LAST TIME ON VELOCITY NEON, you all met up with Chase and most of the rest of the old guard! You discussed what to do about Team R, but Chase felt bad about putting you on the spot, and some of the other members doubted you got the goods to handle this. So, the arcade owner, Manny, had a proposition; he's gonna need help with a Mission later today, and figures if you can handle it, you'll probably survive Team R. It involves the arcade, and someone he calls Sally. You got a couple hours to yourselves before you have to worry about it, though. Oh, and Chase helpfully hands you some new phones to replace the ones you yeeted into the lake/jail.

While you're waiting, Maggie invites Renee out to lunch to celebrate the story being such a big hit. Around half an hour after she heads out, Xiri alerts you to an incoming private mission! No one else can see it, and it looks like an SOS, sent out by Sebastian of Team L. It's not rated, though... There are no Bolts, just question marks. Xiri's no help either; her best guess is that the program can't calculate the difficulty for some reason. The navigation still works, thankfully, and leads you to the Brahman City Courthouse, which wasn't far off from Morgan and Cy. Renee, however, is quite a bit further away; it's gonna take her some time to arrive, not even counting shaking Maggie off.

You arrive at the courthouse to find the remains of broken robots littering the grounds, and Sebastian sprawled out in a hedge next to the icy pool. He's sporting a black eye, and ropey scratches and cuts spiral up his arms and neck. Flurries swirl through the air, obscuring the air. From what you can see through the snow, Sue is throwing hands with Shades 2.0 on the courthouse roof.

Cyprien:
"Ah...this looks all sorts of bad..." he glances over at Morgan. "I don't think we'll have time to wait for Renee...!" Cy hops the hedge and runs over to the beat up Sebastian.

Morgan:
"I know, I'm spooked." Morgan follows.

Morgan:
"Are you alright?"

Seb:
The sound of you crunching over the frosted ground causes Seb to snap around. He struggles to get up, masking his fear behind a harsh tone, "You back for more, you redheaded assh-- oh..." Relief washes over his face, "You actually came? Color me suprised...but, uh, thanks."

Cyprien:
"Of course..! Although I suppose it could've been some sort of complex trap..you did try and get us with the robots before but..ahaha, I guess we gave you the benefit of the doubt!" he replies with a cheery smile.

Seb:
"Uh, yeah... Appreciated." He looks around, "Where's Renee? ...whatever, doesn't matter! You gotta help us! That white-haired guy up there is nuts!"

Morgan:
"She's uh, somewhere. Anyways, sure thing, but what's his deal?"

Cyprien:
"Ah, I believe she had a lunch date with a friend.." He shifts his attention to the rooftop nearby, trying to see the culprit; "Are they a player..?"

Seb:
"A-a lunch d-- not the time... Yeah, I think so. They put out a challenge mission. Thought it'd be a team, but we show up and it's just him... Figure, easy points, right? Well, the first thing he does is grab Empyre and...I don't know what he did, but it's like she's in a coma! Won't wake up, or respond to anything."

Shady Guy:
Up on the rooftop, the shady guy is completely on the defensive, dodging around Sue's attacks. He's taking a few hits, but smiling. It's like he's not taking it seriously, or just trying to wear her down. He hasn't noticed you all yet, though...or he just doesn't care enough.

Morgan:
"Oh jeez, he means business."

Cyprien:
"I wonder if these are the guys we're looking for..." Cy look back to Sebastian, "Are you alright for us to leave you here? If this guy's as dangerous as you say, we need to stop him...!"

Morgan:
"How exactly do we stop him? Just brute forcing it?"

Seb:
"Yeah, and turns out? He wasn't alone, either. I tried to help her out, but some redheaded bastard ambushed me and tied me up. Looked kind of familiar, but I didn't get more than a glance. They just left...I thought you were them coming back or something."

Cyprien:
"...if we have to...doesn't exactly sound like he'll listen to reason, but we can give it a sho-...so there is a full team here?"

