  1. 999 DS version summary:
  2. HUGE SPOILERS FOR 999: 9 HOURS, 9 PERSONS, 9 DOORS
  3.
  4. And here we have the reason why the DS version is superior. First of all, understand that in the DS original, the top and bottom screens always had the same backgrounds. The reason for this is because Akane, on the bottom screen, is copying the paths she takes Junpei take on the top screen and the two are always in the same locations. All the narration is Akane's commentary and thoughts, which appears exclusively on the bottom screen - or in the 'Novel Mode' in The Nonary Games. All the dialog, which is what you see in the 'Adventure Mode' here, is on the top screen, being what Junpei sees. Essentially, everything on the bottom screen/the narration is from Akane's view from 9 years ago, and everything on the top screen is what Junpei is doing and seeing in the present. Both Nonary Games are being viewed simultaneously when playing on the DS. This is true for the escape rooms too. On the DS, you control the escape rooms entirely using the bottom touch screen. You're playing the escape rooms AS AKANE, and copying what Junpei is doing to solve the puzzles, just like what all the children from 9 years ago are doing with the children in Building Q. The only exception? During the final puzzle, when Akane is escaping the incinerator, you're playing as Junpei so that Akane can copy your answers. To do this, you actually TURN THE DS UPSIDE DOWN, so that the touch screen that the player controls is on the top, which is Junpei's perspective.
