, it is torn up, and a large building, resembling some sort of temple has been built there, which is in essence the executioners headquarter. Beyond it, is said to be a massive graveyard, where the corpses of their victims are stored, and furthermore, some sort of large court, where the unseen Inquisitor lays out their orders, and sentences the enemies. Nobody has ever made it past the temple and returned.
  18.
  19. Then, we have the Raider's Den. The Raiders are a group of skilled warriors and explorers, who daringly make it to the depths of Festung, to challenge the beasts lying down there, with hope of reaching the very end of it all, where the ultimate prize, escape from Festung lies. It is at the end of the famed "Mother's Alley" the last structure dug into the city, in the final, tenth layer of it all. Where they might face the original, greatest threats, and the source of the whole corruption.
  20.
  21. It is why this place is so dangerous. First of all, when the city was built, it did not taken into account the Silence rift that lied deep within the mountains. Once it was dug out, well, the influence spread. SO you are safe in the top layer...but at some point, you will need to take the stairs, and step down. Just a little...but that is enough, for something to come out and kill you. Deep down, the original leaders of the races, who disagreed on the forming of the city, and gave in to the corruption, dooming the city itself to become a nightmare of sorts still dwell. DO be careful, either way. That place is one only skilled Raiders ever visit.
  22.
  23. Further closer to the Raider's Den, is the Tinkerer's Alley, a small area, where the many engineers found in the town lie. Specifically named after a famous Tinkerer Ghamiz, who invented many weapons used by the Raiders to this day. It is still most closely related to them, by virtue of the Raiders needing those the most. It is said, guns exist here as well, but using only mana, or other...less proper resources to fire. Nonetheless, their prices can vary quite a bit, and some of them are, fairly ruthless merchants.
  24.
  25. Fisher's Quarters, named so after the small pathway that leads to a mountain lake, which strangely enough has untainted fish living in it, is another city section. Supposedly, they catch fish at some time of the year, and sell it to the citizens, and in essence, they are some of the best food providers all around. Beyond this, it is a pretty calm place if you wish to rest. In the end, there seems to be not much else going on in this small, little, unsuspecting area.
  26.
  27. The Layers. On the front of the city... going straight on, from the main road, one finds themselves in a labyrinth proper. It is filled with statutes that move, and ones that act as stationary guardians, which, is what leads credence to the above theory on how these people and the men in the isles had common ancestry. It is also believed that the executioners possess similar enchantments. The labyrinth safe routes are known by the Raiders, and it is mostly only them that go through this place.
  28.
  29. The depths of the layers themselves are filled with dangers of all sorts, and it is ill advised to go in there, on your own, or without a Raider's help. In the end, one can only really try to make it to the center of the maze, and then travel as deep down as they can. A stairway leads down, starting from a large pit on the floor. The layers are in total, ten, each more dangerous than the last. Some of the city's functions however, depend on the hunting of the corrupted beasts.
  30.
  31. Things to be found:
  32.
  33. Tinkerer's specials. Various weapons, or armaments that are provided by the tinkers. They come in the shape of normal weapons, altered and remade into various forms, more useful for...well, annihilating things I suppose. They can also provide few guns, which fire mana, corrupted blood...or even bullets made of specifically hard skinned beasts. Their armor too, incorporated elements from the many automatons left behind in the layers, or other similar equipment.
  34.
  35. Soulfire use. Soulfire use in this place is...different. Mainly in how, the Torporess has discovered a means of extracting it out of many things, mostly, the life force of the corrupted, or that of various enemies, such as Executioners. This does not make for a proper use, in the conventional way, but it can be used to enchant equipment instead. As a matter of fact, that is about its only use. Nonetheless, the speed and strength granted more than makes up for this limitation.
  36.
  37. Mana use. The Exsanguinatress did not make that name up, no...she makes use of drained life force from the beasts [mostly found in their blood] and turns it into mana. She herself, sustains her own being and power this way, and she propogates its use. In more recent times, there has been a new tactic, that involves forming a "golem" lacking in sentience, and using it as a minion. The forming of the golem, is done through mana extracted or turned from life force.
  38.
  39. Raider tech. Raiders have been using Tinkerer's equipment, together with their own magic to make some pretty impressive weaponry. Mixed in with the soulfire's application gotten from the Torporess and you get a unit that would have made it into the Order almost certainly, was it not for Festung's isolation and their mission being very particular, finding the exit, and making sure as many people as possible leave through.
  40.
  41. Executioner's armory. Executioners use armor that is big, threatening and very medieval looking, but one has to admire its qualities. Its power lies in the runic enchantments, which are really good at deflecting mana. Thus, whilst Executioners themselves have a hard time using magic, magic being used on them will only destroy the caster. They also have statue soldiers, following them at times.
  42.
  43. Automatons. Yes, that is right. The Tinkerer's Alley also houses some automatons, and they generally dwell the city too. There are even ones in Raiders, and even if a small group, they are still pretty relevant. Mainly in that corrupting Automatons can be pretty hard and all of that. Automatons are almost all of the time up to date with the newest gear that is being invented as well, usually making good use of it!
