Of course, convincing the beast to actually freely give blood might be a little difficult, but the benefits of having an actual dragon as an ally are too great, where the Colchis Dragon wouldn't have been very powerful as far as Dragons go, you can tell that this newly formed dragon is at the pinnacle of all Dragonkind, honestly, only Tiamat in her Dragon form would likely be able to defeat it... Perhaps Jörmungandr of Norse myth too, but that's more a Serpent than a Dragon anyway. You aren't sure on the specifics of the dragon's breath weapon, but from what you saw, there are very very few beings in existence that would be able to survive a direct hit from it.
