  1. >Peacock’s never been good with a lot of stuff. Eating healthy. Paying attention. Handling situations in a manner that doesn’t involve wanton destruction and cartoonish violence.
  2. >And lovey-dovey stuff
  3. >She’s never been able to get that loving cheesy stuff down. Why give someone all of your chocolate? What’s the point of sending a bunch of weeds to someone? But, nothing’s to say she’s not willing to at least give it a go.
  4. >And that was why, even to her surprise, Squigly agreed to go out with her!
  5. >After all, did she really expect a high-class dame like her to agree to “Say, uh, you wanna go hit tha’ town together, doll-face?” with a “Of course, Peacock! That sounds splendid!”
  6. >To be fair, our toon-tween didn’t think she’d get this far, and so after a long discussion with her gang, with ideas ranging from taking her out to toss fireworks at Medici limos to even the idea of going to see the new Annie blockbuster.
  7. >Eventually, both Squigly and Peacock agree to hit the beach to beat the hot summer weather.
  8. >Ice cream, surf, fast food, rides, what could go wrong?
  9. >Peacock picks up Squigly in the Toon Wagon, speeding her through the streets like hell on wheels. Squigly is a bit nervous though, so Peacock slows down- and besides, Leviathan’s giving her that evil eye.
  10. >When they get to the beach, they find a little spot right down by the surf, where the gang sets up their private lounging spot- complete with a portable TV, a cooler of snacks and sodas, and two big comfortable loungers.
  11. >Peacock pulls her hat down to cover herself up, before popping it back up, revealing her classic summer wear- complete with sun-hat, summer dress, and sunglasses- one for each Argus eye.
  12. >As she turns around to talk to Squigly, saying about what they’re gonna do today, she stops in her tracks.
  13. “So, likes I was saying, we could hit up that lil’ burgah joint on the…”
  14. >What Squigly is wearing is quite…revealing.
  15. >Well, not as revealing as some of the things the crazy dames Peacock fights wears, but for Squigly, it’s quite a step-out.
  16. >She’s wearing a simple red, purple and white bikini, with a thin layer of sheer silver fabric tied around the bikini bottom layered with patterns of skulls. It really shows off her legs and hips! Just watching her fix and adjust the strings on it is enough to make Peacock blush
  17. “Do you like it, Peacock? Filia said that this style of swimwear is all the rage these days”
  18. “Uh..uh...yeah! It looks great on ya, Squigs! You look like a real Jessica Rabbit!”
  19. >Of course, Squigly has no idea who Jessica Rabbit is, and Peacock awkwardly explains it to her. Her face is all red and bashful, although once she sees Squigly give a warm smile and a thank you, Peacock feels so much better.
  20. >The two decide to go get some lunch together before they head in to the water- although Leviathan quickly reminds the duo of the age old adage of “not going swimming after you eat”. Normally Peacock would dismiss such claims with a puff of cigarette smoke to the face and a very crude insult, but being with Squigly, she just shrugs it off.
  21. >As they walk down the boardwalk, Tommy and Andy in front, several George Bombs and a Lonesome Lenny behind them, and Avery, Squigly, and Peacock in the middle, they receive some rather odd stares. Some wonder if this is a cosplay convention. Some wonder if this is some sort of art display. Others realize just yesterday they ate dinner with a fish-person and this ain’t the weirdest thing they’ve seen.
  22. >But, Peacock doesn’t mind the stares. What’s a bunch of mooks to her anyway? She’s actually enjoying a conversation with Squigly, talking to her about what she wants to do today, or what her plans are for the week. Just small talk.
  23. >When they finally arrive at the boardwalk burger joint, a classic looking one that looks like it was lifted right out of a 1920s sketchbook, everyone piles inside Peacock’s magic hat to give the boss and Squigly some privacy.
  24. >Squigly and Peacock sit at one those little stools they have outside to serve you, and look over the menus. For some odd reason, Peacock can’t stop hiding her face whenever Squigly looks at her, always hiding it behind the menu whenever she sees the undead dame smiling at her.
  25. >When the waitress comes over, Peacock feels relief from the awkwardness.