Seb:
"I don't think so. It was just those two, I think." He wobbles around, "I - I can still help out. But...we gotta be careful. This guy hasn't done anything weird since whatever he did to Empyre. No Soul Album shit, and that's concerning.":

Morgan:
"Oh gosh, I think we might be biting off more than we can chew."

Cyprien:
"Probably saving it for a trump card then..."

Cyprien:
"Ahaha, if this were just a mission, perhaps...but this is a call for help! And that cannot be refused...!"

Shady Guy:
As the two circle around each other, Shady Guy finally notices you, "Oh! Called for backup, huh? Really think numbers are going to--" He's cut off mid-boast by Sue's foot slamming into his face, knocking him to the ground.

Morgan:
"Oh shit, maybe we can take him."

Shady Guy:
He rolls over and jumps back to his feet, seemingly unfazed, "Gh... Deserved that." He jumps back from Sue, and calls over to you, "Hey, Team X, right? Don't you have better things to do than aid your enemies?"

Morgan:
"I'm just... gonna ignore him. Maybe he'll be more distracted. What's the easiest way to get up there?"

Cyprien:
"Probably through the building but...his partner will have the element of surprise if they're waiting for us in there...also...he knows who we are.."

Morgan:
"Everyone seems to."

Cyprien:
"That is fair..." He eyes up the building.
Cyprien: (( I'm gonna roll perception to see if I see any movement inside ))

You don't see any movement, but they could always be in an interior hallway or something. You never know.

"There might be a fire escape leading up to the roof..."

There are two other entrances - a large staircase that leads up to a 2nd floor door, and a ladder that goes to the roof

Morgan:
"Let's.. take the staircase?"

Seb:
"Go ahead! I'll stay down here - Like this, I'm better at a distance..."

Cyprien:
Cy nods, "You take the staircase, I'll take the ladder," he says aside to Morgan. "Would probably be better than approaching from the same angle."

Morgan:
"Alright. I can't believe we're trying this..."

Morgan:
Morgan scurries along.

Shady Guy:
"Teaming up on me, huh..." He chuckles, turning to Sue, "It may be the nostalgia talking, but I think I prefer it this way."

Morgan hurries up the stairs.

Instead of rushing headlong into potential danger, Cy sends a clone up the ladder before him!

Shady Guy:
The clone Snake Eaters the shit outta that ladder, and can hear the conversation up top pretty clearly. "X and Y, the strongest rivals, teaming up to take down the bad guy. But pardon me if it plays out a bit differently this time!"

Sous Shi:
He lunges for Sue, but she nimbly dodges out of the way, "Do you never shut up?! I don't even know you!"

Cyprien:
Cy sets up the ladder after his clone, keeping out of sight for the time being as the clone walks a bit further onto the rooftop.

Cyprien:
"You seem to know an awful lot about us..and yet we don't even know who you are...you...shady guy, you."
Thrice:
The door is...well, unlocked isn't the right word - the lock's been busted open by crawling vines, which have unfortunately snaked their way around the door, and now seal it shut. Morgan's gonna need to break in

Shady Guy:
"Well of course not. Our debut match was meant to be tomorrow, wasn't it? But I guess now, it'll be a grudge match."

Sous Shi:
Sue backs up, taking a breather from her constant jumping around, "Do you have any idea what he's talking about??"

Morgan:
"Uh... I don't suppose there are any tools around here. I guess I could just..."

Morgan:
Morgan tries to kick the door open.

That'd be the most direct route yeah

Morgan:

The clone puts a hand to its chin as if thinking, "A debut match, you say...? So you were expecting a confrontation..."
Thrice:
At the first kick, the vines flex, but hold firm; the second one causes some to snap, and the third attempt breaks them all, leaving the door wide open! A dark hallway, overgrown with vegetation, awaits you inside

Shady Guy:
"Yes, though on more favorable terms. But this is fine, too. Your loss here might put you in a better place for tomorrow."