  26. >Peacock, always with health in mind, orders a Leliani Loaded burger- basically a burger topped with the work, grilled pineapple, covered in tropical spices and crab seasoning. With extra cheese, topped with bacon, and a side of curly fries. And an extra large chocolate milkshake.
  27. >Squigly orders the same, albeit instead of a chocolate shake, an ice cold cream soda to wash it down.
  28. “Huh, so you like burgers too, huh, Squigly? I always thought you dames, or, uh, fancy types liked I dunno, caviah or lobstah or something”
  29. “Oh, burgers were always a favorite treat of mine! Mother and Father, whenever we spent time at our summer house, used to get burgers all the time! It’s quite nostalgic to just be here too, especially with such a good friend like you!”
  30. >Upon that compliment, Peacock’s face goes all red, and she pulls down her hat, chuckling sheepishly- something the usually brass cartoon girl isn’t.
  31. >After a while of talking and joking around, their food finally comes.
  32. >But, just as Squigly is about to take the first sip of her cream soda, a particularly oiled man, dressed in only roller skates and a cheap speedo, whizzes by, and whacks into Squigly, causing her to drop the soda onto the ground.
  33. >Peacock, with the flicker of goodness in her heart, whispers something to a George Bomb in her hat, stealthily tossing him onto the ground to follow the roller blading man, before turning back to Squigly.
  34. “Here. Take a straw, ya can have some of my shake. I won’t finish all of it. ‘Sides, didn’t ya say ya like shakes?”
  35. >Squigly giggles and smiles sweetly, thanking Peacock for her kind offer before taking a slow sip of the rich, creamy chocolate shake.
  36. >Normally, just the idea of sharing her sweets would be enough to make Peacock vomit, but for Squigly…well, it’s different you know?
  37. >As the two eat their lunch and talk, sipping down the shake together, Peacock can’t help but notice the blush on Squigly’s cheeks as well, the way she hides it with a practiced flick of her blue hair to cover her cheek. Her red eye seems to meet Pea’s before sliding away shyly.
  38. >This called to mind the old scenes in those cheesy romance flicks that would come on before the Saturday morning cartoons- where the man and woman would share a milkshake in this little diner, staring lovingly into each other’s eyes…
  39. >It wasn’t like she WATCHED them or anything, it was just that there was nothing better on except stock reports or reading. Which wasn’t any option she would choose.
  40. >But, in that moment, the cheesiness seemed to melt away. Peacock felt kind of comfortable. Hearing Squigly talk as they ate, seeing her smile glimmer in the sunshine, how beautiful she seemed to look in that swimsuit, kicking her legs back and forth as her fingers tapped lazily on the counter.
  41. >Maybe there was something to this romance thing after all.
  42. >After a bit, Peacock and Squigly finish and begin to head off.
  43. “So, where do ya wanna go now, Squigly? Back to the beach, or hang out around the boardwalk?”
  44. “Well, as I stated…” comes the deep baritone of Leviathan’s voice from inside Squigly’s ear. “30 minutes should pass until we go back to the water. In m’lady’s state, a cramp could be quite disastrous for the two of you!”
  45. “Oh, Leviathan!” Squigly said, doing this adorable pout as she placed her hands on her hips. “You worry too much, such silly naysay!” But, her pout broke into a giggle as she reached to stroke her parasite’s head soothingly. “Although, I do want to do a bit of sightseeing around the boardwalk. Would you mind, Peacock?”
  46. “Sointenly!” Peacock breaks into a big, silver-toothed grin, extending an arm to Squigly’s.
  47. >Squigly giggles and smirks, giving a polite tease about how lady-like she was, before wrapping her arm diligently around Peacock’s, and the two strut off down the boardwalk.
  48. >As they walk, Peacock reaches into her hat, and pulls out a little sun umbrella, covering both her and Squigly in the shade.
  49. “My, my, Peacock…you know, you’re usually so…er…bold! I never thought I’d see this side of you!”
  50. “Well…ya gotta be nice for a classy dame…I mean, woman such as yerself, Squigs. Now, come on, stay close, and we’ll have a hell of a time!”
  51. >And so, the two girls walk arm in arm down the boardwalk, past the crowd overlooking the roller-skating man who had “just been blown to kingdom come” and into the crowd beyond, laughing and talking amidst the melodies of music and the roar of the ocean waves.