Morgan:
"Alright... not sketchy at al..." Morgan heads in

Shady Guy:
He backs up, keeping his eyes on Sue, and grabs a broken arm off the destroyed robot, flinging it at Cy('s clone)!

Shady Guy:

Cyprien:
"Ahaha. We have no intention of losing anything today, unfortunately." The actual Cy glances around his location to make sure nobody's trying to sneak up on him. WIth his attention divided however, the clone takes the full force of the robot arm.
Cyprien: (( I was already typing that I was looking around when you threw it, so I figured I should be honest that my attention was not on him for a bit there. ))

Morgan sneaks on in, trudging over writhing vines and thick undergrowth. For a few feet, the only sound is the movement of vines, but as you pass the first door, its glass window shatters, and a vine shoots out for Morgan's neck!

Shady Guy:

The clone poofs away in a puff of blue smoke. "Ahhhh...I guess that'll speed up my ascent a bit..." The actual Cy climbs the rest of the ladder and hops up. "It is quite useful. Eyes and ears from a distance. You have my undivided attention now, however, well, almost." He turns his attention to Sous; "Are you quite alright, miss?"

The vine wraps around Morgan's neck, ripping him straight through the door and into the room beyond - one of the courtrooms. It, too, is overgrown with thorny vines and bushes, but it's not empty. A hooded figure stands near the other side of the room, and sighs when they see you. They speak in a soft voice, "It had to be you, huh...Can't convince you to leave, can I?"

Sous Shi:
"Oh, yeah, I'm okay! He's no joke, though... Are you up for something like this?"

Morgan:
"AHH- oh."

Morgan:
"Hello? Who are you?"

Mystery Perp:
Ignoring your question, the hooded figure makes a choking motion, all Darth Vader-like, "...sorry." The vine around Morgan's neck tightens, restricting his breathing! "Just...go to sleep until this blows over, okay?"

Shady Guy:
"Don't discount him. Given the people he's failed to die to, he might stand a chance against me like this."

Morgan:
"What?! Agh!" Morgan tries to pull the vine off his neck!

Morgan:
"What's wrong with you?"
Thrice:

Morgan rips the vines off from around his neck, surprising the hooded one, "Whoa... You guys are the real deal, huh?" They extend their arm, and a vine shoots out of it, going for Morgan's legs this time!

"You talk about walking the line as if you didn't issue a challenge to this team with the intention of hurting them..." He holds up his X-covered hand and clenches it into a fist before him, "I can only assume you've got an 'R' on yours to match?"

Shady Guy:
"Figured it out? But don't worry. I'm not the one who did that to your friends... directly. You can call me..." The shady guy sprouts wings from his back - ethereal, ornately patterened ones, reminiscent of a moth or butterfly's. "Krysalis." He whips off his shades, and locks eyes with Cy. For a second you think he's boutta Cyclops your ass, but then images begin to flow through your mind. Massive, pounding rivers, stormy oceans, and flooded streets. The no-longer-shady man nods, and then begins to change... "So that would mean this form might be best."

Mystery Perp:
"Sorry! But this is necessary! If you just..let me...tie you up!" They keep trying to wrangle Morgan, but he dodges the vines, "It won't hurt a bit! You'll be just fine!"

Morgan:
"What do you mean? That hurt a lot!"

Morgan:
Morgan jumps over the table and tries to uncloak the mysterious person.

Shady Guy:
The shady man is enveloped in a cocoon of light, which slowly erodes away. When it fades, he's no longer there. Instead, someone else stands in his place

Uh...Seb??:
He looks incredibly disappointed. "...Yeah, I don't like being a brat again. Let's get this over with quickly." The man's new appearance is confusing - you look down, but the real Seb is still down there, standing near the fountain in disbelief.

Cyprien:
"I really need to come up with a name..." He looks at the man in confusion, "Wait a minute...huh?"

Mystery Perp:
They hop back, attempting to get out of reach, "Whoa, no! I'm hideous! Trust me, you don't wanna see!"

Mystery Perp:
